Did anyone watch Endeavour? What was the thing with the ring at the end?

OP posts:

Oh and the girl at the end who was the GD of the American couple-was she anyone that we "knew"?

DuchessofMalfi · 09/04/2014 18:32

Abigail Thaw was listed in the cast, but I'm confused as to who she played. Thought I'd recognise her, but I didn't. Who did she play, and whereabouts did she turn up in the episode? Is she one of the police? Is lovely that she's involved in the series.

diddl · 09/04/2014 18:38

She's the reporter.

DuchessofMalfi · 09/04/2014 20:19

Thanks :) That's cleared that one up then - can't believe I didn't spot her. Did see Colin Dexter though.

OhNoYouExpedidnt · 09/04/2014 20:20

So at the beginning who is the person playing the piano in the house whilst everyone is dead?

diddl · 09/04/2014 20:42

It's Charlotte.

I watched the beginning again & realised that it's a music box playing "Nocturne" & the piano player is just playing a couple of notes.

OhNoYouExpedidnt · 09/04/2014 21:26

Right. I will watch the next one properly and not cook at the same time!

Tigresswoods · 10/04/2014 06:39

I spotted Abigail Thaw in the titles too & had to look her up.

How brilliant is this series!!!

diddl · 10/04/2014 07:11

Abigail Thaw in Endeavour

Clawdy · 10/04/2014 09:36

Abigail Thaw has appeared in all the episodes of Endeavour,in the pilot episode she says to young Morse "Haven't we met before?" and when he says no,she smiles and says something like "Perhaps in another life..." Sad

Tigresswoods · 10/04/2014 12:50

Brilliant.

Lambstales · 11/04/2014 21:30

Yep, spotted Colin Dexter peering over some museum cases, very near the start.

BTW they are filming 'Testament of youth' in Oxford ATM. I think one of the lead actors is causing quite a stir with a section of undergrads that are doing finals!

I'll find out in a min...

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 12/04/2014 23:15

Gosh that was more of a thriller than I was expecting!

diddl · 13/04/2014 12:18

Who mentione "Cabin Pressure"?

I've found it online-it's addictive!

LeBearPolar · 13/04/2014 12:59

Cabin Pressure is amazing. I bought the CDs because Benedict Cumberbatch plays one of the characters on a whim without ever having heard an episode and listened to them in the car while commuting. Well, the other road-users must have thought I'd lost my mind, driving along with tears of laughter rolling down my cheeks.

ladymalfoy · 13/04/2014 13:19

Morse's chum is a mason and ends up as his boss in the 'grown up' Morse.
It's also why he gives Morse so much leeway in investigations.
It's the little details like how he buttons his jacket in Young Morse and it's the same in Grown up Morse.
Abigail Thaw does look like her Dad though. It must be quite poignant calling another actor Morse.
Roger Allum is the way Guinness would sound. Or melted chocolate.

mrswimpeydimple · 13/04/2014 22:18

At least it didn't creep me out like last weeks episode. And no Freemasons references at the end either.

Loving some of the period details In the scenery too. The bed Morse and the nurse were trying out in the shop had exactly the same headboard and bedside table all-in-one as my parents had. And being from Oxford I remember the old Debenhams department store being similar inside to the one in this episode in the 70s. Although the facade wasn't any I recognised.

Lambstales · 14/04/2014 18:53

Colin Dexter was on the bus this time.

I thought the DI Thursday thread was quite sad but was glad that he did the 'right thing'.

Tigresswoods · 14/04/2014 21:39

And no Abigail Thaw this week. Boo.
Loving the neighbour nurse romance. Very cute.

ladymalfoy · 14/04/2014 21:45

Yeah but a reporter is a victim in next weeks episode. Hoping it's not the Abigail.

Lambstales · 14/04/2014 22:15

Wasn't Morse scarred for life by a broken romance? Could it be this nurse?

Because I knew that from Morse, I thought she would be murdered when the backwards 4 was on the wall.

diddl · 15/04/2014 06:49

I thought that that was Susan Fallon in "Dead on Time"

They were engaged & she left him for someone else.

GoodnessIsThatTheTime · 15/04/2014 09:05

I missed how the 4 got on the wall. (I was tiredand found the episode hardto follow).
Was the mark left by an appliance or had someone broken in. The infinity was an8 on purpose to set up warehouse guy wasn't it?

Was the guy caught prong things in pockets and charging not to tell police set up as well?

I enjoyed it, but lost the trail...

diddl · 15/04/2014 09:09

The 4 was from a delivery box I think, as was the 8.

The "security guy" was on the fiddle.

EssexGurl · 15/04/2014 10:20

DD loves Sarah and Duck on CBeebies. Roger Allam narrates that. I don't think I listen to the words, just his voice. I finfpd that a bit with Endeavour, I tune out of the story and just listen to him.

Shaun Evans who plays Morse was on This Morning recently. Really strong Scouse accent - very disconcerting!

DH and I love it.
