Anyone watching? I think it's good so far!

OP posts:
LittleBearPad · 27/04/2014 23:28

Me too. Nasty sister quale or whatever her name is. Nasty husband too. I thought her ring was a fake wedding ring too. Dishy doctor too!

WaitMonkey · 28/04/2014 09:17

That sister is so horrible and mean. Angry

Ellenora5 · 28/04/2014 09:39

I thought it was a bit boring last night, Suranne Jones pained look is giving me a pain, wonder what will happen with nasty nurse

ohdobuckup · 28/04/2014 13:16

hmmm...trouble is if you know anything about military behaviour, uniforms, attitudes within World War One military hierarchy, how to march and other stuff not related to emotional story lines, then this a howling at the telly experience. They have got so much wrong with the details that for me and few others it detracts from the storylines...must get out more.com

NigellasGuest · 28/04/2014 19:51

I still want to know what evil nurse did with the cake in the first episode. I think we should be told!

toastedteacake · 28/04/2014 23:09

She ate it.

ItStillLooksLikeRainDear · 28/04/2014 23:30

I was looking forward to watching it but turned it off after half an hour. Disappointed.

TitchyCooPark · 29/04/2014 00:02

I loved the first episode, however, I have just watched the fourth episode of CF. Now, I do like this programme, but somehow it is lacking and I can't quite put my finger on what it is lacking.

It is almost as if so much effort has gone into costumes and the settings that the actual content but script is just dire and it just not enough is happening. There is no depth to any of it and too many back stories. I must confess, I am not a fan of long lingering camera angles. I like a good script and actors and actresses that actually speak. There is far too much "looks left, looks right and looks straight ahead" for my liking. Or that other all time acting classic, "smelling the fart"...

Am I the only who thinks that if it is a WW1-based programme if you are not going to show battles and the sheer horror of what went on? I suppose it could have been for budget reasons, but tonight I found myself thinking this is all a bit "Tenko" production-wise.

I think it only has another two episodes to run, which means there is going to be the usual penultimate episode of clearing up some storylines, creating a couple of new ones and leaving you completely on the edge. Just before the final episode which attempts to clear everything up in the final twenty minutes.

I will continue to watch but my overall verdict is what a shame, it had so much potential...

Gen35 · 29/04/2014 09:31

Oh I really like it, find the situation of kitty is touching, hard to believe her mother cut her off when she was married to such a brute. I'm hoping the nasty sister gets her comeuppance but I suspect not for a while...

GypsyFloss · 29/04/2014 22:36

I think her mother might have cut her off because Kitty had an affair and perhaps was deemed to have brought shame upon the family.

Gen35 · 30/04/2014 10:37

Dreadful, isn't it? I'm hoping kitty and the dashing Scottish surgeon live happily ever after but I suspect it'll be string out for several seasons!

GypsyFloss · 30/04/2014 17:06

The Scottish doc is very lovely indeed.

3littlefrogs · 30/04/2014 17:45

I was going to say I wish they would repeat Testament of youth. It was brilliant.

Gen35 · 01/05/2014 13:17

Was it called something else? When I google other than the book I find only the upcoming 2015 adaptation if testament of youth? Sounds like something I'd love

diddl · 01/05/2014 13:21

Testament of Youth 1997

diddl · 01/05/2014 13:24

1979 not 19971Blush

Gen35 · 01/05/2014 13:42

Ah thanks!! Looming forward to it

diddl · 01/05/2014 14:19

OMG-just found it on youtube!

Kettles on & that's my afternoon sorted!

diddl · 01/05/2014 14:21
Gen35 · 01/05/2014 14:23

Excellent! My evening lined up too!

Bunbaker · 04/05/2014 22:54

I thought tonight's episode was excellent.

nennypops · 05/05/2014 01:24

I dunno, I'm getting a bit tired of the fact that they've virtually all got guilty secrets which they're not very good at keeping secret, and half the cast seem to be blackmailing the other half.

Ellenora5 · 05/05/2014 02:58

Same here nennypops, it's very boring, that concert thing was pointless, as for the major losing his eyesight, it was so obvious from the beginning what was happening, if they make a second series I won't be watching, it's annoying because it could have been so much better, too many long pauses and looking into the distance with pained expressions

diddl · 07/05/2014 20:44

Well that was crap!

Were letters not censored?

Could a letter in English really have got to him?

And him just turn up??!!

Assume he's a deserter.

toastedteacake · 08/05/2014 09:23

diddl - He escaped from a PoW camp. That's why he's behind enemy lines.
