I'm sure after the Christmas special they said a new series would be starting in the New Year. So where is it?? [impatient]

Next week's looks dramatic.

The new nun's annoying me, she seems a bit one dimensional (permanently chirpy) so hopefully we'll find out a bit more about her.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 03/02/2014 14:58

I really don't like the way they are portraying Sister Bernadette since she got married. I used to love watching those two, but now it seems very forced and false.

EmilyAlice · 05/02/2014 13:55

Can anyone give me a quick update on Sundays's episode? The recording failed (rain?) and we can't do catch-up or iplayer here.
I saw the first bit of the prison stuff, though none of them had had their baby, Mrs ex-nun Doctor thought she might or might not be pregnant, Mrs Varicose Veins had to go to hospital. Then it went all digitised and failed.
Pretty please? Smile

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/02/2014 14:05

Mrs Ex-nun wasn't pregnant and had an exploratory operation where they found some scarring from her TB. Not sure whether that means it'll be harder or impossible to conceive. Got a bit confused but a fair bit of weeping and reassuring pats on the shoulder ensued.

Stacey Slater had her baby and admitted she lied about having a fiancé. She was about to have her baby taken away but Sr Jenny Agutter helped her and found her a job and home so she kept the baby.

Jenny-Midwife freaked out when boyfriend said he loved her but she had a think about it and got over it and he took her to the play that MintyfromEastenders cocked up.

Think that was most of it... :)

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/02/2014 14:05

And Mrs Varicose-Veins' husband turned out to be lovely, not at all scary and didn't mind what his wife looked like.

EmilyAlice · 05/02/2014 14:12

Thank you GwendolineMary. Jolly reliable chaps at Mallory Towers. Grin

GwendolineMaryLacey · 05/02/2014 14:27

:o

EmilyAlice · 05/02/2014 14:34

I promise I will never let any beastly girls push you in the swimming pool.
(Might be in danger of getting washed away today?)

2old2beamum · 05/02/2014 17:48

I am old hence my name. I did my paediatric training at the Children's Hospital in 1962 and as part of our training 2 of us spent some time with the nuns in Poplar, it was brilliant riding round on our bikes trying to keep up with the nuns with their habits flying out behind them.

As a point of interest I am fairly sure Nonnatus House was fictitious, I am sure the nuns were based at the Mile End Hospital.

It is so true to life I can almost smell the East End when I watch it

How interesting 2old maybe we need you for a mid thread web chat!

Mumzy · 05/02/2014 20:03

This is allegedly Nonatus House and very near All saints church parish hall (now a medical centre) where the antenatal clinics took place and Chummy got married. Nonatus house has since been converted into flats. The is also a guided Call the Midwife walk available through one of the London tour companies.
Nonatus House

Mumzy · 05/02/2014 20:08

Saints Church, Poplar

JugglingFromHereToThere · 05/02/2014 20:35

Ooh, on Mumzy's link "Nonatus House" in post above there is also a video interview (if you scroll down slightly) with the writer of the books, Jennifer Worth.
Fantastic viewing for any fan of the series.
Thanks Mumzy Thanks

Quite fancy going on that guided walk you mention too M - especially as I worked in the East End too, but not until the early 90s - and then as a teacher.

Great to hear your story too 2old - bet you're loving the series Smile

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/02/2014 20:37

In the books she says she has made up the name Nonatus House, but that it was real, with a different name.

Mumzy · 05/02/2014 23:33

Call the Midwife walking tour

Ellenora5 · 06/02/2014 10:06

Has Chummy forgotten the name of her son, she never calls him by his name it's always "young sir" or "little sir" it's getting on my nerves.

Where did the other nurse go, the quiet one who didn't have a lot to say and was a bit nervy.

Pixel · 06/02/2014 15:08

Didn't she go off with the missionary bloke who couldn't stop talking?

Ellenora5 · 06/02/2014 22:29

Oh she could have done Pixel, thanks for that Smile

MarthasHarbour · 07/02/2014 22:31

Actually Chummy is annoying me a little in this series - i loved Miranda Hart in the first and second series but she now seems to be trying to enunciate too much IYKWIM

2old you jolly well must stay on this thread!! Loving oodles web chat idea Grin
