Good point, Punk

WorrySighWorrySigh · 12/01/2014 22:51

Loved it but am I the only one to think the house was just a little bit reminiscent of Telly Tubby Land?

LondonMother · 12/01/2014 22:52

His eyes are extraordinary - do they always look like that or is he wearing contact lenses?

BettyMacdonald · 12/01/2014 22:53

Well I loved it AND I know the mother of the drug-addled Isaac in RL!! . Can't wait until the next series. Really pleased that Mary's nice (for a psychopathic killer) as I do like her character Grin

Geckos48 · 12/01/2014 22:54

When I first watched it, I thought 'what is all the fuss about BC'

Now I fancy him like Rotten...

And so does DH!

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 12/01/2014 22:55

His eyes are amazing. I loved that his (real life) parents were in it as well.

Mark Gatiss is so so different on the BBC Four thing - I can hardly believe it.

GatoradeMeBitch · 12/01/2014 22:57

"That's why they wouldn't tell us how Sherlock did it. They are linked."

There is twitter chat about that second 'how he faked his death' scenario. And they are still both alive...

CalamityKate · 12/01/2014 22:58

I loved it!

When John delivered the "I forgive you" speech to Mary, DS2 (10) and I sat holding hands and sniffling Grin

BookroomRed · 12/01/2014 23:04

I knew Mary's platinum hair wasn't channelling that of Ros from Spooks for nothing! I had worked out she was a spy/former spy during last week's episode, and that she was almost certainly going to Turn Evil, but actually it's quite nice she's showing a taste for the quiet life and having baby Sherlockia/ Sherlina/ Sherley. Though one can't help wondering how 'coincidental' her meeting John was, if she constructed the friendship with Janine to further her own ends in murdering Magnusson....? I mean, John is clearly quite famous in his own right, even if living a quiet GP lifestyle after Sherlock's 'death'...

Am I the only one who quite fancies Mycroft?

Also, no Irish women of that generation are called Janine. None.

GypsyFloss · 12/01/2014 23:13

Ohh Moriarty as the third brother. And not dead. Now there's a thought . I do like a bit of posh Southside villain on a Sunday.

I have to admit to spending most of the night a bit confused but am hoping that a second viewing tomorrow might clarify that.

LittleBearPad · 12/01/2014 23:14

It's interesting hearing about the actual books being referenced in it. But I don't think you need to read the books to get this show. It's just a bonus for those who have read them.

I loved it.

HazeltheMcWitch · 12/01/2014 23:14

OOf, that was confusing. I never actually watch a programme 100%, I always waft about doing other things. That might be why I don't have that much certainty as to what happened / how / why.

But.... if Mary was a top assassin/sp, did Mycroft know? And if her powers of deduction were so good, how did she not twig that she was pregnant?

And... why did Mycroft allow Sherlock to be sent to E. Europe on mission-from-which-he-would-not-return? Why could he not be imprisoned? Actually - who suggested Mission as an alternative - was that Mycroft? If so, it does not really fit with their rapprochement.

harryhausen · 12/01/2014 23:17

Loved it.

You do have to be a real Conan Doyle nerd to get all the little interwoven references in the stories. I've spotted a few but never them all.

Conan Doyle often used to be a bit dubious at times in tying up all his deductions. I think Moffat and Gatiss do it really well.

Loved the character development. It's series 3. You have to develop characters or you'll loose your audience and get accused of resting on your laurels.

So an image of Moriaty is back. Is it him, or someone messing with heads? I'm thinking the later.

I even love the fact it's over already. 90mins each people. Little feature films.

VikingLady · 12/01/2014 23:18

Maybe Mycroft didn't have a choice. Sherlock just murdered someone in front of witnesses. Although I'd have thought Mycroft could make it all go away if he really wanted to, being the government.

Confused now!

HazeltheMcWitch · 12/01/2014 23:21

I think that Mycroft could have made it all go away.
There was a chopper and loads of armed police; they weren't there to check for stolen bikes, were they ?

AndiMac · 12/01/2014 23:28

Why the hell didn't Mary just shoot Magnusson when she had the chance? Don't waste time and bullets on Sherlock, just stick to your plan.

harryhausen · 12/01/2014 23:32

Because when Sherlock walked in, she had a witness. She had to shoot Sherlock (but not fatally) and she couldn't shoot Magnesson then as Watson would have been under suspicion.

AndiMac · 12/01/2014 23:41

Then she could have knocked him out beforehand if she was that concerned, Watson wouldn't have then implicated. Anyway, Sherlock obviously didn't mind if Magnusson died, as proven by the end, he was hardly a messy end to tie up.

AndiMac · 12/01/2014 23:50

And I don't see why Watson would have been implicated. Sherlock would have said someone else did it, and that would cleared Watson.

Nerfmother · 12/01/2014 23:50

Actually I was confused by did she / didn't she mean to kill him. She nearly succeeded - all that waffle with mycroft, the gun, the need to fall back or forwards would be completely unnecessary if she'd not tried to kill him.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 13/01/2014 00:03

No, she didn't mean to kill him, but obviously Sherlock didn't know that at the time, he just knew he'd been shot. Hence the analysis of which way to fall, gun type etc. He was just calculating his best chance at surviving it.

winterkills · 13/01/2014 00:07

So 'Mary' is some kind of crack assasin but she doesn't even wear a mask when she goes to execute someone! If she'd been wearing a mask she could have just shot CAM dead, wounded sherlock in the leg or karate chopped him and got out of there no prob.

winterkills · 13/01/2014 00:12

Maybe she went for the Standard Assassin outfit - black trousers, jumper, beanie hat etc If she'd gone for the Deluxe it would have included a mask. I suppose the wedding must have set her back a bit but clearly it doesn't pay to skimp on essentials

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 13/01/2014 00:12

Didn't she need CAM to think she actually wanted/was willing to kill Sherlock? I think it was explained - I'll have to watch it again tomorrow - the children kept coming down and disturbing it - blooming children Hmm

AndiMac · 13/01/2014 00:17

She didn't need him to think anything if she shot him dead.
