I love David Morrissey. My god there's so much on telly tonight I'm beside myself!

I totally lust over really admire David Morrissey as an actor, but didn't bother to watch this after the universal pasting it got from the critics who'd previewed. Shame really. God, how I loved Blackpool!

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 07/01/2014 00:13

it was dull and I am one of dn biggest fans usually.

david m I think is ageing v badly - awful dyed hair - greying beard and odd dental work going on.i really couldn't see them as a couple.

Lighthousekeeping · 07/01/2014 00:17

Remember Between the Lines? It was brilliant.

Just watched it, thought there was a bit of tension being built. And SS was rather easy-on-the-eye in that dress.
When I used to get a commuter train there was a little gaggle of us who talked a lot to each other. Romances could have blossomed. But we live int' north. Less likely darn sarf? I thought there was enough shared frustrations with life for them to form an attachment. Once that happens looks/age get relegated, don't they?

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 07/01/2014 00:38

my friend commutes every day darn sarf - apparently they all fall asleep on each other but I suppose that wouldn't make a good tv show

LIZS · 07/01/2014 07:59

thought the initial sequences were fun but quickly lost credibility. Plot sooo predictable and could be wrapped up in one episode. Waste of OC.

southeastastra · 07/01/2014 08:01

it easy enough and enjoyable to watch seems based on the film falling in love with robert de niro and meryl streep

love david morrissey though and would watch him paint a wall. love his beard in this. olivia colemen gets on my nerves though but even she admitted she is everwhere atm Grin

Lagoonablue · 07/01/2014 08:15

Didn't like it. Thought DM a bit creepy tbh and his beard not a good look. Didn't ring true at all. Will watch part 2 though!

PaulMcGannsMistress · 07/01/2014 08:38

How about Sheridan Smith gets pregnant. That'd be one hell of a mess. Woke up this morning quite looking forward to seeing how it all pans out.

LIZS · 07/01/2014 08:41

yes I did wonder about that scenario . After all , without prior intent what precautions would they take as she and her fiancé had been ttc

penguinplease · 07/01/2014 09:29

I enjoyed the program but what is really bothering me is where were they commuting from? the street they walked down a few times - can anyone tell me where that is?

LottieJenkins · 07/01/2014 09:34

The IMDB page says its was filmed in Thames Ditton!

penguinplease · 07/01/2014 09:37

Ah thank you Lottiejenkins, I did google it but didn't find an answer. I can stop trying to work it out and obsessing now.

wintera · 07/01/2014 11:30

I thought it was good, some little parts of life were nicely observed. Will definitely be watching part two tonight.

They were commuting from Woking to Waterloo. There's always loads of trains to Woking, you don't have to wait for hours even late in the evening. And it only takes 25 mins, hardly time to get hammered and dance in first class... Sorry, I live there so found it all very annoying factually! Also a bit close to home as DH does that commute every day!

I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to tonight.

SwedishEdith · 07/01/2014 12:32

I knew it'd be rubbish as it's written by David One Day Nicholls but, I actually really enjoyed it. No-thinking tv.

Do couples really routinely a) brush their teeth together in the morning and b) chat whilst doing it?

Pan · 07/01/2014 13:26

The transport practices and train times aren't really the important things here, are they? IF it was a doc. about SE trains then maybe.
Spending time picking at detail rather misses th epoint doesn't it?

It's a TV drama that's only half way through. According to the omnipresent Ms Colman she has much more of a profile in the second half.

ViviPru · 07/01/2014 13:46

I like the way it's not too cut-and-dried. OC's character isn't quite dowdy enough to be a cliche, she's interested, supportive and yet you can see the strains in the marriage. It would have been a bit better maybe if Sean McG's character was a bit more likeable...

I'm just hoping they don't end up doowin it, instead have a bit of a life epiphany, and go their separate ways empowered to make changes for the better independently of one another, perhaps a statement on how this kind of experience isn't always destined for disaster...

SnakeyMcBadass · 07/01/2014 13:52

I thought the main characters had a lot of chemistry. It was uncomfortable viewing watching them slip from friendship into something more. I was hoping he'd remember he was married to the most awesome OC, and slap himself then go home. SS is clearly not going to marry 'You weren't here to make tea so I ate 4 energy bars and now I'm shaking' bloke.

Pan · 07/01/2014 14:04

yes, loved the energy bar line. All you can do really is laugh at him, or advise that with all of that energy in him he could have made it down the road for a kebab.

UntamedShrew · 07/01/2014 14:12

I read an interview with David Nicholls and he said he has never commuted - I could have guessed that, watching it! Thought it was only OK, and I don't think it is nitpicking to say that it completely failed to accurately portray what the commute is like - every conversation would have been whispered and so awkward, with every other passenger listening in (bar the 2 sharing their table with their convenient headphones).
Really quite dull. Think I mis-sold it to DH as well as he asked at the end if he had missed the murder!

LondonNinja · 07/01/2014 14:12

The cobbled street they walk down is lovely Church Street in Twickenham. It has little gift shops, a super cupcake shop and restaurants mainly.

It is good in that you can just imagine how easy it is for some people to latch on to the newness of a relationship and just get caught up. He's obviously in MLC territory. It is very cliched but I guess that;s why MN has a MLC affair script, too.

Made me sad for Olivia but DM portrays his unself-awareness really well.

Will be watching tonight Smile
