Just rewatching Nigella's Christmas cookery programme. She really is lovely in it

She is charming.

Lovely recipes as well.

I remember reading an interview where Nigella was talking to Julie Burchill about Christmas, Julie had had lovely happy Christmases as a child so she didn't really give a monkeys, yet Nigella had a tense upbringing so as an adult wants all of Christmas to be perfect for her family.

Anyway in light of whAt has happened to her life this year watching the show is a bit bittersweet. I hope she has a happy time with her children this year.

Anyway I recommend the programme, and the Christmas book. It's NEARLY December after all!

I love Nigella too, she is beautiful and scrumptious and her books are gorgeous and I love her writing.

I have all her books except her summer one and her Christmas one, I guess because I love Feast so much and it has a section on Xmas in it I have never bothered getting the big Xmas book.

I made the Yule log last year and I think a bit of me died and went to heaven Smile

Her custard sponge birthday cake is DH's favourite cake and has the only buttercream DD will eat.

How nice to see a lovely thread on here Flowers

Dear Charles Saatchi

You have RUINED Christmas. Please go back to your diet of eggs and chilled journalist's souls and leave everyone else alone.

Thanks

I think she's extraordinarily beautiful and has a lovely figure.

SoldAtAuction · 26/11/2013 20:00

I have been inspired by this thread, and now have a Clementine cake in the oven! It smell gorgeous already!

Thisisaghostlyeuphemism · 26/11/2013 20:04

I look a bit like a plain Nigella with no talent.

I love her a lot.

LongStripedScarfWearer · 26/11/2013 20:13

We love her Christmas book too, use it loads every year and it never fails to inspire us DH.

"How to Eat" is my cooking Bible.

JohnnyBarthes · 26/11/2013 20:14

Nigella weaned my son and advised me on how to host a lunch or dinner gathering.

I was flat fucking broke and couldn't find the money for the electric bill let alone for a rib of beef or to have a bottle of Marsala in the cupboard for slooshing into risottos, but she taught me the principles.

I will always bloody love her.

spookyskeleton · 26/11/2013 20:15

The chocolate biscuit recipe in the Christmas book is amazing -totally delicious Smile

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/11/2013 20:16

I hate to admit it here, but the programme that really makes me feel Christmassy is Delia Smith's Christmas - even though it looks more dated every year. I hope you all still like me after this dreadful revelation!

gaggiagirl · 26/11/2013 20:27

Ooh I enjoy a bit of Delia!

I bet nigella has loads of friends who use mumsnet......please tell her we love her!

I bet she needs cheering up.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 26/11/2013 20:45

I caught the programme too am going to do her gammon in ginger beer....its lovely to see glam woman doing the cooking rather than nigel slater who looked like a tramp the other day.

NCISaddict · 26/11/2013 20:45

My Christmas pudding alternative is clementine cake, makes the house smell lovely on Christmas eve and those who don't like christmas pud generally love it.
Have done her lamb tagine with dates and beef in red wine too , people always ask me for the recipe.
Love Nigella and so pleased she has dumped that wank stain on the bed sheets of society in the wash where he belongs.

JohnnyBarthes · 26/11/2013 20:53

I WON'T HEAR A WORD SAID AGAINST NIGEL.

Gel and Gella are not mutually exclusive.

magnoliamom · 26/11/2013 21:00

Why aren't dvds available of all her series? Watching the Christmas episode of Nigella Bites is how I start the season, inspired by her festive cozy table surrounded by shelves and shelves of cookbooks. I show my family and friends I love them with food, too - which is why her books are so special, particularly at this time of year.

ElfontheShelfIsWATCHINGYOUTOO · 26/11/2013 21:07

If you saw him J he did look dishevelled. I am sorry but I think he should have made more effort on national TV.

I don't give a shit about her cocaine use, if it is true anyway.

Lots of people use cocaine recreationally anyway, it hasn't exactly affected her success has it? I loathe weed but don't judge people for taking coke.

I am going to tweet this thread. Sod it. She is admired for her successful career, which is over 10 years of publishing successful books and programmes.

Bollocks to the tabloids.

Don't let this harm her, Anthony Bourdain is a revered celebrity and he was a junkie and coke head for years. Don't vilify Nigella.

I would like a Nigella t-shirt shirt.

Whitershadeofpale · 27/11/2013 08:18

I love her too. I have to disagree with Sangria the chocolate Christmas cake is delicious, we have it every year. The gingerbread stuffing not so much ....

OhBabyLilyMunster · 27/11/2013 09:35

Im off to gaul haul out the christmas book. Everyone else is. Its TIME.

NewChoos · 27/11/2013 09:38

I think she is fantastic too and her Goddess book got me through some tense times.

NewChoos · 27/11/2013 09:39

I feel so sorry for her, she really is having a tough year. Chocolately unmumsnetty hugs to Nigella.
Good thread.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 27/11/2013 09:52

I will be getting out the Christmas book too. I know she did christmassy biscuits with her children, on one of the programmes, and I would like to find that recipe - I have had a go at making gingerbread stars - they tasted OK, but somehow not gingery enough, and didn't have quite the right texture. Mind you - the dogs didn't seem to care - they got into the kitchen, whilst I was out buying icing sugar, and ate all but 5 of them!

GetOrfOhSodOff · 27/11/2013 09:57

Team nigella thread!
