I'm still stupidly excited about the 'new' Troughton episodes, but just to add to the fun, Watch are showing some seriously classic episodes today from 2pm. Any else watching? And what are you looking forward to as we approach the anniversary episode and beyond?

OP posts:
LetZygonsbeZygons · 15/11/2013 18:42

don't forget a sneak peek on children in need tonight.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 18:59

Forget? It's been on the ruddy calendar for weeks !!!

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 19:20

someone's saying it's the pre-titles sequence. Not sure how i feel about that.

TheDoctrineOfWho · 15/11/2013 19:56

Now!'

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 20:01

Night of the Doctor has thoroughly ruined me, I thought that was a bit pants. I've noticed how much I am over Matt Smith as the Doctor and am quite looking forward to his departure.

bialystockandbloom · 15/11/2013 20:10

Beyond excited about all this!

Can anyone explain though, what's the Night of the Doctor? A mini-episode as well as the main Day of the Doctor episode next week? Will both be aired on BBC next Saturday? Confused

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 20:12

I like Matt Smith as the Doctor but I am so excited about Peter Capaldi that I keep wishing away Matt's last two performances, which makes me feel guilty and disloyal. And now I'm feeling a sense of sorrow/rage for the Lost McGann Years, too.

DH and I were saying the other day that McGann and Capaldi are the only two actors to play the Doctor for whom the moment they were announced we immediately thought "Yes. Oh, yes, he's exactly right. They couldn't really have cast anyone else, now I come to think about it..." (other actors have done very good jobs, but initial thoughts have been more "Oh, that's an interesting choice; I wonder where they'll go with that?" And then Eight was sadly curtailed and we've only had Big Finish to tantalise us with what might have been.

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 20:15

It's a mini-episode, bialystock, like the Pond Life mini-episodes that they aired online before the last series. Check it out here now!

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 20:17

A Capaldi/McGann story would do funny things to my nether regions and the substantial part of me that adores a good Who story well told and superbly acted. And no f*cking fezes.

bialystockandbloom · 15/11/2013 20:21

Thanks Pachachuti. But is it aired tonight on Children in Need or something? Or is that something different? And have I missed it? (the CIN bit I mean, if that's a different mini-episode to the Night of the Doctor!)

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 20:26

CiN just aired a minute long clip from Day of the Doctor. Night of the Doctor was a special just-for-tinterwebs minisode that was basically just for fans (and has something like a million hits, so there, Powers-that-be)

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 20:27

No, The Night Of The Doctor is just online and completely separate from the CoN clip.

bialystockandbloom · 15/11/2013 20:40

Ah, I see, thank you

Annoyingly I can't watch anything tonight as have promised to watch it all with ds (6yo), god knows how we're going to fit in all the BBC3 stuff this w/e, plus the main show next week - we're still working our way through the Ecclestone/Tennant box set. No idea how he'll cope with having to get through four different Doctors before Xmas!

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 21:57

Oooh! Oooh! Oooh!

www.denofgeek.com/tv/doctor-who/28221/a-guide-to-the-eighth-doctor-audio-adventures

(Good list of recommendations, but also mentions that Radio 4 Extra are going to be broadcasting a bunch of Big Finish audioplays and book readings over the next two weeks)

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 22:20

I love the audios like I love my children. Ok, not quite that much, but it's a close run thing...

I keep hearing delightfully whimsical rumours of McGann now coming back because of the success of Night of the Doctor. Ah, a girl can dream.

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 22:25

I don't listen to enough of the audios, and most of mine are Five for some reason. I shall invest in some Eight, I think.

PaulMcGannsMistress · 15/11/2013 22:28

It's worth doing, seeing as you really need to listen to the audios to 'get' Eight properly. After all, the reason McGann nailed him for those 6 minutes was because he'd been playing him to perfection for nigh on 12 years or so.

Pachacuti · 15/11/2013 22:45

I've always been aware of quite how much Eight there was, so had been wary of committing to it. But of course in the meantime it keeps building up, so I ought to get started. And the early episodes are cheap to download now.

TheSporkforeatingkyriarchy · 16/11/2013 00:00

Thank you for posting that, Pachacuti! I know what we're going here at 6pm for the next few weeks.

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna · 16/11/2013 13:13

I keep seeing good dr things for dh for Xmas and finding they are from America Angry anyone seen any good dr who socks online? Or a v necked t-shirt ?( that's for me as everyone else has one, I like the slightly obscure ones)

OodaresingingoftheDoctorDonna · 16/11/2013 13:46

Never mind on the t-shirt, found redbubble do them.

DonnaFlapperNoble · 16/11/2013 15:38

Just name changed (was footflapper) Smile

PaulMcGannsMistress · 16/11/2013 16:29

Night of the Doctor should be available tonight on the Red Button, or so I was led to believe. The Youtube version has already gone over 1,500,000 hits. Anyone for any more Eight? Grin

LetZygonsbeZygons · 16/11/2013 17:51

grrrr. Tennant was named best doctor in some poll.
