New sci fi series about an invisible dome that traps people into a town - those who try and escape/touch it get an electric shock

no one can get in or out, tho water can seep in, there is no wifi/tv or phone signal but a local radio station can broadcast

those who watched under sufferance Revolution on sky 1 may enjoy Grin

Hi all, have to say we are all loving this programme, it is really unusual. Stupid question: what is the book called (UTD?) and who is it by, I am going to have to buy it... The programme has a kind of 'Lost' feel about it, but in a good way if that makes sense- there is obviously a massive back story which we are looking forward to seeing! - Certainly different from alot of the other *p on offer on TV at the moment. Does anyone know how many episodes there are? TIA

VivaLeBeaver · 31/08/2013 19:55

It's a Stephen King book, called under the dome. No idea how many episodes.

Anyone else a bit bored?

I found tonight very slow. It didnt help that there was a warning before that It may be gory.

I didn't see anything remotely gore like.

I read the book. Loved it. Great characterisation. Ending was a bit iffy though.
I thought I would love the tv show.
I was wrong.
I have been watching at US pace.
It started out good, but has been getting progressively worse. I have ended up hate watching it. And laughing at the ridiculousness.
They are soo stupid. I am so disappointed.
I won't give away any spoilers for anyone, but I cannot hate watch it any longer.
And they are getting a second season.

Yes it does Blondes. It's not a great ending, but it does actually explain it - and not in a "Lost" way Smile

twistyfeet the book is amazing, definitely up there as one of the best books I've ever read.

The show does not do it justice Sad

I'm coming on here to rant to save shouting at the TV! Is the book this silly?

Firstly, why are they still driving around - surely all the exhaust fumes are building up? And why is no one apparently panicking - at some point they're going to run out of food and water after all Hmm Confused

And yes, that's EXACTLY how meningitis spreads, through coughing. And all community pharmacies stock IV antibiotics to treat it Hmm

What did the dad say to junior (James) near the end that made James smile as he walked away? I lost concentration at that bit.

Report
MikeLitoris · 11/09/2013 07:30

I missed that bit too. No idea what was said.

I'm sticking with it but so far its pretty slow. It needs to pick up the pace soon.

He said "have you ever thought about a career in law enforcement?"

I watched the first two episodes of this and thought it was brilliant, so I got the book.

I'm loving the book, but as the TV series progresses I'm becoming more and more bored. Fortunately the only thing it has in common with the book are the names of the characters and a dome. But I've just watched Monday's episode and it was dull. I never realised you could get ill, nearly die, and then be back at your desk by the end of the day with meningitis. I don't mind a good drama, but these people are just stupid.

Rummikub · 11/09/2013 09:14

Oh thanks Alicia. And junior is the one who has the girl locked up? I am only sticking with it because I saw the Simpsons version!

I like it Blush yes these people are stupid, but I enjoy any kind of survivor/disaster stuff. Knowing we would cope better is part of the fun Grin

rummikub I heard what he said, but there seemed to be something significant in the way they looked at each other, and I didn't get that?

Why are the lesbian mums so uptight? At first I thought they were just being all busy-big-city types stuck in a small town, but is there something more? They're worried about their daughter?

Why did Barbie kill Julia's husband? Because he didn't pay up?

Where can I get hair like Julia's?

did anyone else totally freak at the video of the kids when they had fits? When the boy sat up and looked at the camera, I found it really scary for some reason. DH said I was overreacting, and kids are just weird - but it looked like something was controlling him...

Report
aliciaflorrick · 11/09/2013 16:39

I found the bit where when the boy sat up in the middle of having his fit and looked into the camera very scary, it was the best part of the whole episode.

I think the lesbian mums are a bit uptight because their daughter has been a bit of a wrong un and they were taking her off to a reform school based locally. I don't think they quite trust her.

This is one of those programmes that unites us as a family (DC are teens). We all like a good post apocalyptic story but this is like Revolution in that it's so bad it's good. We watch and make fun of it.
They did explain why they haven't all suffocated in an earlier episode. The dome seems to be porous Wink

Normally ds watches with me but he was out on monday. I got a bit scared at tthe the boy sitting up. Very freaky.

I've seen the trailer for some of the up coming eps and it looks like it should be getting better as it goes on.

I've not had time to get in to the book yet. I'm literally about 10 pages in and can already tell I will prefer the book.

Well it sounds like I need to get the book.

As a family, we are gripped. Like mike I shivered when the boy sat up and went 'sshhhh.'

And I'm so scared for the girl in the cellar! I'm sure the dad is just going to lee her down there!!

Don't fancy a second season though - I want a resolution! That's where so many of these TV series go wrong- they carry on when there should be a beginning a middle and an end.

I said exactly that when I saw his face.
He wants psycho boy to be the Sheriff.
