Plus...I now see that Lucy's initial reaction not to run away from Serge when he attacked her in the underpass is somehow connected to what she eventually became, IYSWIM.

VivaLeBeaver · 29/07/2013 15:45

I think the returned have disappeared for the day. But in the next series they'll be back at nightfall banging on the roof to get Adele again.

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/07/2013 15:51

not reading any replies - just about to watch as i worked last night

god the tension!!!!!

I guess we all knew series 2 was lurking so not surprised there wasnt a neatly drawn ending but i thought it a brilliant finale with a standoff between the two groups....some thoughts:

We never really see anyone in the horde, inlt lucy and sumon , we never see whether they are angry or have any idea of theur 'feelings' toward the living... Why would they wish the living harm? If they have loved them like serge's mum loved her boys.

I hated the ' round up' it had kind of undertones if the nazi occupation ofFrance, with the villargers as the resistance, people being taken against their will at night, people not speaking out. We now have a zombie baby and a reflooded town....hope the supplies last.
And where is the rest of the population outside the town?

It is like the antithesis of things like twilight and the waking dead and other zombie type stuff. Will miss it.

guineapiglet · 29/07/2013 16:25

Only lucy and simon
their

EatYourCrusts · 29/07/2013 16:31

I really enjoyed how the whole series there was just an undercurrent of sinister stuff, brief flashes of violence, not necessarily always to do with the revs, and only at the very end did they come out as a direct threat. Great build up.

cocolepew · 29/07/2013 16:57

I think Simon got angrier because Adele wasn't waiting for him. He seemed confused that he had been dead at first and seemed to think that everything would be the same as before. Then Adele was married and pushed him away and he got pissed. Like only a zombie can.

TiredyCustards · 29/07/2013 17:14

I've been lurking for the whole series (much like la horde!), really enjoyed this thread.

Here is my theory:
In episode 7 or 8 Julie and Adele are in Adele's kitchen. Julie says something like, 'there was a time when you and I weren't so formal' - so I think Adele is bisexual, and possibly visited Lucy for a sexy seance.

So... I think Lucy has brought back the loved ones of her customers into the town, for a short time, after which they have to go with the rest of the more zombie like ones.

Jerome - customer
Toni - Lucy's boss, possibly engaged her services.
Mr Costa - possibly a customer.

I think Pierre was under the impression this was his prayer group/cults doing, but is wrong.

Victor's different obv, he's been around for a while/returned before.

I think Victor killed Simon, in a hallucination/suicide.That's why he doesn't think he killed himself but others do.

IdaBlankenship · 29/07/2013 17:19

Good theory Tiredy re: Victor / Simon's death. I wish we knew why Victor makes people see things and if he has evil intent or not - he didn't look so innocent putting that gun in Toni's hand

VivaLeBeaver · 29/07/2013 17:27

I want to know what Adele and Julie are going to do/how will they be treated trotting off with a load of zombies. Will they be killed, made to dance round campfires in the woods, etc.

toldmywrath · 29/07/2013 18:21

Fleda I like your theory about the apocalypse!
Did anyone else think how improbably tidy it was outside the Helping Hand the morning after? Do they have Zombie council operatives do you think?

Well that was strange-a double post (no idea !)
A brilliant series, can't wait for the follow up. Wasn't this based upon a film (will have to wiki/google it) & if so I'll probably watch that too.

trincomalee · 29/07/2013 22:23

Recorded last night's episode, so have only just seen it. I didn't realise that the flooded town was the new town. Shock

DP kept saying 'Why aren't they asking for Serge?' but I guess Serge was free to come or go - not held by chains of affection, like Camille and Victor - so he could join the others any time.

Though, now I think of it, so was Mrs Costa ... Confused

I really want to know what will become of Julie and Claire. Will they have to be deaded so they can truly join the horde? Will Victor find his Mum and so not need Julie any more?

EatingAllTheCrumpets · 30/07/2013 08:04

What a series! I was in tears last night watching the families get ripped apart all over again.

I'm thinking along the lines of revenge in terms if why they have returned. Assuming "la horde" are those killed in the first dam break, possibly because of negligence or lack of evacuation.
Lucy - murdered by Serge
serge - murdered by Toni
Mum - died of a broken heard by Toni's actions
Victor - murdered by Pierre
Mme Costa - who knows but possibly a tragic death
Simon - murdered or suicide
Camille - tragic "accident" but also was troubled before hand when she realised Lena was with Frederick

So I wonder if they have returned to bring pain and suffering to the living again. But who knows. Why has victor showed up previously when the other revs all returned at once?

I can't wait until November.... It's not fair!!

aliasjoey · 30/07/2013 10:42

Tiredy that's a great idea about Adele and Lucy having a sex seance.

I thought at the end when they all saw the flooded village... they didn't exactly look surprised or shocked. Or worried about friends/relatives.

encyclogirl · 30/07/2013 11:23

I think the village/town was empty though. There were shots of dogs roaming around rubbish strewn streets.

Also didn't Lena say about Fredric and his friend "Why are they still here?". And the Dam workers got out "While they still could."

I think only Pierre's followers' and the police stayed on. It's weird though, why didn't those families want to know if their children were amongst the returned?

www.denofgeek.com/tv/the-returned/26617/the-returned-series-2-coming-to-channel-4-in-late-2014

This is fab... it links to the French site, I've not visited as at work, and I don't speak French so would be hard to navigate! However Den Of Geek have translated some of it. Not sure if it really gives much insight into anything, but does add to some of the background... especially with Serge.

daimbardiva · 30/07/2013 12:34

encyclogirl that is a really good point - so the town had been evacuated but only Pierre's acolytes, the Revs who had family/attachments still living and the police were at the HH.

Really, really good point about why didn't the families want to know if their kids were out there in "la horde" - or maybe, like Sandrine, Audrey's mum they had all decided the Revs were evil after what happened with Camille and Esteban's parents?

Damn, damn, damn the unmade second series!

juneau · 30/07/2013 13:27

I watched the final episode last night and I have to admit that I was really disappointed. So many loose ends left untied, so many questions and actually rather lot of bits that made no sense to me.

Why, for instance, did Julie not TOTALLY freak out to see her attacker standing right behind her in the basement??? I know she's quite a self-contained type, but earlier in the series she was clearly terrified by the prospect of seeing him again.

Why did the horde not demand that Serge join them?

What happened to the police outside the building?

Why were Julie and Claire allowed to go with them and what has happened to them?

I thought that Victor would be reunited with his mother and that Julie would be left behind. Not sure what I thought about Claire, but I feel so frustrated that we know so little about the horde, what they want, why any of them came back.

Mrs Costa said that the dead would want their revenge, but for what? Most of the people in the village now weren't responsible for their deaths, surely? Victor and Simon seemed to want revenge and Mrs Costa was not very nice, but what about Camille and why was Mrs Costa horrible to another Rev? Camille seemed upset and confused most of the time, not vengeful.

I've really enjoyed the series, but I hate that a series is no longer a self-contained whole and that a lot of things are left unexplained for the next one to pick up.

juneau · 30/07/2013 13:32

why didn't those families want to know if their children were amongst the returned?

I hadn't even thought of this - good point! All those families wanting reassurance from Camille, you'd think they'd want to know.

cheerfulweather · 30/07/2013 13:40

I was also disappointed we didn't get to see the returned. Camille asked if she would look like them. So I'm guessing they looked a little different

AvonCallingBarksdale · 30/07/2013 13:42

What's happened to the police who were guarding the Helping Hand overnight - like Thomas and Laure? Where have they gone?

EatingAllTheCrumpets · 30/07/2013 14:28

With regards to Julie meeting Serge I think she was just paralysed with fear, that he could hurt he again if she let on who she was, and that she knew who he was.
Or as she thinks she might be a returned that he can't harm her, so no need to run?

Tbh I didn't think her reaction was particularly odd.

Plenty of questions to be answered though.... Mainly what the hell do la horde want?! And are the police now part of the horde, or just dead? I think the second serious will be mainly about Adele and her escape from returned, which will be annoying as I find her very dull.

I did feel a little sorry for Pierre, he obviously thought he was instrumental in all this, when really he is nothing and nobody in the scheme of things.

OrmirianResurgam · 30/07/2013 14:37

All I can say is ...Quoi?

Loved the series but lots of questions.
