Shock

This is a thread for all fans of the weekday soap Doctors, BBC1, 1.45pm. However, it's taking its annual break from 21st June until it returns on 22nd July.

Therefore, us fans are waiting patiently in the virtual waiting room.

  • Mrs T is rearrrrrrrrrrranging the leaflets
  • Zaniel are getting frisky in the cupboard (again)
  • Al is spying on Jas eating her lunch (disclaimer: he may fancy the lunch more than Jas)

So regulars please sign in and take a seat. Newbies very welcome indeed as we plan to keep the thread going by talking drivel throughout the break. 'Tis fun Grin

I see your cash converter & raise a quiksilver (bleeping fruit machine place)We don't have Heron-never heard of them. We do however have a 99p shop as well as two Poundland shops (That's 2 shops what are Poundland-not stuff that costs £2 iyswim!)

I want to hear more about the scoopy food. What type of food? Do you take your own container?

OP posts:
WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2013 21:24

Dry stuff like cereals and pulses. I've never been in there so I'm not sure what the container procedure is. Actually I'm not even sure if it is still there, I don't walk down that bit very often.

There seems to be another nail bar every time I go into town too, must have at least 5 now.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/07/2013 22:10

From recent posts I'm guessing no one here lives in Kensington & Chelsea? Grin

I'm all excited because a new Aldi is being built about 5 minutes walk from my house!

Raahh · 08/07/2013 22:10

Ohhhhh- years ago (like 25)one of towns near me had a scoopy food in bins shop- am wracking my brains to remember the name. Was my go-to place for nuts and everything smelled of herbs.

I used to buy bags of chocolate peanuts, that tasted of sage, before going to Spinks for a pasty. I was so health conscious at 15. Grin

Raahh · 08/07/2013 22:12

Grin Anne- we have a John lewis. I could only afford to work there thoughGrin

Aldi is BRILLIANT. The middle aisle of wonder, is a thing of wonder.

OodPi · 08/07/2013 22:19

We used to have a scoopy shop (much better name than pay &weigh) and you put the stuff in bags. Usually baking stuff, sweets & cereals.

We don't have bargain shops in my town but we do have a surplus of cafes. Also a few somethingcomecafes too. Plus the usual charity shops.

In the town where I work I tend to find my clients outside home bargains fighting. It's like a Jeremy Kyle roadshow.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2013 22:22

Anne and Raahh this is so not fair, I am 45 mins drive from either an Aldi or a John Lewis. I have never actually been in Aldi. They got planning permission for one in our town about 5 years ago but no sign of it ever happening.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2013 22:25

We do have Lidl about 2 mins drive from where I work though, even though it is a very much posher town than mine, with no other cheap shops whatsoever, even the charity shops are vair nice. I wonder if it is the last place in the UK not to have a pound shop of any description?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/07/2013 22:29

Don't lose hope, Who, the Aldi opening near me had planning permission for almost a decade before they built it!

Aldi are fabulous for wine. And I love love love their random offer items - we got DD's car DVD and an underwater camera from there.

Raahh · 08/07/2013 22:33

See, Lidl is strange- there was one near where i used to live. Was like visiting Eastern bloc GermanyGrin

We had a Netto- but it's now the 'little Asda'

Grin
Raahh · 08/07/2013 22:34

Anne- the random offers are brilliant. I have a phone app. So I don't miss outGrin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2013 22:50

There is an Aldi in the town where the ILs live but they never mention it or go there (it's foreign, you see). I would feel embarrassed saying "I've travelled 100 miles to come and see you and now I'm going to pop out to a supermarket on the off chance of random bargains", so I never go. I could pretend I'm popping out to the retail park for something I suppose.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 08/07/2013 22:51

Anyone watching The Apprentice?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/07/2013 22:55

I get the emails, Raahh! Grin

I do watch the Apprentice, but am recording it tonight. I'm watching Big Brother. Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 09/07/2013 06:30

We have aldi and a factory shop and loads of cafes and take aways. It does amaze me what random tangents this thread takes Grin

AlphaBetaOoda · 09/07/2013 07:25

Me too cinnamon

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 09/07/2013 09:00

And me. We will have to make sure we remember to go back to talking about Doctors when it comes back.

Off to work now.

Raahh · 09/07/2013 09:06

MsNobodyAgain · 09/07/2013 13:48

Pffft. There's not even any good bunfights about on the boards. Not that I'd join in as I am a scaredy cat. Grin

DD2 and I fell asleep for an hour. I feel rubbish now.

MsNobodyAgain · 09/07/2013 14:07

Mid-afternoon naps can leave you feeling like that unfortunately. You've put me off grabbing a few zzzzzs now Grin

I shall retreat to the garage and do the ironing instead.

cinnamongreyhound · 09/07/2013 19:21

Really enjoyed sports day, ds1 was last or second to last in all races but he looked so pleased with himself! Think I lost him at least one place in the first one as he was looking for me as I shouted!

Ds2 fell asleep on the front of the double buggy on the way there so I laid him on a sheet I'd taken to cover my minded kids and laid it over him then put them under the roof on the picnic area!

Will try to catch up with land girls though :)
