Shock

This is a thread for all fans of the weekday soap Doctors, BBC1, 1.45pm. However, it's taking its annual break from 21st June until it returns on 22nd July.

Therefore, us fans are waiting patiently in the virtual waiting room.

  • Mrs T is rearrrrrrrrrrranging the leaflets
  • Zaniel are getting frisky in the cupboard (again)
  • Al is spying on Jas eating her lunch (disclaimer: he may fancy the lunch more than Jas)

So regulars please sign in and take a seat. Newbies very welcome indeed as we plan to keep the thread going by talking drivel throughout the break. 'Tis fun Grin

I too am a fan of TBFE so you won't here anything negative from me :)

Raahh · 04/07/2013 20:49

I'm pissed off

Ds is going into year 6 next year. So- residential. O.k, not entirely affordable, but ok.

Then, a couple of months ago they threw in a 'heavily' subsidised trip to ChinaShock
except, after weeks of getting their hopes up, it isn't that subsidised, and we can't afford it. Especially as it will be in October, and only 8 of the class can go. Had the meeting to today- is £550 -which is probably nothing for some, but a huge amount for us. In October. I've had to to tell ds no, and he is guttedSad. I've never seen him cry so much. Dh and I feel like crap. Sad

I hate the knobbish headteacher, who told them all about it, only a few weeks ago, and got their hopes up.

Sorry for the rantSad

Raahh · 04/07/2013 20:52

Hope you don't mind-Ij ust feel safer moaning about such 'first world' stuff on a friendly threadSad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/07/2013 21:21

Oh, that is crap Raahh, not only the cost, but the only 8 can go and the getting their hopes up. Poor DS. I imagine there are many people who cannot just find £550 at relatively short notice for a school trip either.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/07/2013 21:22

Oh Raahh that's crap. But seriously, China in year 6?? Surely that would be a late senior school trip / sixth form, if it were offered at all? We went to the Isle of Wight at that age! But if only 8 can go surely it won't go ahead now?

I always think things like that should be announced at a parents' event, rather than to the children first. It is wrong to allow them to get their hopes up for something unrealistic.

MsNobodyAgain · 04/07/2013 21:24

That sounds utterly shit Raahh. We all know the pain of a disappointed child. God, the number of times I have cried because mine have been disappointed is many.

It should have been handled better by the school.

Have these Flowers Brew and a hug but don't tell anyone coz I is dead 'ard, me

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/07/2013 21:24

Did you mean there are only 8 spaces, or that only 8 people have applied to go? Either way it is bad for everyone else. We went to Butlins at Bognor Regis at that age .

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/07/2013 21:26

It is heartbreaking isn't it?

I am feeling sad about tomorrow, Sports Day and one of DS's favourite school events of the year and he can't do it because of his broken arm. To be honest he'd probably be OK now, but we had to decide about a month ago so they could organise all the races so we played it safe. He is very sad.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/07/2013 21:33

I'm sure £550 isn't much to some its a lot to me and I couldn't afford it either. So sorry you are being made out to be the bad guy and that your ds was so upset. My two are 6 and 2 but I really worry how we will afford anything for them when they are older :(
Dss is going in a trip next year which is £330, his mum asked for money, dh said he wouldn't send him if it was his choice and she can take it out of his maintenance. Not sure how correct that is but we don't have that sort of money and she does!
Money makes life so difficult especially with kids they have such high expectations and no idea of what it entails. I lost it with mine two weeks ago and I went out babysitting to earn enough to take them out Saturday and all they do is keep asking for more and stropping when they don't get it. Makes me so mad! I know I was the same as a kid and I understand the value now but it is frustrating!

OodPi · 05/07/2013 07:17

FFS raah that trip is just OTT for primary. I would be reluctant to send mine (although heavily subsidised might have persuaded me) that far at that age. Dd2 went to London & dd1 is currently in Germany which is scary enough
I'd complain to school about the way the China thing has been handled

Raahh · 05/07/2013 11:09

Morning all- didn't mean to post and run- dd2 woke up grumpy.

Yes- it's 6-8 children and 4 teachers.

i went to an assembly this morning, and the head blatantly ignored me. He doesn't like me, I have a habit of speaking out about thingsGrin. Dh is a governor- and at the last finance meeting, they were certain it would be much less. Even so- I'm not confident about how they will deal with the ones who can't go. They don't seem bothered about that- and their teacher gets to go twiceHmm, the reccy trip 3 weeks ago, and again in October.

Ds is used to disappointmentGrin and knew even the residential at the end of year 6 would be a struggle. I was a bit surprised at how upset he was- but it has been so hyped upSad.He's still upset this morning.

it's a poor school, in a poor area. The headmaster likes to conveniently ignore thisSad.

And the tennis ends this weekendSad

But does that mean Doctors is back Monday? Grin

MsNobodyAgain · 05/07/2013 13:36

No it bloody doesn't.

I have checked and there is a Doctors shaped hole in the tv schedule. Gah!

Anyway I'm exhausted from rearranging all my heavy bedroom furniture by myself in prep for decorating. The dust!!! Oh my word.

And I have run out of time to start the decorating. I need cake.

It doesn't Shock

pants- not tennis, no DoctorsSad

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2013 17:41

We're half way through this, just hold on to that thought Raahh.

toldmywrath · 05/07/2013 18:22

No work for me today (I don't do Fridays Wink) so just enjoyed that lovely long men's tennis semi final.
Now settling down to the Murray match-come on Andy (poor Novak must be worn out though!)
What's on next week that means Doctors can't be screened-is it horse racing or summink? Does anyone know ?

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2013 19:25

I want to support Murray as he's British but I also really have the urge to punch him in the face, anyone else?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 05/07/2013 19:44

I can't abide Murray, would gladly join the queue to slap him. My mum thinks I should support him as I'm half Scottish but I would rather see anyone win but him. He's losing at the minute but I'm not celebrating yet...

toldmywrath · 05/07/2013 19:56

You horrid pair-I want to shake his hand-he certainly polarizes opinions.

toldmywrath · 05/07/2013 19:56
Grin
MsNobodyAgain · 05/07/2013 20:05

told they are showing the Land Girls, then Only Fools and Horses. I won't watch the former but OFAH still makes me laugh.

Not everyones cup of tea, I know.

OP posts:
toldmywrath · 05/07/2013 20:13

Thanks MsNo OFAH is OK -I didn't like it as much once Raquel came into it.
Some of the episodes I've seen several times, but still make me laugh.

Raahh · 05/07/2013 23:37

I am not a Murray fan - there are many reasons for thisGrin, mainly his sulky, sweary, ranty attitude when he is losing. He hasn't 'grown out of it' he just loses less The crowd today was ugly, I don't want to watch the final because of the total bias.

I hate OFAH. Fuckity fuckSad

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/07/2013 09:09

Oh God he bloody won. If he wins on Sunday he will be even more insufferable than he is already. His mum is also doing a sterling job of undoing all the desperate PR work they did before the tournament with all her gurning.

Raahh · 06/07/2013 10:25

Anne - I agree.

Murray and Djoko have known each other since they were kids, they genuinely get on well-so I hope the crowd is supportive of both. I'm a lone Andy-dissenter on the tennis threads- and I hate it when it gets personal,up to yesterday it's been quite good(there were some horrible comments about his opponent, really unnecessary)- so I will use this thread to say what i really think of him.Grin

and oddly no-one has described him as 'dour' , to excuse his attitude. It was on my Wimbledon thread cliche bingo card. I'm disappointedGrin

Raahh · 06/07/2013 10:27

And I'm not a Djoko fan either- so I can be fairly impartial tomorrow, and just enjoy the spectacle- (but I think Djoko has the edge).
