The West Wing: Trivia (Spoilers)

Fiderer · 16/05/2013 10:51

We haven't had one of these for ages and I watched the pilot again last night and was inspired. Plus WW trivia is the best way I know of getting through long boring meetings looking awake and making cryptic notes.

Leo lent Bartlet a bike which Bartlet rode into a tree.

  1. Where was Bartlet on holiday?
  2. How much was the bike worth?
  3. What kind of tree did he crash into?

Looking ahead:

  1. 5 Votes Down: Name the 5.
  2. What is Leo's wife's first name?
  3. What are Leo's daughter's first and last names? (OK not so aheady)

Please play along and post more questions Grin Any season.

Oh and trivia doesn't have to be questions or answers, can also be random WW and associated stuff, and pictures. OliviaMN will doubtless come along soon with a picture of Sam Grin

Isthiscorrect · 16/05/2013 16:47

Oh I love Sam. Wish I had a picture of him, sigh ......
Have you watched Studio 60? Ds and I are watching that before we return to WW after A levels finish.
Can't answer any if the trivia, obviously I need to watch it all again ;-)

Fiderer · 16/05/2013 17:40

Yes, I watched Studio 60 but I regret watching it so soon after another WW run through. Josh was still Josh and Joe Quincy Joe so I don't think I gave it a fair go. But I can watch it again.

As for the trivia, am Envy that you have a ds to watch it with. Am alone here with only the MN Wingnuts to share it with - and they're v quiet today. Slackers.

OP posts:
Hassled · 17/05/2013 08:55

DS2 and I have:

  1. $200
3 Oak
  1. Kathy
6 Mallory O'Brien

It may take us a while to come up with some questions.

Hassled · 17/05/2013 08:59

For which piece of legislation does Sam suggest using a Lame Duck Congress?
Bonus points for knowing what a Lame Duck Congress is.

Hassled · 17/05/2013 09:00

DS2 is on fire - he's skiving school in a shameless bid to catch up on the GCSE revision he hasn't been doing.

He says: In The Stormy Present, what is the name of the former Democratic president who Toby voted for quite a few times?

GoatsHaveStrangeEyes · 17/05/2013 09:08

Ooh I want join in! Dh and I are rewatching The West Wing at the moment and last night Mrs Landingham died Sad only time my dh has ever cried over a television programme

I really should know the answer to the Lame Duck Congress question seems as I watched it not that long ago but my memory is shocking. I will email dh at work, he will know Grin

Fiderer · 17/05/2013 10:08

Ah Wingnuts!

Hassled, be proud of your DS Grin

What was the "pass word" that convinced The Prez that the Chinese refugees were genuine persecuted Christians?

Josh was a what scholar? It was mentioned only in the season 1 episode 1 by Mandy.

What Law firm did Sam work for before joining the campaign?

Which actor guest starred as a government agent and then went on to star in a series as a government agent?

Hassled · 17/05/2013 10:39

Only 1 right?? Dammit

Shibboleth
Josh was a Rhodes scholar
Can't remember law firm
Agent Mike Caspar -don't know actor

Limelight · 17/05/2013 10:43

Oh I know that one! Sam's law firm was Gage Whitney Pace.

HKTekGuy · 17/05/2013 10:47

Season 1 Episode 1. Coffee shop. Mandy to Josh. Words to the effect - Josh, you are a Fulbright scholar but you are the only man in America who doesn't think that you are going to get fired by the President.

Mark Harmon played CJ's secret service bodyguard for about 5 episodes. He went on to play the lead in the long running series NCIS.

Other answers are correct Flowers.

Fiderer · 17/05/2013 10:50

Good questions Grin

Shibboleth and Rhodes Scholar.

Law firm was Cage Whitney or Gage Whitney Something. Suppose Gage sounds more likely.

The agent? Don't know but I'd have loved a spin off series with Ron Butterfield and the delicious Agent Sunshine/Simon Donovan

I love WW! So:

(1) What was the name of Josh's older sister?

(2) Who was Ainsley Hayes working for in the final season when she asked about a job in the WW?

(3) Leo was Secretary of what before leading Bartlet's election campaign?

(4) What nickname do Jed and Abbey use for Ellie's boyfriend/fiancé/DH?

(5) What nationality is Donna Moss?

HKTekGuy · 17/05/2013 10:55

This time I'll leave the questions out there a bit longer :)

  1. What WH job did Charley originally apply for?
  1. Which British university did The Prez attend?
  1. What job was CJ doing before joining the campaign?
  1. What was Leo's Cabinet position before Chief of Staff?
  1. Which bunny boiling actress became the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court?

(I've seen every episode at least ten times. Sad or what? Blush

HKTekGuy · 17/05/2013 10:56

"I'd have loved a spin off series with Ron Butterfield"

Actually, the actor has since appeared in various TV series as a government agent. Type casting or what?

Limelight · 17/05/2013 10:56

Not sad at all. DH and I have however agreed that a six month gap between complete a run through is appropriate.

HKTekGuy · 17/05/2013 10:58

Don't know 4.

Nice 'trick' question for number 5.

Fiderer · 17/05/2013 11:01

Clinton was a Rhodes scholar - are they the ones who go to Oxford?

Who was the lanky guy on the plane Toby voted for? Am resisting looking it up.

Don't forget my bike questions in the OP. I did look the holiday location up as it doesn't sound very inviting Grin

Limelight · 17/05/2013 11:02

Right HK...

  1. Messenger / post room boy?
  2. LSE
  3. Working for a Hollywood PR firm dealing with movie people!
  4. Labour
  5. Glenn Close
Fiderer · 17/05/2013 11:05

Good thing I'm not working today Grin

Limelight

(1) What was the name of Josh's older sister? Joanie

(2) Who was Ainsley Hayes working for in the final season when she asked about a job in the WW? The Hoover Institute

(3) Leo was Secretary of what before leading Bartlet's election campaign? Labor

(4) What nickname do Jed and Abbey use for Ellie's boyfriend/fiancé/DH? The Flyboy (?)

(5) What nationality is Donna Moss? Was American then briefly Canadian then American again once she passed a citizenship test.

Agree with 6 months, btw.

A bit of WW trivia. Originally the President was meant to be a background figure with Josh and Sam taking up the major story lines. Martin Sheen was such a presence that they expanded his role until he became the central figure.

Does anyone else find it Twilight Zone-ish that the Obama campaign was so like the final series of WW bearing in mind that a couple of years separated the two.

Young charistmatic non-white politician surprisingly beats party front runner (Hoynes/Clinton) to win the nomination. Goes up against old moderate GOP who is disliked by his own party (McCain/Vinnick). Even Stevens come the elections but major event (credit crunch/nuclear powerstation meltdown) knocks out the GOP candidate.

Hassled · 17/05/2013 11:21

Lanky president was known as DW - D Wire Newman.

When Stackhouse stands against the President as an independent, what's the key issue that he's considering coming out in favour of?

We don't know the tree/holiday answers but I'm going to go crazy and say it was a Maple tree in Vermont.

Fiderer · 17/05/2013 11:22

They did apparently base Santos on Obama who was at that time (I think) still a state Senator in Illinois.

The rest is a bit Twilight Zoney.

Glenn Close was excellent in TWW. As was Josh's weird enthusiastic comment "I love her shoes!"

Nothing about watching TWW is sad. I do sit in meetings sometimes and try and remember the 5 Votes Down names. And as I have admitted before on MN, in exceptionally long meetings I was forced to attend even though 95% of the agenda had nothing to do with my job, I used to doodle which states Santos and Vinick won, that I could remember that is. A colleague who sat opposite me used to stare and obviously try to work out what the TX, CA, NY, MO, SD etc in the 2 columns were.

Fiderer · 17/05/2013 11:31

X-post with Hassled. Thanks for the lanky president Grin

Stackhouse: needle exchange for drug addicts?

It was a cyprus tree in Jackson Hole, wherever that is.

I never understood what the exchange between Laurie and Sam is when she talks about loving pot and says "I'm wasted" to which Sam replies, "And probably free of cataracts." Laurie gets it and finds it funny but I have no idea why.
