The old thread is nearly full. Nice new shiny thread here.

Is anyone else watching the last few episodes really bored, there's nothing going on, all the stories are just fillers?

alemci · 12/07/2013 20:54

also I have never come across that expression before. What is the implication - play fair?

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2013 21:00

Yep. White men play fair.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2013 21:01

Cos we us British and we invented the games and wrote the rules.

ExitPursuedByABear · 12/07/2013 21:01

Is

FannyMcNally · 12/07/2013 21:08

I'd heard it before but thought it was something to do with chess Blush.
Now I know.

whatkungfuthat · 12/07/2013 21:17

I think it harks back to the days of the Empire.

AmIthatSpringy · 12/07/2013 21:34

Oh, I need MN help, I have had to watch corrie on +1 to hear what the racist comment was and I'm still none the wiser.

Help, please

whatkungfuthat · 12/07/2013 21:42

I asked DP, he didn't see it but he does look quite a bit like Craig Charles Grin His interpretation is that its about playing fair and the insinuation that in the days of the Empire only the white man could be trusted to be fair and honourable. He was a bit bemused as its so old and he reckons he hasn't heard it since the 70's

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 12/07/2013 21:49

he does look quite a bit like Craig Charles

ohhh has he got a Liverpool accent too? wipes drool

I had a very long chat with one of the Insurance Salespeople on the phone, and he sounded JUST like Craig Charles. He said he'd been told this before and laughed.
He probably looked like Anthony Worrell Thompson though

AmIthatSpringy · 12/07/2013 21:51

Oh well, I've never heard that before, so the Corrie writers wasted the sentiments on people like me who have no clue what they are talking about.

And on a separate note, WTF is Tracyluv still in it

Bakingnovice · 12/07/2013 23:44

Lots of very odd storylines at the moment.

Do not get the racist story at all. Not even with explanations given.

garlicsmutty · 13/07/2013 00:34

I am totally old enough to know this phrase and it was even considered racist when there was an Empire! Old adventure books - you know, where the plucky (male, inevitably) pilot was called Buffy and had to marshal a raggle-taggle crew of thin-looking chaps with Cockney accents - always involved the phrase "Play the white man" at some point, and grown-ups were careful to tell us why this was an unacceptable phrase.

Whining Paul Trouser-Smell acted like an utter twat. All he had to do was apologise. He's completely in the wrong! I enjoyed Eileen telling him off; was disappointed when she sneaked round to the cab office to try and smooth things over. I also liked the bit where Lloyd almost casually told Steve he has to put up with racism from his passengers all the time. Nicely done, Corrie writers, 9/10! Eileen should dump him. When you're seeing a therapist to help you cope with your relationship, you're probably with the wrong partner.

Now can we see Craig in Accidental Hero mode, dropping Karl in it from a great height, please? If he could drop David in it at the same time, so much the better Grin

DesperateHousewife21 · 13/07/2013 08:00

Ahh I understand now, I thought he was calling himself a white man as in 'come on just play ME' Blush which is now really stupid!

They've now explained Ken's absence so we wont be seeing him ever again for a long time.

Lighthousekeeping · 13/07/2013 08:30

Oh I missed it! What was their excuse?

Aquilla · 13/07/2013 09:25

YAWN. You know the writers are struggling when they end a Friday night episode with Lloyd's 'ultimatum'. Another story to fastfoward!

Am rather enjoying Tracey Luv and Rob's business ventures though! A pawn shop on Corrie Street?

whatkungfuthat · 13/07/2013 10:33

70is no, he is very 'cockerney' Grin

alemci · 13/07/2013 10:51

yes, i am getting sick of David now. hopefully he will be on CCTV. Ok he is upset but could he not deal with it in a different way.

whatkungfuthat · 13/07/2013 12:21

What was he doing last night? I saw him mixing a load of drinks but I don't know if I missed anything else.

Wishfulmakeupping · 13/07/2013 12:29

Looked like he was watering all the bottles down maybe? I can see that storyline going on until Christmas in all honestly.
What's happening to corrie its really struggling at the minute

Bakingnovice · 13/07/2013 12:59

Garlic thank you. I understand it now.

Why doesn't David just poison kylie. Then we'd be done with the whole baby storyline. Bizarre revenge.

whatkungfuthat · 13/07/2013 13:04

He is taking it on and blaming everyone apart from Kylie, I actually feel sorry for Leanne. There isn't a single enjoyable storyline at the moment, the factory is beyond dull and I don't care what Tracey and Rob do unless they die doing it, then yay.

whatkungfuthat · 13/07/2013 13:04

*out on

LineRunner · 13/07/2013 13:09

I caught up on the last six episodes back to back last night, and I just want to smash the faces in of everyone involved in the fucking tedious Ryan-Katy-Chesney-Sinead saga.

Will someone please teach them to act just make it stop.

garlicsmutty · 13/07/2013 14:10

I always thought of Chesney as an average low-grade twit, but he's showing up as a massive arse now. I'd like Sinead to stay in the show, but not constantly giving second chances to a self-righteous twunt.

Mind you, if Corrie women weren't always making allowances for twunts, would there be any story left??!

I think Sally & Tim should get a genuine FWB thing going - no doomed romance or sneaky double-dealing, just a cheerful 21st century arrangement. They can always turn it into a drama when some new sociopath moves into the street, and gets a crush on / blackmails one or the other.
