I got the app and made the 'chocolate hotpot' today. Sweet Jesus it was delicious Grin. And easy Smile

CaroCo · 18/08/2012 22:38

Cake porn. Dont just stay with the missionary cake of scones, try to mix it up abit.

disciple · 18/08/2012 23:41

I am extra happy that the British Bake off is back on, it starts my baking sensations again. I felt sorry for the lady who had to leave, you should always follow the instructions!

ppeatfruit · 19/08/2012 09:00

yes disciple it's like having to be your name even when you're doing yr. own thing I LOVE polenta cakes but Saint Salty and Saint Mary don't so tough mate Grin

VikingVagine · 19/08/2012 09:10

?3.99 for the app??? Gah, is it worth it?

ppeatfruit · 19/08/2012 09:26

I'm not into apps. it's probably cheaper than the book but you can get cake mix on books without problems can't you?

Msarsebiscuit · 19/08/2012 09:44

I've got the app, it's ok but I didn't think there was a huge range of recipes and I'm a bit whazzed off that it's not an iPad app too, what with my poor ageing eyesight and that.

VikingVagine · 19/08/2012 10:05

Ok, I bought it on my iPad (IPhone apps work on iPads) but can't figure out how to use the touch free thing, I think you might need a camera for it to work (which makes sense) and of course I don't have a camera.

Msarsebiscuit · 19/08/2012 10:40

Yes, Viking, I bought it on my phone and then added the app onto my iPad, I was just disappointed that it wasn't optimised for the iPad. I hadn't noticed the touch free option ( I'm thinking about asking what exactly that does but suspect that's a really stupid question ).

VikingVagine · 19/08/2012 10:44

When you're following a recipe in the landscape mode you can turn the page by just waving your hand over the camera so you don't get sticky fingers on the screen.

Msarsebiscuit · 19/08/2012 10:56

I'll have to give that a go then, thank you.

EugenesAxe · 19/08/2012 10:57

Late as usual but I am also a fan. I didn't fully register that we didn't see all the hidden picture cakes and now I'm a bit Shock. First observations are that I really don't like Cathryn; it's not because she's thin but because she seemed so damn false! I think Brendan got a whiff of that too, with his comments to one of the other contestants during the show. I like all the other women but am finding it hard to like the men much beyond Ryan, James and Brendan. I'd like to see Stuart sporting a silver 'H' on his forehead next week, personally.

I caught a bit of Junior Bake Off this morning, but was slightly put off when a girl (of 8 or 9 years?) said 'I'm really going to have to up my game now Mary Berry is here'.

£Any says her Dad is a City wank-speak type.

sensesworkingovertime · 19/08/2012 21:02

Are you serious, this is TV at it's best! My 13 yr old DS loves it too which is great. I think Sue Perkins is fab, Mel is ok too.

Have you noticed how most of the contestants have 2 kids? Weird innit?

girlsofsummer · 20/08/2012 00:05

DD1 absolutely LOVES Junior Bakeoff. So do I tbh

MrsJohnMurphy · 20/08/2012 00:37

I'm sure there were disparaging things on the celeb thread said about James martin along the lines of sexist and a bit of a twat.

I don't like Cathryn either, she is this series Ruth/Holly prissy miss bloody perfects, she is always trying to appear all of a dither, attention seeker IMO.

Did feel a bit sorry for the lady that left, I remember the floppy haired guy from last series who kept fucking up, then miraculously getting through Hmm.

mumzy · 20/08/2012 07:50

Mary Berry reminds me of my home economics teacher in both looks and manner. Woe betide you if you start messing about with the basic principles of bakery and making previously untried short cuts!

ppeatfruit · 20/08/2012 08:41

Mel and Sue make it; they 'lighten' the atmosphere and are there for the competitors which is nec. IMO Cathryn isn't faking she's truly terrified I would be as well Grin.

EugenesAxe · 20/08/2012 14:40

They do tend to come down like a ton of bricks on a poor bake... so I think that's why Natasha went. That hidden picture cake was unfortunately shocking... on top of the boiled baba it sealed her fate I think.

I wasn't entirely dissing Junior Bake Off BTW! I saw about 5 minutes and that comment just made me slightly Sideshow Bob [shudder].

Interesting to hear the mixed Cathryn opinions too - that was just my first impression.

ppeatfruit · 20/08/2012 16:40

The outside of Nat's cake looked pretty though Smile. Stu's tomato cake was yuck as well wasn't it? Not sure what you mean about a silver H on his head, a large W round his neck would be more of my opinion Grin

hiviolet · 20/08/2012 18:08

A silver H on his head as in Arnold Rimmer (Red Dwarf)? Grin

EugenesAxe · 21/08/2012 08:04

Yeah... don't you think he looks a bit like him?!

Especially in the link from Cleavers: contestant profiles

herethereeverywhere · 21/08/2012 12:56

It's on tonight!

ppeatfruit · 21/08/2012 13:02

Yaaay Grin Eugene he does look familiar in that link .I never watched Red Dwarf though.

ppeatfruit · 21/08/2012 13:04

He does look better without the gel doesn't he? But i never could stand mouthy P.E. teachers at school and at uni we took the pee out of them.

tallslutnopanties · 21/08/2012 13:15

Can't believe I have only discovered this this year! Is there a new series of junior bake off? I can only find repeats from last year.
