I know lendl is getting a lot of credit for bringing Andy on a bit, pushing him further than he's been before but - he never won wimbledon either. Is he really going to help Andy make that next step when he never could?

Agree about Lendl. He does seem to work well with Murray so hope that continues.

I'm pleased it was such a fantastic final. I've seen Federerer do that so many times though, he just seems to ramp his playing up to the next level when he needs to.

So, Olympics tennis next and then the US Open.

Of the slams, Lendl won the French and US Opens three times and the Australian twice. He was runner up at Wimbledon twice, first to Becker and then next to Pat Cash.

I like having the Olympics before the US open, not so long to wate. Hve they played the mixed doubles already? I hate it when it ends abruptly after 2 weeks

Fair enough, I didn't give Lendl the credit he deserves for his haul of titles. I just remember he couldn't quite do it at wimbledon, and that's all I really know of him. Here's hoping that winning spirit rubs off for Murray at some point, so he can win a grand slam.

Sampras never even got to the final of the French, and only ever got to the semis once.

Yes Ivan soup ladle got beaten by two much better looking much more charismatic players.

I remember DMum, DSIS and I yelling at the TV.

It was much closer than I thought it was going to be. I think that's what upset Murray so much. He didn't expect to win, but he did so well.

Oh that was a very emotional end - for me as well as Andy! Have only just regained enough composure to post sensibly (although, since I wasn't posting particularly sensibly before, this should be interesting!)

I'm glad Rog won, I was rooting for him, but I have to say, Andy shot up a million per cent in my estimation for his charming and gracious acceptance of defeat, and also for allowing us to glimpse just a bit of the real him. I really do hope he can come back from this, and win one of the big four now.

Feel bereft now it's all over. Is the Champion's dinner tonight, and where is it? (Live fairly near London, have a posh frock, can do my hair in female tennis player plait, and can borrow one of dc's racquets - think that should be enough to get me in!)

Well, at least they know the roof works- for when we have the wettest Olympics on record. Pissed it down through the last one. (Spectating here in Manchester- not Beijing)

I have high hopes for the Olympics- Rafa will be fired up, Roger will feel invincible again, And Tsonga will have fixed his willy.

I'm sure Djoko and Murray will feature somewhere

And I'm watching the mixed.it got shunted to bbc2. I'll miss the tennis tomorrow

I've had to let the DC watch some TV, but I might see if the mixed final is on the BBC website.
