How is Jo a personnel manager in RL?

Normsnockers · 09/03/2006 11:02

I just can't see how Jo did anything else but mismanage the task from start to finish.

Love the last minute buck passing on the tyre issue.

I've frequently had issues with HR staff jobsworths when I worked in large organisations and she just puts into practice everything I've ever suspected about them, particularly at the top of the tree.

She is just being kept in to make the programme watchable and no-one should be in any doubt of that although it's a bit unfair on the rest of her team that she has this "makes excellent viewing, must be kept in as long as possible - immunity" from being fired.

iota · 09/03/2006 11:16

completely agree with you Norma on pts 1 2 and 4. ( o knowlwdge of pt 3)

dh and I watched open-mouthed when Jo wasn't fired - she was totally incompetent as PM

pashmina · 09/03/2006 11:28

Jo ws totally incompetent, she does make good viewing, think Sir alan likes her because she has a bit of fire in her belly...doesn't seem to like lawyers, management consultants etc...but he is a self made man.

excellent program, didn't watch the last one, but this is great. only one thing - the task takes one day, what do they do for the rest of the week, and has there ever been a Mum on the programme?

GDG · 09/03/2006 11:29

I want to know that Pashmina and I know the director of last nights so I think I'll ask! Will let you know!

Marina · 09/03/2006 11:31

Pashmina, Nargis was a mum and so is Michelle. And there is another but I am not sure who.
Interestingly the BBC website fails to tell us which of the MEN are FATHERS...
Programme has plummetted in my estimation since Karen was fired and Jo kept on. I cannot understand how that poodle-haired fool has ANY credibility in the workplace.

Marina · 09/03/2006 11:32

GDG, can you also find out which of those men are dads? My money is on Ansell if ANY of them are...

GDG · 09/03/2006 11:36

Will do - isn't Karen a mother?

bundle · 09/03/2006 11:38

my take on the whole thing is that shug doesn't like potential bosses - remember Saira, i could imagine her being in charge of something, but Tim? nah - and the scottish lass was obviously the kind of calm authority figure you would want in charge. he likes slightly bonkers too - he appeared to be favouring Saira right up until the end so may do similarly with Jo.
anyone else irritated by him calling the women laydeez?

pashmina · 09/03/2006 11:39

GDG - if you know the producer, could you find out what they do all week? do they stay in that lovely house?

Marina · 09/03/2006 11:49

The only two I could ever imagine working with and respecting were Karen and Ben the cancer survivor. Both toast. I really am an old fart I think :(
I like Tuan too but don't really want to hear that anecdote any more about having his ear stapled to his head Shock

robin3 · 09/03/2006 11:51

It actually put me off the progamme a lot last night. What's the point of setting a task if AS has already made assumptions about people on the basis on someone being quiet or being a lawyer. The decision was totally unjustified as Jo has no redeeming features at all.
He's also decided that the Scottish girl who described herself as Creative, will have to go as soon as possible.

iota · 09/03/2006 12:24

Imagine Jo as you boss - doesn't bear thinking about

I might have to stop watching teh show, it's making me cringe

GDG · 09/03/2006 12:28

That scottish girl is very annoying though too I think - she'll go pretty soon just as soon as she steps more into the limelight. The best ones are the Brummy girl and the other girl with a Yorkshire accent who was seeing Sayed!!

satine · 09/03/2006 12:31

Last night's episode was the first one I'd seen and I came away thinking that I wouldn't work for Alan Sugar no matter what he paid me! As the PM, Jo should have taken full responsibility for failing the task (2 hrs 40 mins before they even got started?! ffs!). The fact that Sugar would consider employing such a spineless incompetent after seeing her wriggle out of her responsibilities makes me think that he is playing to the cameras. He didn't seem to make any effort to find out how the individuals had performed - he could have asked the two minders, for example - it all hinged on that ridiculous scene where they spouted rubbish like teenagers at their first job interviews ("I am a hard worker with lots to offer") or slagged each other off!!

lilibet · 09/03/2006 12:34

I don't mind him saying 'laydeez', it's a damn sight better than 'girls' I hate being called a girl.

Gets all my feminist hackles rising, no one would call someone of my age a 'boy' unless they wnted to be insulting.

sorry - little rant!!

GDG · 09/03/2006 14:56

OK, they do a task one day, have boardroom the next day, then a day off and then straight to the next task. I don't think they are really in the house for 12 weeks.

Not sure about who has kids (and the BBC Apprentice website doesn't tell you in their profiles either) but like me, she thinks Karen does.

And I'm a wierdo for asking so many questions Grin

maximillion · 09/03/2006 21:49

What I don't understand is... if he 'didn't need another corporate lawyer' (his words) then why get her on the programme to start with??? How long before the useless Samuel and the slimy Manny and Syed get chucked off??? It's soooooooooooooooo unfair that Karen went - she was the best! I have now had to move on to the Pauline Quirke lookalikey hardnut.

emkana · 09/03/2006 22:30

I came across Karen's personal website (can't remember the address though) and she has one son.

franch · 10/03/2006 10:31
