...just loved the first series, any big fans out there planning to watch it tonight... or am I just a saddo ????

OP posts:
jumpingjackflash · 03/03/2006 17:26

I am probably repeating what everyone else has said and no doubt with kill this thread but I couldn't believe the girls sales pitch. Editing is one thing but how can you MAKE her look that bad without her doing so herself?!! She kept so to the 'script' and as for 'could you repeat the question please...... er, how much do you want for the calendar? I mean doh!!!!!! And then she had obviously been told to say 'and then you can tell us how many calendars you want to order'..... but it was so cringy, so scripted, so awful, words fail me .... shame they hadn't failed her, she might have left with some cred.

My 10 year old could have done better job at marketing. However, I will still tune in next week - although it is getting more like BB!

robin3 · 03/03/2006 17:29

It was the fact that both presenters were totally oblivious to why they had messed up and kept doing it again and again.

I love this programme but have to cover my eyes for bits because it's so cringe worthy.

jumpingjackflash · 03/03/2006 17:43

ah and after watching Harry Enfield's send up, I cannot look at Alan Sugar without thinking of Sid James from the Carry on films

TheDullWitch · 03/03/2006 18:02

I loved it on the shoot when they got the baby to hold the housebrick and wondered why it cried. Also hilarious discussion about the morals of handcuffing babies! You could tell none of them had ever been near a baby.

zippitippitoes · 03/03/2006 18:09

the other thing they seem to have from books rather than experience is "closing a deal" outside double glazing I don't think this really happens in quite the same way (prepared to be corrected here)

that Mani is awful too - when talking about his presentation skills "I will blow them away ... I do this every day for a living" etc. Sooo arrogant.

But the worst thing was when he was talking to the bloke from (iirc) The Calendar Club:

Calendar Club Bloke: We sell 60 gazillion calendars per year.
Mani: Really? WOW! [shakes head as if this statistic has actually made him break out into a sweat with shock] WooooooooooOOOOOOOOw

SO FALSE!

I liked the way the lawyer (Karen?) stuck up for Jo in the boardroom.

I wonder why these people are there too.

TheDullWitch · 03/03/2006 18:43

It s obviously all crap this "they ve given up highly paid jobs" for a chance to work for, um, Amstrad. Bunch of shysters and chancers.

Nargia was an up-herself type who thinks she's hot and clever, not letting two other people do the presentation, who d be better than her. If she really was a pharmacist surely she could have dropped Mad Jo a few downers.

NomDePlume · 03/03/2006 18:44

Sheila, he's just soooooooooooo shite at it though. He was so cocky about his skills as a saleman, I was expecting an impressive pitch. When I heard/saw him rehearsing it and then 'performing' it, I was Shock. Utterly, truly terrible.

I was PMSL when Nargis was giving her Calendar Club (I think) pitch, having already told him 'I haven't finished yet', she then went on to give the remainder of her (seemingly) unrehearsed pitch which only consisted of 'Any Questions?' and that god awful 'And you can tell me how many you're going to buy' line. I was dying for her. She just got worse and worse.

Wouldn't kick Syed out of bed though Wink

SheilaBlige · 03/03/2006 18:46

He was embarrassing wasn't he? All this "it is every child's inalienable right" stuff. So transparently false.

But then Nargis came along and was even worse!

TheDullWitch · 03/03/2006 18:48

I see this programme could improve the self esteem of capable women who've been out of the work place for a while having kids and think they've lost their sales/presenting/team running skills.

"I could do that better, you bunch of tossers!" then phoning ex boss and getting old job back.

NomDePlume · 03/03/2006 18:49

It was a definite watch from behind the sofa moment. I've never been a sales bod and have no intention of ever becoming one but I KNOW I could've done a better job than that. My DH works in the industry and says that if a person came to him for an interview with that as a role play/example pitch he wouldn't know what to say, he'd seriously have security escort them off the premises

That would make uninteresting television though ...

anteater · 03/03/2006 19:04

Do feel that Sir A could very easly be replaced by Davina or any other reality TV host, which takes most of the kudos from previously excellent programme.

Which begs the question, why is Sir A linking himself to a group of half wits, who would be hard pressed to get thro any standard interview??
Why not just go on BB and be done.

I wonder if this show is shown, like the American one was, in other countries.. shudder!

Anteater, he might come across as an arrogant tosser but he's pretty sharp with it- he has had so much free media publicity worth millions at a prime time viewing slot every week and in all the mags and papers - for free.

I can guarantee you that one of the supposed tasks in a couple of weeks will be to market and brand his new electronic/digi arse hair-tweezer come fax/fone product.

OOOOhh you mark my words!

meggmoo · 03/03/2006 20:11

X posts-oops

zippitippitoes · 03/03/2006 20:20

Perhaps he is just underlining the fact that being an entrepreneur is more than the talk and bullshit, it's actually work

Moomin · 05/03/2006 22:27

anyone see harry hill this week. he said 'ever wondered what frank skinner would look like in a woman's wig?' then showed a photo of Jo!! he went on to take the piss out of this week's programme. pmsl although it's almost beyond satirising, it's so funny on its own.

littlemisspiggy · 08/03/2006 16:01

PMSL at this thread! Can't wait for tonight's episode.
Psycho Jo has to go.

spacedonkey · 08/03/2006 16:12

I feel sure that Jo will go tonight as she's project managing tonight's task.

I know she's psycho, but she makes great telly, and she WAS right about that calendar last week!

JoolsToo · 08/03/2006 16:14

none of them are coming across as high-flyers at all!

they look like kids pretending to be boardroom wizards!

Bring Saira and the wolf coat Grin
