Episode 1 of 6

Why are they finding childcare issues so problematic? Why can't LSL's husband and/or children relocate? Faye, Clare and LSL have enough kids between them to arrange for fantastic support for 2 1/2 months preparation and then the 3 month tour.

Clare's husband seems like a misogynistic dollop; he had a point about the issues that caused her to quit still being the same though. Lee and Ian seems to have supportive partners, the girls not so much - maybe because they have children?

LSL does not come across well on these programmes. I work from home, sometimes with a young child present. She was very unprofessional imho. Do they both work in Dubai?

I don't think they said what LSL's husband does.

She was very unprofessional when on the skype link up. It looked like it was all a bit staged tbh.

Clare's husband came across as quite a miserable man didn't he, although they seemed to have their childcare sorted.

Dee03 · 27/04/2012 14:17

Oh i like claire and her husband.
Cannot stand LSL.....she came across very unprofessional.....she needs to get a grip and quick
Shes quick to slag off claire.....but yet she was the 1 who let them all down by not turning up.....silly bitch!!

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 14:48

It all does look totally staged - the intimate dinners (with camera crew and script). I like Clare's honesty -she may have to mime (that can't have been scripted???)

When teh dance auditions were on, where the feck did Lee go? Business meeting my arse.

With regards to who looks after the kids:

Why not get a team of nannies/professionals? TV revenue, arena tour and best of album; they should be able to sort something fantastic out.

Clare had to spell out to husband that she assumed he wouldn't be working at weekends when she has 20,000 customers paying to see her in an arena. My OH understands if I have to go a meeting.

Are the Scott-Lees working - if not why can't they have family time here? The initial two weeks turned into three. I have never been a week late to work.

Faye has assumed other kids will be on the tour bus. Her OH must not want to be on the show.

Oh i forgot about the awful "intimate dinners" with the cameras, so staged!

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 15:38

Clare's husband, please stop making stupid remarks like 'that's organised; not like you' and 'that's really tidy; not like you'. Clare should say ' look after the kids on your own; that's not like you'. Not in front of them obvs.

AND I think they are all at the same restaurant! I think LSL is jealous of Claire. Claire is actually quite popular as she has been very honest about her struggles with food (I saw bits of her programme and thought it was really funny) and I bet that eats away at LSL who has always looked a bit desperate!!

AberdeenAgnes · 27/04/2012 17:55

Is claires boy not at school? Wouldn't that rule out group childcare for her? Perhaps they feel it's better to keep the children in their usual routine and environment?

Agree about Clares husband though - saying all that stuff when she's already signed on the dotted line. He should just have said 'well it's only two months, let's grit our teeth and look forward to you comic home'

All l know of Lsl husband is that he was the replacement they wheeled into hearsay when kym marsh left. Think he may also have been in the papers for cheating on Lsl ?

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 19:35

Just checked and Clare's boy was born 2007 and so he will be in nursery. Lisa and Faye's children are under 5. They could afford a nanny to help within the normal family routine and arrange care during the weekend. The tour seems like a much bigger commitment than full time work, even if it is just for 7 months.

When I saw the model of the stage I thought no way will Lisa Sour Lee let Clare be in the middle of the main photograph. I think she is very jealous and deluded if she thinks she is on a par with the others in terms of talent. Didn't she promise to leave show business. Even if Steps isn't your thang, Clare is a soprano and clearly a talented singer. The others are fantastic dancers that sing a bit. I hope she is paid loads more.

AberdeenAgnes spot on. It is a massive commitment and I can understand reservations but I can't believe he isn't more supportive; it doesn't matter what the job is. It makes me wonder about their family finances and earnings.

I thought H was an annoying little twerp back in the day, but I've really warmed to him since the reunion.

To me, the girls look uneasy. I think Claire and Lisa have gone too far into womanhood and parenthood to jump back out, throw on a spangly jumpsuit and pull off a slick performance.

I wouldn't go and see them, but I'm really enjoying the series, how much each one is 'thinking of the money' is what I love most about it.

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 19:53

I think Ian has a steel core - he let Clare take the blame for the split. When Lee brought the resignation letter to their dinner he 'wouldn't let' the one line he had written to be shown. They clearly have some editorial control.

I wouldn't go to see them either.

OP posts:
HokeyCokeyPigInaPokey · 27/04/2012 19:54

I think he came across as a total coward in that episode!

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 20:03

Clare and Ian could do with counselling to help with them deal with conflict. I wish Clare would stick up for herself with LSL.

OP posts:
didldidi · 27/04/2012 20:10

What's the betting the one line said something like "fuck you lot - I'm off"

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 20:24

I think something more self centred like 'It is time to make me happy'

OP posts:
Dee03 · 27/04/2012 20:33

I saw LSL husband johnny in panto years ago and he was dire....no stage presence, no sense of humour, crap!!!

H seems to have grown up a bit but he did let claire take all the grief about the split, or thats what the programme led us to believe anyway!

I wish claire would stick up for herself more too. Shes the only one with any talent

Eggrules · 27/04/2012 20:43

To be fair to LSL, she said as much with regard to Clare taking the blame. She said needed to think about why Ian had managed to avoid any flack. She didn't confront him on screen though.

I really do want to like LSL. She doesn't come across very well on these shows.

OP posts:
stressheaderic · 27/04/2012 23:18

Either she's had a very unkind edit, or she's a bit of a cold fish in real life. I suspect the latter.

AberdeenAgnes · 28/04/2012 19:10

Just googled it too...Claire's boy was born in May 2007, so must be in reception right now...

Eggrules · 28/04/2012 20:45

stressheaderic one of the taster clips is of LSL talking about how difficult Clare is finding the dancing. I reckon she is ok with the singing eh?

AberdeenAgnes Doh - my DS is in Reception so I should know that. I totally understand that he needs to stay in school. I have assumed a lot of shows will be at the weekend. We have no help with childcare and I am projecting my ishoos. I think it is an opportunity lost 5 kids 5 and under - they could get Jo Frost or Nanny 911.

OP posts:
Eggrules · 30/04/2012 21:30

Just started watching and still not sure why the LSL family have to be in Dubai.

OP posts:
RedBlanket · 30/04/2012 22:11

If they cut out all the dramatic pauses you'd get the whole series in less than an hour. Wish someone would tell the make up artist to knock it on the head with the false eyelashes and the 5 inch slap.

I can't decide whether they all hate each other and are doing it for the £££ or they are hamming up the conflict for the show.

Mrsjay · 30/04/2012 22:12

I went with DD1 to see steps last monday and they were FAB Grin she got the tickets for her 19th birthday , anyway LSL is a drama queen I thought she should have came over for the meetings , I dont know why they dont organise work better, Clares hubby seems dead against it , I havnt seen tonights dd is out so will watch it on record , Did i say the concert was fab Grin and clare managed the dancing ,

PigeonPair · 30/04/2012 22:14

Just watched tonights episode. They seem to be spending their time trying to outdo each other on how hard it is for them, and the sacrifices they have made to do this tour. The five of them are in tears all the time! What's the point (apart from the wonga of course!).

FrillyMilly · 01/05/2012 11:04

They are all annoying me. 'oh it's so hard to leave my kids in my home in dubai whilst I come and earn a ridiculous amount for singing a bit shit'. All this being a working mum is hard stuff is driving me mad. They want to try being an average working mum. They are all starting to come across a bit soft.

That performance at GAY was embarrassing. The bit where Claire and LSL nearly hugged then changed their minds then hugged awkwardly was funny.
