STEPS: On The Road Again?

Episode 1 of 6

Why are they finding childcare issues so problematic? Why can't LSL's husband and/or children relocate? Faye, Clare and LSL have enough kids between them to arrange for fantastic support for 2 1/2 months preparation and then the 3 month tour.

Clare's husband seems like a misogynistic dollop; he had a point about the issues that caused her to quit still being the same though. Lee and Ian seems to have supportive partners, the girls not so much - maybe because they have children?

LSL does not come across well on these programmes. I work from home, sometimes with a young child present. She was very unprofessional imho. Do they both work in Dubai?

Also, I was at Manchester. They looked like they hated each other.

robotcornysilk · 15/05/2012 11:22

oh I missed it last night Sad

Pinkjenny · 15/05/2012 11:27

That's a lie, I was at Liverpool. I'm so distracted by this drama I have forgotten where I live Grin

southeastastra · 15/05/2012 15:34

the costumes were really awful, who designed them? did nothing for any of the band! poor claire in that green sequin creation!

they do all seem nice enough but i doubt steps as a band could continue filling stadiums year after year.

ceebeegeebies · 15/05/2012 16:58

Did anyone else think that Claire's husband was a bit of a b*stard last night - really laying it on thick about how the children aren't getting to see her very much and how she is so busy all they are getting is an hour here and an hour there etc - felt really sorry for her as what she needs is support as she is entitled to her career (and I suspect her career pays for the lifestyle they have).

And never mind the green sequin number - what about the big pink sequin monstrosity that Claire was wearing for her solo number - that was extremely unflattering!

Pinkjenny · 15/05/2012 17:10

Yeah, I thought that about the husband last night too. Although my dc are the same age as Claire's and would find it hard, especially as she has been at home so far. I think it's fair to say he's not exactly keen on the idea, but I suppose he was witness to her unhappiness before.

Good point Claire made about them focusing on their leaving and not actually caring about the reasons.

LIZS · 15/05/2012 17:12

The shiny fish tail number made her bum/hips look huge ! I don't get all this "I'm angry, we should have been more vocally ready" , she "could have got fitter before rehearsals" etc. If you are committing yourself to a long tour or even just the odd night performing and plan to sing "live" surely you'd put the preparation in. It wasn't that short notice and is part of being professional about it. They shouldn't need someone to tell them to do so or organising it. Only Lee and Faye really need this to work lonbger term anyway, the others already seem to have other sources of income.

Pinkjenny · 15/05/2012 18:34

Faye seemed a bit psychotic last night. All my venom towards Lisa is being transferred to Lee.

ceebeegeebies · 15/05/2012 19:55

Pinkjenny I would find it extremely hard aswell (my DC are also similar ages) but if I had decided to do it, I would bloody well expect my DH to support me and not lay the guilt trip on me for leaving them.

Yes, totally agree about Lee and Faye - they do seem to need it more than the others for whatever reason and clearly they need Claire on board for it to work and she isn't really that bothered about being it for the long-term. Faye definitely has a bitchy nasty streak inside her that is not attractive Hmm And why did Lisa travel seperately to the gig??

Anyway, I will have to watch it again tonight as DH was away last night and won't be happy that I watched it without him so I will have to pretend that tonight it is all new to me Grin

Dee03 · 15/05/2012 22:34

I usually like what Claire wears but those dresses were bloody awful.
Did she not look in the mirror at all!!!
And why did we only hear/see claire do her solo and not any of the others i wonder!!!

gerbiltamer · 15/05/2012 23:09

I am in total agreement about the costumes - they were downright horrible. I also believe that Claire's husband is very domineering, he damns with feint praise all of the time.

Dee03 · 16/05/2012 08:06

I used to think he was ok but he didnt come across well the other night!
Then again the programme is edited heavily so we might not be seeing the true account of the conversation...
Poor Claire tho, i did feel sorry for her!

And as for LSL....dont even get me started!!!!
Travelling seperately when the other 2 had their kids with them!!!!!!

chipstick10 · 16/05/2012 11:57

Im not liking claires husband. I remember she did a one off i think about loosing weight, when she first came back into the public domain after her little stint with H. I remember thinking then that there was something a bit off about him. He is quietly domineering and contstantly puts her down chipping away at her confidence. Faye is far bitchier than i thought she was. If it wasnt for claire there would be no Steps imo.

Mrsjay · 16/05/2012 20:22

I lost my STEBS bitchfest i thought id hidden it , anyway , I think clareshusband comes across as i a prick and a jealous prick at that , clare was fine until he started his Pish ,
LSL being all upset about the children AGAIN , why cant her husband and children go with her , her children are not school age or LSL could bring them and get a nanny faye didnt have her husband with her ,
I didnt see how awful clares dress was at the concert it looked fab far away , but it was horrible not flattering at all
, faye and lee so want to be going on forever they are really wanting the band to go further , oh and i did snigger when they were doing the warm ups of the voices and Lee was playing with his phone Grin

Mrsjay · 16/05/2012 20:26

maybe see the other solos next week , Faye did one night only with men in little glittering pants and a big shoe NOT CAMP AT ALL Wink

and i meant steps obviously

ceebeegeebies · 16/05/2012 21:04

MRsjay just out of interest, how was the singing on all the other solos? Was it in tune??

I also sniggered at Lee opting out of the vocal warm-up Grin

Mrsjay · 16/05/2012 21:12

the singing wa\s fine lee sang moves like jagger and had girls all around , we could see the sound/light booth from where we were sitting DD is doing music production and she said the Autotune was quite high on some of them , LSL sang a dance number and H sang dont stop believing , they sounded Fine even if they got some help , I really enjoyed it was a brilliant show ,

Pinkjenny · 16/05/2012 22:33

Faye has quite a good voice really, although it's a little shrill. Lee is bloody crap.

robotcornysilk · 17/05/2012 18:21

If Faye and Lee are so desperate for steps to continue they need to stop being so horrible to Clare! All this some people in the bad aren't as committed as everyone else bitchiness must be doing her head in.

Mrsjay · 18/05/2012 09:36

I follow clare on twitter she has reacted to what people have being saying about her husband on twitter , maybe its editing and he isnt a prick after all ,

ceebeegeebies · 18/05/2012 12:36

MrsJay yes but she would say that wouldn't she? She is hardly going to say 'well actually he is a prick but I married him anyway' Hmm

harryandlily · 18/05/2012 12:54

Biggest load of rubbish but some how can't help myself watching! Very dramatic but entertaining, I love it!

Mrsjay · 18/05/2012 16:43

maybe i should have added 1 of these Hmm too cos i think he is a nob he doesnt seem very supportive

feelinghappynow · 18/05/2012 17:04

I love it because it's so awful - and pleased to see that everything me and dh have said has been mentioned on here!

Stop moaning, you're getting paid loads of cash no doubt - you didn't have to do it. Hideous outfits for Claire, don't like LSL at all, why is childcare such an issue? Kids can go to school/nursery for part of the week surely or get a few nannies in to help. I felt like throwing something at the tv when LSL moaned about not coming back to the UK cos of her kids - fly them over then surely! No family, grandparents, aunties that could help out?

Love it Grin

clam · 18/05/2012 19:22

Have to say I'm getting very weary of them crying all the time, and trying to stop their massive amounts of slap running down their faces. Is it really such a bloody hardship? At least they have the option in life of earning a shedload of cash relatively easily. There are many people watching who'd love that opportunity in these tough times.
