Anyone else really looking forward to this?

I always remember, of course, the guy who was living in the scottish islands but then became a politician.

Was wondering when it was due again...great. Neil was the reclusive guy who started out as a sweet fresh-faced little boy...look forward to seeing it.

What's happened to the thing that Professor Winston bloke did with all the kids born in 2000? It used to be a yearly thing.

wintera · 20/02/2012 19:03

The last time it was on my little girl was a tiny baby and I remember watching it as I was nursing her. She's seven this year and now I'm pregnant with my second child so both my baby's seven years will always coincide with those people's seven years. If you know what I mean. I didn't plan it that way though! Just a coincidence.

YuleingFanjo · 20/02/2012 19:40

Wikipedia says the Winston thing, child of our time, has been put on hold until 2013. not sure why.

Thats a shame, I liked it. That poor girl whose mum died. Sad

I haven't seen the 7up one, will look out for it this year.

YuleingFanjo · 20/02/2012 19:49

you can see some of 7up here :)

My parents are the same age as the 7-up people, I don't know why but for some reason this makes it really poignant for me. I suppose it is because when they watch it they reflect on their lives & the lives of their friends & classmates. It is such a brilliant idea & so beautifully done.

I am looking forward to it, but at the same time I dread the thought that bad things will have happened to the people since the last time, which has often happened of course.

YuleingFanjo · 20/02/2012 19:57

I always remember the kid from Yorkshire who became a scientist in America and the guy who was teaching abroad and eventually gave neil a home.

God, I was just thinking my DH is only a couple of years younger than them!

YuleingFanjo · 20/02/2012 20:05

just watching 14 up and i think it's so sad how so many of the kids had their lives planned for them by their parents and yet they seem so unhappy :(

It's ok VivaLeBeaver, my parents had me pretty young (21). I'm always being mistaken for my mum's sister - or worse, my dad's girlfriend bleurgh! Grin

I think it's the little lost kids (like Neil) who turned into lost adults that break my heart. You are just begging life to give them a break.

It is such a great picture of how unique and unusual each person's life is though. None of them are really boring.

SaguaroBlossom · 24/02/2012 20:14

"I want to be an astronaut" - Neil, bless him.

Thanks for giving me a heads up on this - we are away for some time in May so will need to get organised!

cartblanche · 24/02/2012 20:17

Am so looking forward to this. I thought they'd cancelled because it felt MUCH longer ago since the last one. Can't wait.

RustyBear · 24/02/2012 20:32

I always watch, they are just a year older than me and the same age as DH.

bamboostalks · 24/02/2012 20:44

Just such a shame they were not more women included. The changes in women's lives in the past 50 years have been truly amazing.

NormanTebbit · 24/02/2012 21:34

We used to watch it at school. I'll look out for it.

DuelingFanjo · 09/05/2012 23:11

Columbia999 · 13/05/2012 00:09

I can't wait for 56 Up! I've watched every single one, and feel like I've grown up with the children from 7 Up. I hope Neil is still ok, I think everyone worries about him when each film comes up!

wheredidiputit · 14/05/2012 13:54

Just bumping as it starts tonight at 9pm on ITV.

DuelingFanjo · 14/05/2012 15:30
