Soooooooooooooo I still reckon Cora to kick the bucket, shuffle of this mortal coil, sing with the choir eternal etc etc

I bet Jane is handy with a shorehorn for Lord 6, he's been out of action for a while so may need some help.

and sir r so had mrs b killed

Georgimama · 01/11/2011 10:34

these are musings not spoilers natch

diddl · 01/11/2011 10:43

"Diddl- shush."

Why?

I´m only guessing the same as everyone else!

plupervert · 01/11/2011 10:46

Yeah, Isobel's a far warmer mother than Cora, whose idea of maternal "interest" seems to be being passively pissed off that Matthew can get married now, and at Downton, as that will overshadow Mary (but not actually trying to make the marriage not happen).

Matthew has become far more appealing through being stoic about being crippled (tho' visibly fighting bitterness when the impostor came along) than being stoic in the field of war, where he didn't seem particularly concerned, seemed rather arrogant, in fact.

"I do find it slightly odd thomas trashed his whole stock, why not try and flog it bit by bit out of town, to individuals?"

ThePsychic Satsuma - yes, good point!

Also, I observed that the shelving was definately MDF - NOT wood.

diddl · 01/11/2011 11:48

I wonder what the provision is for Cora & the girls when Lord G dies?

But since it started in 1912 they been trying to get Mary married off.

Must be pretty annoying that she blew her chances due to Pamuk & now will only get offers from someone like Sir R or Matthew who doesn´t know "the secret".

GoEasyPudding · 01/11/2011 12:20

Julian Fellows has not made too much effort with the plot, so I think ITV need to recruit us mumsnetters as the new screenwriters for series 3.

Still love the show though, can?t help myself. Screamed when Lord G kissed the maid over the teapots. About time there was some red-hot action!

The scenes constantly amuse me where no one is allowed to move. Everyone is standing stock still waiting to say his or her next line. People look up and someone new has come into the room but they too are standing still by the door.

I am wondering if Mary might not really care who she marries as she has had the night of her life with Pamuk and she knows nothing can top it!

argghh · 01/11/2011 14:01

I love these threads, sorry I dont have the imagination to contribute more

diddl · 01/11/2011 14:09

So, who do we think dies?

Cora & Lavinia?

Just Lavinia?

Any downstairsers?

FearfulYank · 01/11/2011 14:50

Am sad Lord 6 kissed the maid!

MarthasHarbour · 01/11/2011 15:01

i am with the poster up'fred who reckons that Lord 6 and Rita O'Brien confess their snog and soap sins to Cora on her deathbed, only for her to recover and make their lives hell! Grin bruharharharharrrrrr

Animation · 01/11/2011 15:59

If I was Mary I'd have had enough by now of Matthew gloryfying Lavinia.

And if he doesn't love Lavinia - he's sure led her on a long time - acting like he does.

It'd be awful for Lavinia to suddenly find out he's loved Mary all along. Therefore it might be best if she dies. Sorry.Sad

limitedperiodonly · 01/11/2011 16:28

Some people would call you callous animation. Not me, I know you're just being pragmatic Grin

Lav to die after catching M&M in a passionate clinch. Matthew blames himself and goes off to join a monastery (ok maybe a bit far fetched on that last bit!)

Carson is ill from the trailer so I reckon that Thomas is his temp and dies a VERY GOOD JOB thus pushing ol' Carsers into retirement. He then marries 'Mrs' H.

Pickle needs to bugger off to Ireland and leave Sybs to go to university and become a laydee doctor.

Edith seduces Scallon behind the begonias and shags him with such gusto on their wedding night he has a heart attack and leaves her shed loads of cash.

Mary leaves for Italy to go on a tour. Comes back upduffed by a swarthy Italian and Lord 6 convinces Matthew to marry her and claim the child as his to continue the line.

Cora divorces Lord 6 and kicks him out to live in poverty with Jane and her son.

It would certainly be a twist if Lord G gets the maid pregnant.

If Cora survives, perhaps he´ll realise what a twit he´s being.

diddl · 01/11/2011 19:11

Oh my goodness-I´ve just seen a clip on the One Show of M&M dancing.

Anyone else ?

Avantia · 01/11/2011 20:11

Have seen some of that clip before - was it at the end of last Sundays when showing next weeks clips ?

ThePsychicSatsuma · 01/11/2011 20:15

dont feel sorry for Lav; that she's been led on by matty - she's being paid to keep him busy by Sir R.
sadly bates hasnt got enough about him to have killed vera, it definately looks like that was sir R too...

Animation · 01/11/2011 20:19

"dont feel sorry for Lav; that she's been led on by matty - she's being paid to keep him busy by Sir R"

OMG Shock I never thought of it like that - that would make perfect sense!

ThePsychicSatsuma - you're on good thinking form. Smile

diddl · 01/11/2011 20:24

"she's being paid to keep him busy by Sir R"

So you think that she doesn´t really want to be engaged to Matthew?

diddl · 01/11/2011 20:27

I think that she might have come back because Sir R persuaded her-but take money from him-after what she had to do to get her father out of debt?

Or do you think that he has threatened to tell her secret if she doesn´t do what he wants?

But Sir R surely didn´t orchestrate the engagement in the first place?

Animation · 01/11/2011 20:30

Maybe Lavinia's been instructed by dastardly Sir R to stay engaged UNTIL he's married to Mary. THEN she can move on....

diddl · 01/11/2011 20:35

Oh yes, I´m sure Sir R told/asked her to come back to stop Mary spending so much time with Matthew.

But surely they originally got engaged because they both wanted to?

Actually the whole thing is pissing me off now.

I hope Matthew dies of the flu!
