I love this show but frequently I find myself asking why why why all the glass??? Especially when you have children! but then I despise cleaning windows.

Tbh last nights house decor wasn't to my taste but then I like houses filled with stuff, pictures, photos etc but digging down for more space was an interesting concept.

noddyholder - Grin @ "ryvita bricks".

I've been reading a thread about this project on the uk.d-i-y newsgroup - where some of them have built their own extensions (and maybe one or two have built an entire house). One poster said that they probably couldn't use the normal method of cladding with ordinary bricks because the foam slabs they'd used wouldn't have taken the weight of bricks, so using "ryvita bricks" made sense, especially as they were so near in looks to real bricks. But then pointed out that the ryvitas hadn't been stuck to the structure in the pattern of normal bricks, so they ended up looking as fake as they are, and in no way like the buildings around them.

Thats it! A Big Brother House! I could not put my finger on why this house looked so daft - it looks like it was designed by a reality TV show team.

EdlessAllenPoe · 30/10/2011 20:38

OMG.

that woman is appalling!!!

'don't wear shoes!!' they're builders on a site! they have to wear steel toe boots! does she know nothing??

OP posts:
EdlessAllenPoe · 30/10/2011 20:40

no daughter of mine would wear shorts like that neither.

I've watched this back to front. Saw the finished house on channel 4 and have just switched to 4+1 to watch the rest of the build.

It does end up a bit Big Brother-ish Hmm.

I think they want their kids getting wasted with their mates in the basement. Those parents go away for a weekend and it'll be carnage.

EdlessAllenPoe · 30/10/2011 20:52

'we could all be together as a family'

in separate rooms...i don't see him on that dancefloor

by god those children are snotty

I like the house and so did DH. There. I said it.

befuzzled · 31/10/2011 14:37

one thing i did like was the window in the kitchen that framed the railway and the trains coming past exactly - I thought that was really clever. Rest pretty bonkers. Oh, I liked the kitchen island as well.

What made it dated do you think? Just about to renovate a house so wondering ...

wideawakenurse · 31/10/2011 16:57

I went passed the back of this place today on the train.

Looked a bit shit tbh.

EdlessAllenPoe · 31/10/2011 20:04

" wtf is a fireplace doing in the garden? "

fulfilling the owner/designers ponciness...bet they'll have painted it a different colour by now. correction, had it painted.

Dh had missed this detail and now chuckles.. 'man, they were a pair of tools weren't they'

the bit in the end were they are all interviewed together, i bet that's the last time in that year they are in the same room...

vitriol<

yes, where did the river go....

i was attempting a passive aggressive grin.

nice idea, shame about the execution.

unlike the house, which is a rubbish idea (or a whole host of rubbish ideas), in some ways well executed given the quick finishing done at the end. if it stays watertight. Grin

this house seriously needed someone in the decision-process to say 'actually, that's a bloody stupid idea'...
