welcome maryz yes he does seem to love stone..though he hasn't got to do much with it so far in the show...

he's been working for free to pay for it! dedication.

..also i loved the 'church rebuild' one done by a builder....a similar concept - Kevin didn't like it as it wasn't minimal enough for him and actually looked like a home...

I loved this couple.

franke · 23/10/2011 21:26

So what did you make of it edless? I agree that the fact that they didn't have money to throw at this project made it more interesting. Loved the fact that he exchanged work favours to get stuff done. But was very disappointed at the end result - but it wasn't their fault.

EdlessAllenPoe · 24/10/2011 20:13

they did seem to be genuinely nice people who didn't see £ signs, they just saw wood, stone, the history of the site and the future they could share there. many of my favourite builds are done by builders/ mastercraftsmen - they seem to have a better understanding of 'possible' vs 'desirable'.

@ maryz I agree, though i think this will be a prime candidate for 'grand designs revisited' I am an instant gratification person and really would like to know now. He is going to have to work really really hard if he's just doing evenings and weekends - mind you good stonemasons in Cornwall can just run from job-to job - to job....(MILs stonemason in North Cornwall did her walls about 6 months after first request..she waited because she thought he was worth it..)

franke i really think they needed a proper fire escape so they could have had an open wood stairway - there must have been some way of doing one (especially off that balcony!) - i wonder if they couldn't because of the listed building status...those rooms looked tiny with it boxed in. I thought the additional extension was great - i particularly admired the good match he found in stone colour/ construction. i think they are going to love their upstairs lounge, but bloody hate their bedrooms...(imagines endless head banging) - a shame the windows are slightly obscured by the stairs in places. possibly this is one thing hiring an architect at outset would have helped - the problem could have been solved whilst they still had a budget.

I would want to see how they got on with the second building too.

Aw this looks a fun one

mousyfledermaus · 26/10/2011 21:35

it's quite interesting.
I like it when they show/explain a bit about the planning process.

where have I seen the man before?

noddyholder · 26/10/2011 21:40

This looks a great design but teh woman is unbearable

PigeonPair · 26/10/2011 21:40

Am I the only person thinking these people don't give a damn about their neighbours?

DuelingFanjo · 26/10/2011 21:41

these people are freakin' idiots.

TethHearseEnd · 26/10/2011 21:44

She was using a Babyliss big hair Shock is she an MNer?

said · 26/10/2011 21:44

She is a spoilt brat. Love Kevin's gloating about discovering they're building on a riverbed Grin

MaureenMLove · 26/10/2011 21:44

Where abouts in London are they? I don't get why they'd want a nightclub in their basement either! Hmm Most odd!

PigeonPair · 26/10/2011 21:45

Where the hell is all that water going to go? If I were the neighbours I would be going ballistic!!

NosfeRaahhtu · 26/10/2011 21:46

i wrote a post when this started and lost it- I cannot understand why they want to go through all this, a stupidly small plot, backing on to a railway- just so it wife can live in London, from the looks of things. The wife when she was at the residents meeting right near the beginning was lucky to escape without a slap- she really doesn't care about the people around her.

Fed up with living on a building site- their poor neighbours have been doing that for 2 years!!!

DuelingFanjo · 26/10/2011 21:47

oh imagine if she was a mumsnetter! Shock

she is awful, or coming over as such. not wanting to stay on the houseboat because another boat came past and made some water wave and so on.

NosfeRaahhtu · 26/10/2011 21:48

I can understand building your dream home in the middle of nowhere, but shoe horning something into this plt, just because it was all the could get, seems really odd. The neighbours will never accept themGrin

mousyfledermaus · 26/10/2011 21:50

reveal!

mousyfledermaus · 26/10/2011 21:51

laughing at the gold sofa...
