I love the conversations on the bus, they make me Shock, and Grin in equal measure, and I live in a 'posh' town.

Haha, what is it with people not from here, thinking that Scotland is all rolling hills and posh houses with a few lochs and castles thrown in?Confused

K999 · 17/05/2011 19:31

Ahem...apart from that guy! Grin

But the majority of folk there are decent and Brunstane nursery is an absolutely brilliant nursery.

TheCrackFox · 17/05/2011 19:32

They wouldn't know what an Ipad is on the No49 - they would think it was some kind of fancy Etch-A-Sketch.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 19:32

Today, I was in a ned shopping centre when a cruise ship loaded with Euros docked and they came in. You should have seen their eyes when they saw some of the, um, clothes in the shops :o.

BelovedCunt · 17/05/2011 19:33

roar @ etch-a-sketch.

Lindax · 17/05/2011 19:33

I am from Kilmarnock and unlike TheOnlyWayIsKillie I am not ashamed. I stay in the estate next to Onthank (The Scheme) and ds (6) goes to the primary school shown there last night.

I have nothing but postives to say about Onthank Primary, great school, ds really enjoys it. Great teachers and excellent devoted head master and deputy head.

Most of the parents I have met from the school appear to be great mums (although I have only met the ones who get their kids to school on time Grin), but like most deprived area's throughout the country you will get some undesirable behaviour from the minorities - everyone knows this is not a Kilmarnock only problem.

Martin/Dayna are heroin addicts and Dayna was only 18 I think when it was filmed. I find their situation really quite sad.

The Cunninghams on the other hand anger me as they appear (on the show) to be a lazy bunch of benefit cheats. After the first showing the local paper reported that Mum Cunningham was under investigation for claiming benefits as a single mum as Dad Cunningham (sorry forgot their names) doesn't live there. Think it was pretty clear from the show last night that he does and if I remember correctly they are off on holiday together in tonights show!

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 19:35

If you're such a numpty you go on a TV series when you're on the fiddle, you deserve to get caught.

MrsPresley · 17/05/2011 19:36

the No 14 bus isnt all bad, my daughter gets that to school Grin although her school is quite close to the No 23 Wink

Seriously though, there's good and bad everywhere. I know someone from school who lives in Murrayfield and who's children attend George Watson's.....lets just say he's a "businessman" who "deals" a lot Wink

TheCrackFox · 17/05/2011 19:37

How thick must she be to claim benefits as a single mum but agree to go on a reality programme clearly depicting your DH still living with you?

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 19:37

I went out with this dishy Russian guy who was a 'businessman', too.

K999 · 17/05/2011 19:38

Yeah but I bet he wears a suit when he "deals" - not a shell " suit". Always better to have a classier kind of dealer IMO Grin

MrsPresley · 17/05/2011 19:42

Yes, I hope he wears a suit Grin

I believe he does a nice line in "self defence" too Grin

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 19:55

Exactly, TheCrackFox.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 23:16

Kay's an utter waster. How can she not realise no one wants to hear her bam kids' parties?

Dayna needs to move because thankfully she's not pregnant to that loser junkie.

sb6699 · 17/05/2011 23:28

Just caught the tail-end of tonights episode - glad wee Bullett found a new home Grin

That Dayna is still oot her tree - hope social services give her the help she/her baby will obviously need.

expatinscotland · 17/05/2011 23:34

Dayna's not pregnant, thankfully, because it looks like she's back on smack.

sb6699 · 17/05/2011 23:45

Oh, must have missed that bit. Is Marvin still in prison for their domestic.

What's happening with Kay (the wannabe teenager) and "The Cunninghams"?

Will have to try and watch it on i-player but my new Virgin megafast broadband is going at snails pace!

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 18/05/2011 00:12

My DS1 saw Marvin around town yesterday, says he's looking much healthier. :)

TheOnlyWayIsKillie · 18/05/2011 08:48

Between filming and being first brodcast Marvin was getting help and had been off drugs for quite a bit.

After the show was first shown people were offering him to give him free drugs in the street -
I don't know much about drug addiction personally but I assume if you offer a recovering addict stuff (especially free) then the inevitable will happen.

Candice (Kays daughter) is 18 now, she had a baby not that long ago, has moved away from the scheme and is still with Chris as far as I know.

BelovedCunt · 18/05/2011 08:53

i tried to watch a bit of this last night. i couldn't stomach it tbh. unbelievably sad. seeing that wee girl with the condoms and realizing that there is a fair chance she will end up like dayna or her lovely neighbours.

PeppaPigHonk · 18/05/2011 08:55

I did my teacher training practice in Wester Hailes over twenty years ago. The older pupils would walk me to the bus stop and point out the syringes to avoid my stepping in them. Helpful.

Does teh number 23 still go to Morningside?

BelovedCunt · 18/05/2011 09:01

i used to cycle past w.hailes to get to work. respect peppa!

PamSco · 18/05/2011 09:18

Fanjo, I moved nearer work so I could avoid the bus in the morning. I remember listening to some boy bragging on how many stabs he'd got over the last month. Another time a lad smoking weed on the back of the 27 offering his spliff to a couple of girls from Edinburgh High.

I used to live Gorgie way (not a scheme area) but the same kind of unfortunates. The amount of times I had to yell "back off" at the ATM as they stood on your shoulder. It was worth the crippling mortgage to get away from the area.

My OH watches the scheme so he can fuel his dislike of this underclass but I get really upset at it. It seems that they are born with no hope and no one helps them. I know I'm a complete hypocrite, I was raised in a slightly milder version of the same environment educated my way out and now live a very comfortable life - I don't help these people either!

BelovedCunt · 18/05/2011 09:20

where would you start helping? its like a bear pit.

expatinscotland · 18/05/2011 09:21

No, Marvin didn't go to jail for the domestic. He went to jail for dealing diazepam.
