Is anyone watching this? I had to turn it off after it showed a woman suffocating a baby.

OP posts:
Lilyloo · 12/05/2011 21:12

cannot believe they just showed those clips horrific

Mumswang · 12/05/2011 21:18

Shock I just flicked over and there were the CCTV images Shock Shock. I had to get the tv guide out of the recycling to see what it was [ and it's not in there it's meant to be jackpot and jinxes: lottery stories]

Was that just one person doing that to babies, or lots of different ones? Shock

AsYouWish · 12/05/2011 21:23

Same - I turned over, thought oh this is going to be pretty harrowing but cannot believe that footage has been allowed to be shown on television. I switched over immediately and am trying to convince myself i didn't see it otherwise it's going to haunt me for life Sad

spiderbabymum · 12/05/2011 21:24

WATCHING THIS . FIND IT SO SHOCKING .

wHAT UPSETS ME THE MOST is actually the idea NOT that children can be harmed by their parents . ( either unintentionally or intentionally )
But the assertion That Its always THE MOTHER that is the abuser

spiderbabymum · 12/05/2011 21:25

Also that they could LOCK up a mother and child For 5 days

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 21:27

What happened to those mothers who were on camera doing that? God that was shocking!

HaughtyChuckle · 12/05/2011 21:28

I was shocked at the footage too

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:37

It made me feel sik. What does everyone think of the falsely accused mums? Find it all awful.

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:39

*sick, sorry

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 21:40

Very, very awful both ways. Terrible fr the falsely accused but, on the other hand, I don't think I fully realised that dr southall ha actually collected indisputable video evidence of parents doing it. Not for q minute saying the mothers falsely accused ever abused their children in this way, but clearly some do.

You can almost see how he got carrie away and started thinking all mothers were doing it after seeing that kind of thing ( not that that makes it right )

StrangewaysHereICome · 12/05/2011 21:41

I feel like complaining to Ch4. There was a warning about upsetting scenes but no indication how upsetting. Those images were horrendous.

NotaMopsa · 12/05/2011 21:42

it was dreadful viewing
the man is awful

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 21:43

He does seem a touch unhinged.

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:47

I don't think he's awful. It's such a hard job to do, don't you think? How could you possibly make that kind of call, without video evidence? I think it must be horrendous to collect information like those videos. Of course, it must be even worse to be falsely accused of abusing your child.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 21:49

Clearly some parents abuse their children. But I think he lost sight of the fact that not all children who have unexplained symptoms are being abused. The GMC obviously felt the same because he did get struck off for abuse of his position and serious misconduct - it's back before the GMC this week I think.

And it's telling that initally in this interview he spoke about parents but now speaks pretty much wholly about mothers.

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:51

Ok, watching more of it (I paused it earlier, DD woke up), he does seem odd.

ledkr · 12/05/2011 21:52

Im so glad for this thread,i accidentally saw the suffocating footage, omg i had to stop eating and as someone else said i will have that image etched on my brain for ages how terrible- was a cp social worker too so it must be bad, there was a warning just before the titles tho. Horrible, poor baby.

ihearttc · 12/05/2011 21:53

Im watching it as well...What I don't understand is how it actually got to the point in the cctv evidence that they were actually suffocating them? At what point did a dr or nurse or police or whatever go in because they were actually doing it

That probably makes no sense at all does it?!! Basically Im trying to ask at what point in the cctv filming where they stopped?

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:54

I get what you're saying - it would be nice to know that those children survived.

ihearttc · 12/05/2011 21:57

Thank you...didn't know if my ramblings would make sense! Think it just shocked me that they were actually being suffocated and no one was doing anything apart from filming it.

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:57

It's getting really confusing - why is he refusing to answer questions now, and why is he making vague allegations without going into them?

How is it all so contradictory?

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 21:58

I suppose that if someone had intervened, you wouldn't have been able to argue that they were harming their children - you can't say 'oh but they were about to do it...'

ledkr · 12/05/2011 22:04

Thats what me and dh said, did someone rush in? It would be nice to know they were ok then we could sleep,i am fighting the urge to wake my baby for a cuddle. I know in the Allit case it was hidden cctv but cant remember if it was constantly monitored. Someone find out about those babies please.

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 22:08

Why is that activist woman so involved? What is her involvement?

They all seem like oddballs to me!

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 22:08

Occlusion tests? I'm utterly shocked.
