Is anyone watching this? I had to turn it off after it showed a woman suffocating a baby.

Without consent!?

Please tell me this shit doesn't still go on in hospitals.

amberleaf · 12/05/2011 22:11

I expect the cctv footage was not being constantly monitored, but checked at the end of the day?

It has got to be the worst thing ever to be falsely accused of.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 22:11

None of those babies died as far as I'm aware. Over the years there has been huge coverage of Southall locally and I'm sure it would have been covered.

It wouldnt bother me to be monitored i dont think,id rather that than be falsely accused. There is something odd about him for sure.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 22:16

I agree swc. He did do good work initially - especially around bronchiolitis. He cannot see and will not admit that he may have made mistakes. He has a God complex imo.

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 22:19

I think so. Saw some terrible things early in his career, became overly feted and lauded as the bees knees and the power went to his head? Sees abusers everywhere as a result? Mother issues from his own childhood?

V v weird.

BoffinMum · 12/05/2011 22:20

When I think about the massive ethical hoops I have to jump through merely to ask grown adults how they feel about learning times tables or whatever, it makes the ethical clearance on what he seemed to be doing questionable at least.

Yes, he also looks quite smug. And patronising. I would imagine that, being spoken to like that by him as a mother of a very sick child, you would have felt quite bullied.

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 22:26

sorry, x-posts Ryoko.

SybilBeddows · 12/05/2011 22:28

he seems very very strange.

TheCrackFox · 12/05/2011 22:29

Has there been any police investigation into his abuse of children?

NotYourPrincess · 12/05/2011 22:30

That appears to be the direction that the documentary is taking - he was being interviewed on suspicion of GBH (I may have got the wrong end of the stick)?

Pagwatch · 12/05/2011 22:31

It is a very good documentary. The opening scenes were shocking indeed.
But well put together, a real unravelling.
Some of the mothers are heart breaking.

I think he was so pleased with getting the initial evidence that he saw ir everywhere.

So sad for those children

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 22:31

Did he abuse them? Are they saying that he made up that the parents were abusing the children so that he had access to the children to so dodgy experiments on them? Surely not.

SybilBeddows · 12/05/2011 22:32

does anyone else think he's doing that deliberately wide-eyed thing that children do when they lie? he is not coming over well.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 22:33

Ben's case went to the CPS but wasn't pursued.

Oh it just said so on the TV.

befuzzled · 12/05/2011 22:33

I still want to know why the activist woman cares so much! She went to prison over it'

mossi · 12/05/2011 22:33

OMG WHAT A K**B!

sharbie · 12/05/2011 22:34

i really don't know what to make of all this.i started watching expecting it to be a cut and dried case against the doctor but it is not that black and white.
those cc tv films were awful but what actually happened?in the second film it could have easily been a mother holding a dummy in the mouth of a wriggly baby - i have done this many times in hospital with dd.couldn't really watch the first film so not sure how clear that was, but if these babies had been injured etc in any way we weren't told about this or who they were (parents shown in the programme?).the activist woman is an anomaly - it is nothing to do with her - why is she so involved?
sends a chill down your spine sometimes thought - when dd was in hospital i was told by hv etc that i was too calm and too much of a coper (prob in shock with it all).it is very worrying that these doctors can have so much power.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 22:35

Lots of his stuff not discussed in this documentary.

The CNEP trials, the Clark thing, his secret files.

MollysChamber · 12/05/2011 22:36

That activist woman smokes like a chimney!

I believe the parents are telling the truth and the doctor is, frankly, unhinged

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/05/2011 22:36

Penny Mellor has posted on MN in the past iirc.
