Just seen an interview with the big cheese S'Rallan, although Lord Sugar technically. I Love the Apprentice

Can't wait. Although it's still sad not to have Margaret Sad

OP posts:
koekje · 10/05/2011 13:36

Am sooooooo excited about it... sure someone will give Baggs a run for his money...

ChippingIn · 10/05/2011 13:36

OOoh chinese - YUM.

We will be here for you ... it's a shame it has taken your DH letting you down to realise we are far better, but there you go.

Grin

Please have a veggie spring roll for me!

ChippingIn · 10/05/2011 13:37

koekje - I hope so. But I can't see any huge characters there right now, sadly I think Bagsy was a one off!

MrsChemist · 10/05/2011 13:39

Yay for Apprentice! I'm making Earl Grey cupcakes to munch while we watch Grin

BitOfFun · 10/05/2011 14:01

chipping can you kindly refrain from exacerbating my crush on you? You're already one of the posters who I nod at everything you say (and then decide there's no point me posting too!), then you recently said that you supported liked vegan cakes (i think!) and now you talk about sanding walls (and i'm a sucker for women who can do diy) and veggie spring rolls. Grin

bof i was eating veggie chili til i clicked that link

CakeandRoses · 10/05/2011 14:09

quote of the week? Grin

I will henceforth live on the bits of sick that will come up into my mouth every time i close my eyes and see baggs' moobs burned into my retinas

MrsChemist · 10/05/2011 14:10

Ha ha! I was sensible and closed the tab as soon as I saw the full URL, thus preventing me from bearing witness to The Brand's boobies.

The cakes are ok. Don't taste much of Earl grey though. I'll still eat them whilst watching the Apprentice.

prettybird · 10/05/2011 14:19

Sorry Piste but I hate The Apprentice.

It is the antithesis of what I believe to be good business practice (and my experience of it over the years).

I much preferred the Richard Branson version of it (can't remember what it was called) which, although also competitivein its structure, was must much more constructive in both its exercises and its criticism.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 10/05/2011 14:35

Gah! That photo hurt my very soul Sad

He's oddly fem isn't he? Actually, take my word for it that he is, don't go back for a second look

BitOfFun · 10/05/2011 14:37

Almost Reubenesque.

EightiesChick · 10/05/2011 15:13

[runs away from Baggs link]

Vvv excited. I was disappointed that it got delayed last year as usually there is naff all else to watch around this time of year. Double episode joy Grin

emmanumber3 You're right about the political involvement in your explanation to ChristineDePizan - Suralan Lord Sugar was Gordon Brown's business tsar, I think it was, so because the BBC is supposed to be politically impartial, it was felt that a series heavily featuring someone 'working' for the government couldn't be shown in the run up to an election. [tv and politics nerdery emoticon]

My favourite moment ever is from a few series' back:
Rory: I am your boss.
Tre: You're nothing to me.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2011 15:16

I agree Pretty with all you say, Dh and I love laughing at them because they are such god awful pretentious idiotic upstarts who seem to know nothing about nothing. Dh works in business too and he gets driven mad by them being such tits, and by their thinking that's how one should behave, that includes Alan Sugar. As you rightly say the very antithesis of all that is good practice. Often it's so cringy we have to hide behind the cushions.

But somehow given all the above, we are quite addicted

And old one for sure but

Gingefringe · 10/05/2011 16:36

I love the apprentice but I don't think anything can beat the QVC presentation for the from a very early series. I remember laughing till I cried when it was on and still find it hilarious. I think that the wolf jacket was a best seller and won them the task.
Hope the new series has some interesting nasty characters.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2011 16:38

Ginge - was that the one where the boy was screwing the legs on the trampoline but holding it in a rather brilliantly funny unfortunate position??!!

prettybird · 10/05/2011 16:46

What annoys me is the example that it sets: with the result that people who've never been in business think that this is acceptable or even required behaviour. Hmm

I worked in the NHS for a while in a scheme which was encouraging supposed "high fliers" in from industry and giving them access to all the best management thinking. This was at the time of the "Purchaser/Provider" split in NHS. Interestingly, all of us newcomers from industry believed in getting people to work together and working out solutions together - whereas all the NHS people thought that "business" and "competition" meant that they sat on opposite sides of the table and tried to screw each other Hmm

ChippingIn · 10/05/2011 16:54

BoF - when will I learn?? Really - when? That is not pretty. However, in his defence it is for charity and he did say
I'm not that attractive on the outside but inside I'm a masterpiece like the Mona Lisa and he's not as fat as me though his boobs aren't much smaller

Cakes Grin Yes - I love vegan cakes (I was vegan for 3 years but only veggie now :( ) If you want a real turn on I could tell you about all of the stripping paper and skirting board removal I've been doing Wink

Prettybird -that's kind of the whole point of it Grin Useless people, earning a fortune, doing business very badly!! That's why it's a laugh.
(actually - what Piste said as she said it so much better!!)

Ginge - you are right, I don't think anything beats the QVC wolf Grin

Quenelle · 10/05/2011 16:55

Rory: I am your boss.
Tre: You're nothing to me.

TV gold.

ABitBatty · 10/05/2011 17:02

Oh yes it's tonight! My DP and his boss has had dealings with one of this years candidates and he says he is a complete and utter knob jockey!

The episode where that guy from 'Oop North was looking for a Brabantia bin for something suggested looking in The Pound Shop always made me LOL. I think it was the same episode they thought Kalonji seeds where something to do with Astroturf. Grin

ChippingIn · 10/05/2011 17:05

Oh which one??? Please do tell!!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 10/05/2011 17:06

My DH has worked with the guy they wheel in for the interviews - the man from Viglin? DH is quite rude about him Grin
