Psychological thriller with John Simm, Jim Broadbent, Olivia Colman and Clair Goose. - I'm looking forward to this, it looks really good. Creator is Paul Abbot (Shameless, Clocking Off, and State of Play) although it doesn't look as if he did the actual writing. Can't wait Smile

Great, thanks. I'll check it later.

spangled: He beat him to protect him from knowing his background.

SpangledPandemonium · 03/05/2011 23:00

But did he have to beat him so savagely?

I know, it's not real...

GORGEOUSX · 03/05/2011 23:08

And by the way Osama I've reported you.

Brilliant! best drama I have seen in ages.

diddl · 04/05/2011 10:30

What was that song they were chanting at the footie match in the 2nd(?) episode?

HattiFattner · 04/05/2011 11:51

thing I didnt "get" = bloke turns up out the blue, inadvertently shags his former best mates missus....

And former best mate is OK with this??

I found this the wierdest bit, like it was forced?

BitOfFun · 04/05/2011 12:02

Yes, that was extremely bizarre. Claire Goose's character was irrelevant, and his mate merely a device to get him into Mirzla's office.

BitOfFun · 04/05/2011 12:04

Oh, and what was he going to do for money? He had no alternative career plans, and he didn't even mention signing on. Just said he was going to be 'ordinary'.

Punkatheart · 04/05/2011 12:19

He went home because his life was imploding and he wanted to solve a nagging mystery that he believed had made him screwed up. His best friend's marriage was clearly already over - he was visiting prostitutes. These things do happen - people don't always behave the way they might in soap operas, Human beings are complex and that (to me) was the strength of this drama.

HarrietJones · 04/05/2011 13:19

I didn't see the point in Claire Goose. His best mate could have filled that role

doings · 04/05/2011 13:42

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Yes, it had holes in it but not too many to make it ridiculous. DH watched all three so that means it had to be top notch to keep his interest, believe me.

Cast great, direction skillful, story different. I always think it must be good when you want to know how their lives carry on after the drama but that maybe because I'd quite happily stalk Simms.

bacon · 04/05/2011 18:23

3 nights to me was a bit excessive. The most annoying thing was the background music - it was played continually for 3 nights - more like thriller music and was expecting something to make my heart race - but it didnt!

I found it weak in some parts too. I agree the bit that Clair Goose played was insignificant and the caravan seen was when she asked if he was staying the night was so so wrong!

A tad disappointing for 3 evenings viewing.

Jix · 07/05/2011 10:25

So.... was his dad involved with the rapes or not?? was that just a threat from Mezler or was it true??
sorry... kept getting distracted from programme and think i must have missed a key scene!
pls help!!

doings · 07/05/2011 14:36

Jix Think it was a last ditch attempt by Mezler to stop Simms revealing all to general public. I didn't get the impression that dad had done anything dodgy like that but had kept it all quiet because of wife and son involvement.

muminlondon · 07/05/2011 15:02

I found it a bit disappointing at times, although I really wanted this to be good because I love all three actors - John Simms, Jim Broadbent, Olivia Coleman. It was moody and atmospheric but the script just jarred in places, e.g. 'it's a place called Hebden Bridge' - like he wouldn't have heard of it. And I'm surprised that 'Greenlake' rang no bells with him at first. If you'd grown up in a small town you would have heard of the local mental hospital years after it closed down, if only as an insult in the playground. And what exactly did Metzler do? Sell babies? Why would it have been a problem for his father to go to an adoption agency? And why did he print out that article when he could have emailed it?

Jix · 07/05/2011 16:38

ah ok.. i obviously watched the end of it under the wrong impression, and couldn't understand why sam was bing so nice to his dad at the end.. !
