been off work with flu for the past 10 days and just feeling human again so watched marchlands on catch up twice just to get the story in my head

Maybe Olive killed Alice and her Mum hid the fact...and maybe thats' the reason why Olive felt she had to stay with her Mum...in gratitude for her hiding the accidental murder of her little friend....maybe that's also why Olive kept taking keepsakes like the toggle from Alices coat...and why she was at the pond...when the other little girl ran away...the way killers return to the scene.

Olive's mum and Alice's grandad had an affair... olive and alice were playing (the coat was left at olive's house), alice drowns and olive was there.... grandad and olive's mum have to cover up... burn the coat??

Omigod!!!! I think you're right! DH all along has said Alices grandad has a part to play in her death.

Yeah, we think so too! Which is why he wants Alice's mum and dad to make a fresh start- away from whispers about his affair!!

Why do you think Alice's ghost is still in the house though? Do you think she was murdered there and it made to look like an accident by drowning?

I think Olive knows something, but maybe is not responsible. I think grampa has more to explain, affair with Olive's mum would explain a lot, explains why he told his own wife it is better not to know things.

Why has Alice now been investigated in the 80s, and now, and still not found peace? Is Ruth (back in Marchlands now) got a mysterious tale to tell too?

I think that Alice accidentally died, and I do hope the parents notice that poor boy fitting sometime soon!

Her dying in the house and not in water would explain the necklace and the coat being elsewhere...

Well quite, and she is a restless ghost and traditionally they haunt where they die only in stories obviously so we are thinking that it has to be to do with the actual house. The water bit comes after although we have seen scenes of her drowning.

Maybe she drowned in the bath. There seems to be lots of bathroom scenes!

I thought the priest's reaction when Dean Andrews turned up was a bit odd ... he had a strange reaction to being asked if he remembered a child's name. I reckon he has maybe heard a confession, way back at the time.

Yes. Good idea re the bath. There's been lots of bathing going on and next week the boy has a fit in it which I think means Alice is there.

80's mum is becoming a bit of a nause. So is current day mum - for a new mum she does sod all, just sits reading mags and why so jealous over hubbys ex from 20 years ago . All a bit odd to me.

Confuddled about the whole thing but am more inclined to think Olive has more to do with it than we initially thought.
