Children's programmes you watched that you think it's a shame your children don't get to watch

Children's TV just doesn't seem to be as good (possible that this is because I'm not a child anymore but I mostly think it's because it simply isn't!)

I was thinking through this today the BBC seemed to have loads of children's dramas on that were just amazing and I can't think of any today. I for one loved (to name a few) Box of Delights, Moondial and The December Rose.

Programmes I think it a shame they don't do anymore would include Gruey, Jim'll Fix It, Really Wild Show and Why Don't You.

(In reality my question in the subject is just a long winded way of asking what programmes you likes as a child)

Aquila was brilliant!!

I loved Superted, Bananaman, Button moon, Rainbow, Fun House (I always wanted to go on that), Get your own back, Mike and Angelo, Woof, Bernards Watch (ok I'm a bit old for that but my younger brother watched it). Round the Twist (got the theme tune in my head now)

When I was a bit older I loved Clarissa Explains it All, Saved by the bell, Sister Sister, Kenan and Kel and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Oh not forgetting the glory days of Grange Hill and Byker Grove.

TVs not what it was.

sungirltan · 07/02/2011 20:57

Knightmare - that game on itv was my fave ever.

i loved friday film specials too. there was one i saw a few times called i think 'a sticth in time'?? funny i used to think bbc1 shwoing a whole film instead of cartoons was just sooooo amazing and special.

since i've had dd i am quietly impressed with cbeebies. we watch 'granpa in my pocket' now and then and i always think it reminds me of stuff i watched when i was a kid. bit like that one where they boy turns into a dog cant remember what its called :-(

LilBB · 07/02/2011 21:03

Sungirltan the one where the boy turned in to a dog was Woof.

sungirltan · 07/02/2011 21:07

god i've got one in the back of my mind now. something to do with tea parties maybe and a witch? and a regular adversary a bit like grotbags but with red hair/wig. i may be awake a long time tonight!

sungirltan · 07/02/2011 21:09

Jamie and the Magic Torch
Bananaman
Supergran
Family Ness
Mysterious Cities of Gold
Dogtanian
Bod
Degrassi Street
The Adventure Game
Monkey
Metal Mickey

We do actually have lots of these on dvd - we have Round the Twist too, it's just as good still :)

NormanTheForeman · 07/02/2011 21:12

Doesanyone else remember the Double Deckers (Scooper, Spring, Sticks, Brains, Doughnut, Billie and Tiger)? They all used to get together in a converted double decker bus....

methodsandmaterials · 07/02/2011 21:13

Chocky

Valpollicella · 07/02/2011 21:15

Portofino, is that the cartoon version of Pollyanna, with the theme tune sung by Christina D'Avena?

thunderbird69 · 07/02/2011 21:16

Yes, I remember Double Deckers - I used to be likened to Tiger on it!

Following on from the mention of the original Postman Pat, I have to say that the original Fireman Sam was far superior to the watered down newer version. I used to look forward to sitting and watching it with my kids!

DirtyMartini · 07/02/2011 21:17

Mr Rogers' Neighbourhood. Was that ever aired here? It was American - I loved it.

NormanTheForeman · 07/02/2011 21:19

You must be very cute then, thunderbird! And did you have a toy tiger???

shelscrape · 07/02/2011 21:23

Oh such memories!!! I really loved dogtanian and the muskahounds - still know all the words to the theme song. Other favourites were Jamie and the magic torch, chorlton and the wheelies, box of delights, monkey .....

There's some really good stuff on cbeebies for little one's now. My DS hoots with laughter at gigglebiz and grandpa in my pocket. problem is we've moved to NZ now and all we seem to get is the wiggles and not a lot else

2muchtodo2littletime · 07/02/2011 21:29

This thread is bringing back lots of good memories. I remembered enjoying:-
We are the Champions (everyone jumping in the pool at the end!)
The Moomins
Jamie and the Magic Torch
Simon and the Witch
Why Dont You?
The Machine Gunners
Heidi
and loads more!

Sunday early evening was a great time for kids TV. The recent Just William series was good but apparently they are making another series. The only problem with it was Lily-Rose from Green Balloon Club as Violet Elizabeth - nobody could be as great as Bonnie Lnagford!

Valpollicella · 07/02/2011 21:31

Dogtanian!

Brilliant theme tune!

Terrahawks anyone? < terrified >

2muchtodo2littletime · 07/02/2011 21:31

They arent making another series.
Also loved:-
Red Hand Gang

prettypurpledaisy · 07/02/2011 21:34
