Dh was convinced it was the dad (60s) - until the last bit with his wife.

Love the 80's hairy dad with the Keith Lemon hair.

and the modern couple don't talk to each other like couples do....why didn't she say "WTF were you doing waggling your arms at the deaf old lady?" straight away.

But then i suppose it's drama and thing drag out...

I thought it was Alice's father who did something, possibly accidentally. Because at the end he said "I can't look at you", and then "I can't look at you because you remind me of Alice". I thought that it indicated guilt, that seeing his wife and her grief wracked him with guilt and reminded him of Alice's last moments.

I thought that's why he wasn't talking to her, coming home late, not able to be intimate etc.

I dont think its the dad, to obvious. but the husband of modern couple has a suspision about him. Like he knows something, maybe just that he shagged the deaf lady when he was a teanager.

I think the deaf lady is something to do with it.
