meanttosay pregnant woman did ask hubby who he was signing, over dinner, she got stroppy with him and said he was full of suprises or something like that

he said their mums knew each other and sometimes played with her

i didnt even think that hubby may be alices younger brother .....

WelliBob · 10/02/2011 16:38

Oh, I like the idea of hubbie being Alice's younger brother. Must not forget to record it tonight.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/02/2011 19:31

isit not on series link?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/02/2011 21:48

Love Dean Andrews!

deemented · 10/02/2011 21:57

Am enjoying it tonight.

Would rather like to slap both the priest and the policeman though!!!

KenDoddsDadsDog · 10/02/2011 22:01

The policeman really looked like Bernard Cribbens. I felt really sad at the end when Ruth was next to the mural.

WelliBob · 10/02/2011 22:47

Ok, I guess Mark isn't Alice's little brother.

megapixels · 10/02/2011 23:22

I was LOLing at the priest's advice. It's not about intimacy it's about duty Hmm. Just do the act and get procreating was his advice for dealing with their daughter's death. Biscuit

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/02/2011 07:06

The priest sitting smoking was good too! Who do you think the modern day husband is?

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/02/2011 08:55

bugger - Can't be alices brother or else he would know his mum aka hired help.

The timings are not right - if set in 68 and 87 then deaf girl in 68 was 5/6 (when walked through graveyard) would make her 24 ish in 87 and she was 17ish as was mark when giving him a drink in the garden

unless she is meant to be a much older lady to his 17yrs?

scurryfunge · 11/02/2011 09:05

I saw the girl who is deaf in the 80s as being much older than Mark.

Fetlock · 11/02/2011 09:43

i loved the hand at the end

WelliBob · 11/02/2011 09:45

Maybe he's just weathered better! Grin

I wonder if Mark and his missus are for the chop and Ruth takes new baby Alice.

Or...Maybe she is his mum but she left him when he was little of something!

I definitely think 80s family are for the chop (obv not Scott)

piratecat · 11/02/2011 09:46

too scared to watch.

such a wuss these days.

megapixels · 11/02/2011 10:16

I thought deaf person was much older than Mark too. Was there a part where she walked through a graveyard in '68? I thought she hasn't been shown yet in that era.

scurryfunge · 11/02/2011 11:12

I think she was the child who gestured to the mother as they walked past in the graveyard.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 11/02/2011 11:16

Yes she was the child in the graveyard. Is this adapted from a book or is it original?

WelliBob · 11/02/2011 11:24

I think it's based on an American TV story called The Oaks or something. Not sure if it is originally from a book, will have to check the titles.

Yes, she is obviously older than Mark as she is the same age as Alice.

linda2610 · 11/02/2011 12:04

we think that 60s ruth finally cracked and did away with rest of her family but as she said she went away for a while she maybe went to jail and had to give up her new baby - modern hubby which is why they dont know each other. deaf lady def knows what happened poss as she was with alice when maybe chased by grandad - wonder what happened to amy as her brother given little away so far?!

WelliBob · 11/02/2011 12:20

Yes, Linda, that could be what happened. When we saw 80s Mark, he stopped for a moment outside Marchlands on his way to the other house as if it had meaning to him even then.

But if an entire family had been murdered there in the 1960s, then in such a small community surely 1980s family would have heard about it?

It's just the way modern Scott said, 'oh well, Mark will know all about the house!'

TheOldestCat · 11/02/2011 12:25

I'm enjoying it too - love Alex K.

Only problem is DH keeps getting confused, so every time the action changes era I have to shout '60s', '80s' or 'modern day'.

I think he is doing it to annoy me actually...

EmberRainbow · 11/02/2011 15:16

just i thought...what if there was already something sinister to do with the house which is responsible for Alice's death? and her still being present could maybe be because she can't move on or something?

edwardsbella · 11/02/2011 19:43

love the 80's stuff all brings back so many memories- so many unanswered questions- how many more of them are there ?

Curiousmama · 11/02/2011 20:52

just watched 2nd one on iplayer, loved it. Oooo creepy hand at the end Grin

The plot thickens muhahahahaha Wink

frecklyspeckly · 11/02/2011 21:24

forgive me if this has been said, but the 80's boy who was drunk in last nights episode is now the man who runs the corner shop, so he cannot have been done over. also if the woman (Ruth) said she was a midwife for 25 years, well that would mean she couldn't have murdered people and been discovered? I wonder if Alex Kingston will come into it in modern day, that would be good.
I personally think the deaf lady witnessed Alice's death as a child and has shared the secret of what she saw with modern day husband when she was friends/lovers with him.
