five eps, weekly. i've seen the first three, terrible cliched bollocks but am quite enjoying it. (apart from alex kingstong playing 'northern')

tomhardyismydh · 03/02/2011 23:52

I coudlntl get into it. watched the first 15 mins on itv then a bit furthe ron +1 but still nto hooked. Too jumpy and arty.

hattymattie · 04/02/2011 16:48

I thought their 1987 decor looked more like 1977.

pawsnclaws · 04/02/2011 17:48

FIVE episodes? No wonder they're dragging it out.

Seems very cliched so far - a bit "I saw something nasty in the woodshed."

grumpypants · 04/02/2011 17:53

Aitch - PLEASE PM me what happens as I am not convinved I want to spend any more time watching it, but it's a bilt like a crap book I have to finish cos I've started. [please emoticon] Kitten was so dead the moment it appeared. Rubbish modern cple - how did she get pregnant when she didn't even say 'Why was that bloke in the corner shop so cagey about our new house then? And how do you know him?' Etc Etc. I suspect she is having a girl and the cliffhanger will be some spirit of Alice living on in the baby thing.

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2011 17:55

i really enjoyed this and looking forward to next weeks

scurryfunge · 04/02/2011 17:57

hatty, they were renting the property in the 80s so 70s décor would be about right for rented accommodation Grin

headfairy · 04/02/2011 18:01

Just watched this and although I agree it's enjoyable twaddle, I'm getting really irritated by the pregnant woman. Gasping in delight at her scan, she's huge, must be 7 months gone. Didn't she have a 12 week scan? And why was she being so wierd about the deaf woman? Wouldn't any normal person just say "who was that?"

Can't get past Alex Kingston's northern accent, it's terrible. We did have tiles like theirs in our kitchen though, however I think it might have been a bit earlier than the 80s, maybe they just haven't decorated recently!

Aitch · 04/02/2011 18:02

i would be loath to suggest that anything much happens in the second and third ep... seems to be hotting up in time for the fourth. it's a very stretched three parter, from what i've seen so far.

grumpypants · 04/02/2011 18:07

Aitch - just spill. Grin I won't tell. It'll just be like reading the last few pages of a very boring book.

Aitch · 04/02/2011 22:35

honestly, i've said as much as i can say. nothing's doing, particularly. apart from a great guest star.

edwardsbella · 05/02/2011 19:40

i thought it was very good - the dad is my top suspect at the moment, the indian mum to be has the same name as my ddSmilethe bit when the bath was overflowing freaked me out a bit!

danebury · 05/02/2011 21:25

Do you know, I taped this and dd and I watched it tonight. I loved it. Escaped totally into the plot and enjoyed seeing the transition from decade to decade.

All the obvious cliched symbols you lot have pointed out totally passed me by!! And I am an English teacher - I read too much into everything according to dh.

Just shows that I was ready for some good bland entertainment at the weekend :)

Mirage · 05/02/2011 21:41

Just asked proper northern dh about AK's accent. He said it was RADA northern.Grin

ThatVikRinA22 · 06/02/2011 12:16

im northern....

i 'noticed' the rada northern accent too!

the bloke of out life on mars who played her hubby was good, the emission of pudding when he thought he was getting his end away made me chuckle....

stovies · 07/02/2011 17:00

We watched it last night. I definitely think the modern hubbie is suspect. DH think he is Alice's younger brother and has set it all up because all he's heard all his life is about Alice.

The guy in the shop said modern Hubbie was 2yrs older than him. In bed, his parents mentioned he was born Aug '72. This info was too conveniently given for my liking. So if Mark was born in 1970, he could quite feesibly be Alice's younger brother.

I think shop guy (Scott) is all that's left of his family. I think parents die and sister is blamed. Maybe nasty accident at the sawmill. Grin

I think maybe, we're going to see young '60s couple come back as older people in the last episode. Mark is definitely the one to watch. Not sure what actually happened to Alice though.

meantosay · 09/02/2011 11:45

I was wondering if the scary MIL was involved in killing Alice. But the suggestions on here are MUCH better. I too was wondering if we would see the 60s Mum as an elderly woman. Also couldn't understand why pregnant woman didn't ask her husband who he was signing at (or why she looked so suspicious about it). Did I miss something??

FoJo · 09/02/2011 13:01

I recorded this and watched it last night. thoght it was 'quite good' not as scary as i'd thought it would be. However I dozed off for a bit during it, thoght i hadnt missed much and deleted it. now having read this thread, i must have missed a bit as didnt see the bit you;re all talking about with the modern hubbie and the deaf woman?? Is she the little girl from the sixites? Update on that bit needed plse. Thanks

Curiousmama · 09/02/2011 23:23

Fojo you can watch it on iplayer on the net, that's how I watched it.

I really enjoyed it. It was easy to watch and I didn't try to work it out too much, will just see how it develops?

Yes OP I liked The Big C too, really funny Grin
