Is anybody watching this? two small boys on a boat. For year? Are they mad?

A fabulous adventure for sure but seriously... A year on a boat???????

Myself and DP are watching like this Shock.

The children are so young, will they actually remember any of it when they're older? The people last week were crazy but at least the kids were old enough to remember it when they were grown up and to get something out of it.

Wonder if the parents of Jean-Jacques and Louis are actually French in any way.

onestepforward · 13/09/2010 21:15

Me me! Quite crazy.

MamaChris · 13/09/2010 21:16

Crazy and irresponsible, IMO. Why didn't dad do his dream journey on his own, rather than drag his kids along?

Acekicker · 13/09/2010 21:16

At the moment (just nipped upstairs in adverts) I'm firmly in the 'they must be mad' camp...

...at the very start I was thinking 'well at least they will be doing the whole 'quality time with the kids' thing' but so far they seem to be doing an awful lot of 'in a bit darling, I just need to...'.

Am also impressed at her faith in how responsive a 2 year old can be to instruction Shock

BigBadMummy · 13/09/2010 21:16

Not liking the dad's anger either

I think it's utterly irresponsible. Those poor kids stuck on that boat. Selfish fuckers.

sailorsgal · 13/09/2010 21:19

I am impressed she managed to cook a roast dinner in that weather!

DH said "They are struggling already and only in the Bay of Biscay" He thinks they are a bit mad.

TBH I feel ill just watching it!

MaureenMLove · 13/09/2010 21:20

Switched it on for a look, saw poor children scared shitless on that boat, and swiftly switched it off again. Ridiculous!

onestepforward · 13/09/2010 21:21

This is giving me the heebie geebies. The kids must be so scared in storms.

Tootingbec · 13/09/2010 21:21

Holy mother of God!! The very thought of being trapped on a boat with a two year old FOR A WHOLE YEAR!!

BigBadMummy · 13/09/2010 21:23

Ooh black marks. What do ten get? Walk the fucking plank? I am going to be shouting at the TV in a minute.

OP posts:
onestepforward · 13/09/2010 21:23

Tootingbec - you perfectly summed up what I was trying to say!

flibbertigibbert · 13/09/2010 21:23

The little one is still in nappies. Do they all end up being thrown overboard I wonder.

iwasyoungonce · 13/09/2010 21:24

They are fucking mad, and utterly selfish IMHO. Those poor little boys.

braveandcrazy · 13/09/2010 21:24

'the kids need constant attention' no shit Sherlock ! This is mad and the children won't get anything out of it at all.

MamaChris · 13/09/2010 21:24

Apart from the danger to the children, it's cruel to lock such young kids up in this small space for weeks at a time with no chance to run about. And the dad sounds surprised they're finding it difficult Shock

onestepforward · 13/09/2010 21:25

The Dad is an arse.

BigBadMummy · 13/09/2010 21:27

Language!! My God. What an arrogant taunt he is.

OP posts:
nikki1978 · 13/09/2010 21:30

He is a complete prick. Loved his comment about not being able to handle the mess and "I guess thats why men go to work all day" Hmm can tell exactly what type of man he is!

BigBadMummy · 13/09/2010 21:32

"taunt"??? Damn auto correct on iPad.

Twunt that should say

OP posts:
nearlytoolate · 13/09/2010 21:33

omg. What a selfish t* of a 'father'. He has no interest in being with his kids whatsoever.
Be interested to see how the woman bears up with this.
Can't imagine a more unsuitable environment for two preschool boys. They are doing it for who, exactly??

onestepforward · 13/09/2010 21:34

The wife doesn't seem too convinced about it, or maybe their relationship, all that talk of what happens if there is not something magical in the Pacific...

poppymouse · 13/09/2010 21:34

I've gone over to Dragons' Den, I couldn't bear to watch. Is it safe to go back yet? It got stormy, and I was thinking, FFS get some life jackets on those boys. One hour on a boat with my boy would be one hour too long. It was bad enough on the Pride of bleeding Calais for an hour and 15 minutes. And that had a kids' club.

Acekicker · 13/09/2010 21:35

I grew up around the Norfolk Broads (so hardly the Bay of Biscay or the Atlantic/Pacific) and the only fucking rule that was non-negotiable was 'if you're on deck you wear a lifejacket'.

What the hell are they doing with the kids anywhere on deck without lifejackets on?! more Shock.

The Panama Canal was pretty cool though!

Also how is he running his property development company from the boat? I'm hoping they're going to do a follow up after this series - this one looked to be filmed in 2008 so they must surely be able to go back and ask them all how it was...presumably the kids won't remember much though?

nearlytoolate · 13/09/2010 21:36

I'd be terrified of losing them overboard tbh. And I hate the idea of being out of sight of land...
