My son is(nearly) 13 and is 150cm(4ft 11)At the moment he seems small compared to his peers but I'm guessing he'll prob grow lots between 13 and 14. But will prob wont be that tall. I am 5ft 6.5 and dh is 5ft 5.5.

My children are all short poppyviolet
It's not really surprising since I am just 5ft myself and all my family are 5ft6 or shorter. My DH is 5ft 10 so I hoped our children might take more after him, but it seems not.
My youngest was also 4ft 10 when he was 13. By just before Christmas, when he was 14 and 2 months, he had just about reached 5ft. However, he then had a massive growth spurt and by the end of January he was 5ft 4. I am actually hoping this rate of growth slows down a bit as it is getting expensive. He has also gone up 2 shoe sizes in as many months - right after I had spent a fortune on new school shoes and multiple pairs of sports shoes of course!
At this age there is so much variation. There are some boys in DS's class who have fully broken voices, lots of facial hair and are over 6ft and others who are still in early puberty and barely 5ft. Likewise some of the girls look like grown women and others are still very much pre pubertal. Those who are already through puberty will have stopped growing or will do very soon, whereas the later developers will probably still have quite a few more years growing to do. Obviously there will still be a wide range of heights when they are fully grown, but I think things do even out to a degree. In my experience the early teens is when differences are most marked, and it can be upsetting for those who aren't developing as quickly. But in the majority of cases there is nothing to worry about. Given your and his Dad's heights, your son sounds like he is on track to be a similar size to me. You will probably find he has a big growth spurt before this year is out - so don't make my mistake and buy too many expensive trainers Grin

Mum Of a very late bloomer here. At 15 v small, voice high, no hair, no normal teenagery stuff. We went to GP, GP said probably fine, he was growing, come back in 6 months. Went back in 6 months got a paediatric referral. Paediatrician saw him and me and DH took tonnes of measurements of everyone and an examination of DS (poor kid). Went away, came back a month later - DS remeasured...was told OMG he’s grown 2 inches in a month. Another examination told DS absolutely fine, no hormonal intervention required. DS is now nearly 17. He’s taller than everyone in the house. His voice has broken. He stinks. He is a gannet literally like pac-man eating everything in sight. All good! When it happens, it can happen quick!

Growingboys · 08/02/2020 19:53

DS is 12 and taller than me - I'm 5' 6".

rosy71 · 08/02/2020 19:59

Ds1 is 15 & only 5 ft 3 or 4 so I wouldn't worry. He was much smaller until recently. Ds2 is 12c& under 5 ft.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/02/2020 20:04

Mine's just turned 13 and is 4 foot 11. He feels small compared to friends but he isn't really tiny. I am 5 foot 6 and his dad is 5 foot 9, and I fully expect him to reach at least his Dad's height eventually. My older Ds is nearly 15 and was always small too but has grown about 6 inches in as many months and is now as tall as me and some of his schoolfriends, if not a giant.

Oldraver · 09/02/2020 11:29

Three and a quarter inches in a year

How tall are your 13 year old sons?
StrumpersPlunkett · 10/02/2020 22:22

GADDay · 10/02/2020 22:29

DS1 was 6ft3 when he turned 13. He is now nearly 19 and 6ft6.

DS2 was 5ft8 at 13 and now 6ft4 at just turned 15.

I am 5ft6. DH is 6ft2

woodencoffeetable · 11/02/2020 06:59

strumper have a look at tumble&dry super skinny jeans.
a dutch brand, they have loads of tall super skinny children...

BlueEyedFloozy · 11/02/2020 07:55

@StrumpersPlunkett he's a similar build to mine by the sounds of it.

We've found G-Star raw jeans to be a nice fit for our 26 (he wanted 28 with a belt though as doesn't like clingy materials but they're still slim fitting) 32 leg boy. Ours are from TKMaxx.

The size 10 feet help balance them out I reckon 🤣

joystir59 · 11/02/2020 08:02

I was 5' 6", my current height by 13. I'm female.

elliejjtiny · 11/02/2020 08:09

Ds1 is 13, will be 14 in July. After being 5ft 1in for ages he is finally 5ft 2in and taller than me.

LadyPeterWimsey · 11/02/2020 08:14

Did anyone's boys keep growing slowly after the main growth spurt?

DS seems to have stalled at 5'8" at 15 after an early puberty. His older brother is 6' and we always thought DS would be at least as tall because he was always the tallest in his class. He would love to be a bit bigger.

bulgingtoolbox · 11/02/2020 08:16

My DS is nearly 14 and he is a smidge over 5ft.
His dad is 5ft7 and I'm 5ft5 so he's unlikely to be very tall. He is also very slim.

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 11/02/2020 08:19

I have twin DS nearly 14.

DS1 is 5ft 2 (just). A year ago he was probably 4ft 11 like your son.

DS2 is 5ft 5. A year ago he was 5ft1.

I'm 5ft 1 and my husband is 5ft 7

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 11/02/2020 08:32

Snip your story sounds like ours. My one twin sees his brother a few inches taller and it's hard.

I saw a picture of my husband aged 13 and can see he was only just over 5ft (next to his mother). But he obviously grew to 5ft7/8 over the following years - not massive - but there's time.

But my one son gets called names too so I know how you're feeling re your son.

doritosdip · 11/02/2020 08:41

My 13yo is 5 foot 5.
I am 5 foot 8 and his dad is 6 foot. His brother is 6 foot 2.

bruffin · 11/02/2020 08:46

Ds 24 was 6ft at 13 but didnt grow any more after that

Canshopwillshop · 11/02/2020 08:52

My 13 year old DS is the same height as yours OP. I’d say he’s fairly average in his school year but his close friends are generally taller than him. He’s not showing any signs of puberty yet. I’m 5ft 3” and his Dad is 6’2”.

namechangenumber2 · 11/02/2020 09:04

My eldest was about 5ft 8 at 13. He's now 16 and just under 6ft 2

DS2 has just turned 11 and is 5ft 4, so I think he'll be quite tall by 13 too

Pebstk · 15/02/2020 21:36

My son is only four foot ten or eleven and was 13 in December - no sign of puberty yet - hoping he will grow soon

Shonilea · 04/09/2022 22:46

My son is 14 next month and is 5ft 8. I'm 5ft 2 and his dad is 6ft. I found alot of boys grew all of a sudden when I was in high-school so your lad has plenty time to grow.

This thread is 2.5 years old!

Know it's old, but still found it interesting as have a 13 year old. He was 184 cm when measured by hospital at 13y5. Sounds like there were a few taller on this thread which feels reassuring. He's already taller than his brother, who is 3.5 years older, but so slim, always easy to spot in a crowd!

DoingJustFine · 04/09/2022 23:11

DS2 grew 6" between 13 and 14. I measured him on his birthday both years and couldn't believe the difference.

He's 3" taller than his brother now, and his brother is 5 years older. They have the same mum and dad. I've no idea why they're so different, especially as DS2 has always been the fussier eater.
