My son is(nearly) 13 and is 150cm(4ft 11)At the moment he seems small compared to his peers but I'm guessing he'll prob grow lots between 13 and 14. But will prob wont be that tall. I am 5ft 6.5 and dh is 5ft 5.5.

We all measured each other last night as our son has had an almighty growth spurt. He was 14 last month and is 5ft 5. The change in him over the last six months is incredible - he was always so thin but he has started to broaden and his voice has now broken too. I am 5ft 4 and my husband is 6ft. It is very different looking up to my little boy instead of him looking up at me!

ChicChicChicChiclana · 05/02/2020 20:29

My son reached my height (5ft 2) a month before his 13th birthday.

He is now 6ft 2, age 16+3 months.

So he grew a foot in 3 years 4 months.

Looking around at all his peers, I think he's pretty average.

Ladyflip · 05/02/2020 20:42

DS will be 13 next month. He's currently 5 ft 11, and sporting a nascent moustache. Eats everything. I'm only 5 ft 6 but his dad is 6 ft 8. I'm hopeful he won't be that tall.

Bluerussian · 05/02/2020 20:45

Mine was just over 6' at 13 but he grew no taller than that. A few of his classmates outgrew him, they were little and then shot up suddenly. His dad was 6'3" and me 5'5".

belay · 06/02/2020 19:56

DS is 13 years and 6 months and is 5 feet 2 inches . He was always small in primary school then had a massive growth spurt

MrsBlondie · 06/02/2020 22:50

5 ft 2 here and nearly age 14

MyOtherProfile · 06/02/2020 23:03

5 ft 8 here at nearly 14. I'm 5 ft 7 and his dad is 5 ft 9.

BackforGood · 06/02/2020 23:06

ds didn't really grow upwards until he was 15.
He was one of the shortest in Yr6, and then still in years 7, 8, and 9 but he is 6' now.

LMAPWS · 06/02/2020 23:08

Around that age DS 1 was 5 ft 4 and Ds two was 5 ft 5.

As late teens /early 20's they are now 5 ft 10 and 6 f 2 respectively.

Parents: 5 ft 10 and 6 ft.

Past Gene's play a part.

thaegumathteth · 06/02/2020 23:19

Ds is just 13 and is 5ft 3. He is one of the shortest of his friends which is weird given he'd always been the tallest. A lot of them have gone fully through puberty though so I'm expecting him to grow then? One of his friends is 6ft3!

JustDanceAddict · 07/02/2020 07:34

He was s about 5ft4 at 13. Is now nearly 16 and 6ft2!

CMOTDibbler · 07/02/2020 07:41

DS is 13 (14 in May) and 6'1. We're both tall, and he has always followed a percentile putting him about this height (and ending up taller).

For your son, I'd guess that he would be about his dads height, but how has he tracked over time? Nothing wrong at all in being shorter, but I think its important to be honest about it - one of my nephews is 5'5 as an adult, and his (tall) dad was always going on about how he'd have a growth spurt any time now, rather than acknowledging how he'd be like his mums side of the family

woodencoffeetable · 07/02/2020 07:58

height is a fascinating topic.
anecdotally my mil was sent to a 'feeding camp' in post war germany and ended up tall (5.9).
her brothers were not eligible for feeding camp and are quite a bit shorter than her.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/02/2020 08:02

DS2 is a bit over average height in his year group and is 5ft3. There's no point worrying about it though, they are what they are and there's very little you can do about it.

woodencoffeetable · 07/02/2020 08:07

that's right. apart from offering a good varied diet and encouraging exercise, preferably outside, it's genetic.
if worried ask male relative about their puberty, if they were mostly late starters then I wouldn't worry.

klh99 · 07/02/2020 11:30

My son is 13 and is 5 foot 9. He's grown a lot in the last year, at least 4 inches. A few of his good friends are much smaller so I really wouldn't worry just yet.
My nephew was tiny until the age of 15 and yet is now a 5 foot 10 17 year old.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 07/02/2020 11:37

I don’t know exactly but ds1 was taller than me at 13 and I’m 5ft 11. Ds 2 has always been a bit taller than him.
We are a tall family though though my bit are considered the short ones. My cousin is 6ft7

Oldraver · 07/02/2020 13:23

DS is just turned14 and is now 5'5", he must of grown about 3" in the last year

He's got threw several new lots of trousers

Techway · 07/02/2020 13:35

What has been his percentile on the growth charts? That has always been a pretty reliable indicator to see if they are on track to their predicted height. You can get the WHO charts online.

This is the chart for boys - on the far right side there’s a chart to compare mum and dads height ...for some reason Dads height seems to have more impact ... I’m on a much higher percentile than my husband - my kids are on track to be the same height as their dad !

exexpat · 07/02/2020 14:03

You are a little taller than average for women, your DH is shorter than most men, so if you average it out, your DS will most likely be a fraction taller than his dad but still a bit below average male height - or at least that's the pattern I tend to see when looking at my friends and their DCs (now mostly late teens or adult so fully grown). Children these days are generally well nourished so often end up a little taller than their parents.

FWIW, DH was 5'8ish, I am 5'5ish, but DS turned out to be bang on 6ft, which is a bit taller than I was expecting. DD is about 5'6.

woodencoffeetable · 07/02/2020 14:10

the 'easy' formula for adult height in our red book was:
add mum's and dad's height and divide by 2. add 2 inches for boys and deduct 2 inches for girls.

another indicator is the height of a boy at 24 months x 2 (girl at 18 months)

both are not accurate but might give an indication.

MrsD0147 · 07/02/2020 14:11

At the start of high school my younger brother was always super self conscious as he was loads smaller than a lot of his friends (who all seemed to be quite tall). He has just turned 30 and is 6 foot 5 Smile

nex18 · 07/02/2020 23:49

Mine is 14 next month and around 5’6 or 7, just a smidge shorter than his big sister and a lot taller than me. I reckon he’s in the middle of his friends, lots are a similar height but some are 6inches taller or 6 inches shorter. He’s quite skinny at the moment, I think he’s been stretched!

Titsywoo · 07/02/2020 23:58

Ds is 13 next week and is already 5ft 5. Im 5ft 3 and dh is 5ft 10. Ds has stayed on 91st centile for several years which would put him at an adult height of 6ft which seems a lot since dh and i are not tall.
