What are you getting your teens for Xmas?

Quite early but like to start early. Ds has asked for an iPhone 11 which is definitely not happening as the price is extortionate. What are you getting your teens for Xmas as I really have no clue. He has an iPhone 6s right now.

New cricket bag, new squash racket, golf balls, air pods, piano music, funky socks, fun stationery, FAKE fur cushions for her bed (to match the FAKE fur throw birthday present)

SleepyKat · 21/10/2019 17:30

Wow, didn’t realise you could still buy items where animals Such as foxes have been skinned for fur. Thought it had all been banned like the ivory trade.

TeenPlusTwenties · 21/10/2019 18:32

I'm guessing the acceptance of real fur may be cultural. If I am recalling Pinkyyy correctly, she comes from a group which often has different cultural norms.

Pinkyyy · 21/10/2019 19:02

@SleepyKat you can definitely still buy real furs, not just fox either. Moncler and Canada goose both use real fur.

You're right @TeenPlusTwenties but I didn't realise fur wasn't accepted widely? I know there's a lot of people who disagree but thought it was 50/50.

TeenPlusTwenties · 21/10/2019 19:15

If I had to guess I'd have thought non-fur : fur would be more like 95%-5%, though of course that could well be the circles I move in.

smartiecake · 21/10/2019 20:05

I agree i would think real fur would be totally unacceptable. I have a teenage son and he and his friends - mixture of boys and girls- would be utterly horrified at the thought of anyone wearing real fur. They would rather be at a PETA protest march. That's why you have had a few queries and some raised eyebrows Pinkyy.

Becles · 21/10/2019 20:19

Roller skates and roller blades respectively

Pinkyyy · 21/10/2019 20:21

That's really surprising, I'm pretty much of the opinion that if I'm happy for animals to be killed for me to eat, then it would make me a hypocrite to be against fur. But I know there is some really nasty stuff that goes on in the fur trade so I completely respect anyone's choice to be against it.

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 21/10/2019 20:27

I haven't heard anyone say they own or would want to own anything made of fur since maybe the 1970s.

VerbenaGirl · 21/10/2019 20:30

Billie Eilish tickets, cosy PJs and stuff from Lush.

dancemom · 21/10/2019 20:32

I've managed to order a music stand, Bluetooth headphones and an afternoon tea voucher. So I guess I've officially started 🙌🏼

It would be a hell no for anything fox fur for my dd and any of her friends. Visco girls through and through 😆

Cupola · 21/10/2019 20:33

Cold, hard cash

MoonshineScarelet · 21/10/2019 20:50

2x DD 14 & 16
Getting them both air pods, eldest wants new trainers, younger timberlands.
Then just small little bits like socks etc

Bouledeneige · 21/10/2019 21:22

Totally shocked by real fur. I thought everyone thought it was revolting. I can't imagine anyone round my way wearing it. Round here it would be 100:0 not 50:50. You'd risk someone pouring paint over you!
Factory farming x 1 million.

Pinkyyy · 21/10/2019 21:30

I've worn it my whole life and never had paint thrown on me. In fact most people I know wear it. Out of interest, are you vegetarians?

Thehagonthehill · 21/10/2019 21:39

DD has decided she wants her ears pierced so it will be that and a pair of white gold studs.
So apart from a stocking that's it from me and Santa.
Hopefully her Dad will remember to buy something this year.

Willow2017 · 21/10/2019 21:46

In fact most people I know wear it. Out of interest, are you vegetarians

No just against wild animals kept in cages barely big enough to stand in and tortured till they are big enough to gas just for thier fur.

Watch this Pinkyyy I dare you.

TeenPlusTwenties · 21/10/2019 21:47

No not vegetarian!
I think the anti-fur thing is you shouldn't kill an animal just to wear its fur.
Now obviously foxes can be viewed as pests so they get killed anyway.

If I saw someone wearing fur I'd just assume it was fake to be honest.

BellsaRinging · 21/10/2019 21:52

ds is getting the currently bargainous sprocket and some paper for it, some band merch, a hoodie. He will also get the usual pants, a book, orange, some choc money and sweets. Am considering an anime based present. Think all of us are getting theatre tix-ideally for Hamilton some time in the NY. He's 15.

Pinkyyy · 21/10/2019 21:53

@Willow2017 watched and it's awful but just like in the meat trade, there will always be bad sources.

@TeenPlusTwenties interesting, what do you think the difference is between being killed for food and for clothing? If anything I'd have thought clothing was better since it's a long life product, not just something someone can eat once.

zenasfuck · 21/10/2019 21:54

Ds, 16 is off to New York for a week with college so that has to be a Xmas gift as it's 1000 pound

He'll also get designer jeans, Nike trainers and a couple of hoodies, some aftershave and his stocking with silly bits in

titchy · 21/10/2019 21:56

You can source humanely reared and slaughtered meat though, at least in the U.K. you can't with animals bred purely for their fur.

TSSDNCOP · 21/10/2019 22:04

I call bullshit on the fur coat for tween. No way that goes to a party and comes back intact.

An Apple Watch but with a 50/50 contribution from his savings.

I'm googling the bath light and the electric blanket.

Pinkyyy · 21/10/2019 22:06

@TSSDNCOP call it what you want, not sure why I'd have to prove it to you. And why would she wear it to a party?

milliefiori · 21/10/2019 22:06

DS2 has asked for a pair of Doc Martens which I'm very happy to get him. DS1 hasn't asked for anything yet so I'm not sure.
They are getting close to the age of leaving home, so I'm thinking of getting stuff that will be useful when they do, like a sandwich maker or mini fridge.
