The rule has always been that devices go on the landing so as not to disturb sleep --or go on Snapchat all night- -

Recently 15 year old ds is really struggling with tiredness, big bags under his eyes , moody and snappy etc. I've made a huge effort to ensure he's in bed by 10 otherwise he would be still batting around at half past midnightHmm this is totally in line with most of his friends' bedtimes so he's not hard done by despite what he saysWink

I've just been cleaning his room- he knew I was planning on doing it today but as he was late leaving for school AGAIN I presume he forgot to hide his spare phone complete with ear buds as it was on his bed.

Ffs no wonder he has been so knackered if he's on that until all hoursHmmAngry

What would you do if this was your son so I can plan what to do?

I want to go batshit crazy as he's been horrendous to live with as he's been so snappy and tired but obviously won't do that...yet.

Meadows my dd slept very well. that's truly wonderful. But I was just pointing out an alternative opinion.

AnyFucker · 17/10/2016 19:18

He sounds just like my 16yo

Devious sod

Take his second phone too. Don't rise to the drama. Ignore yells of "you are ruinniiiiiiiing my liiiiiiiife" and stick to your guns

I agree 10pm is a bit early though. I would insist the rules are phones switched off at 11pm during the week. Mine used to drive me mad with the bloody pinging notifications which he "needed" to hear so he could keep up with his mates in a group chat. Yeah, bog off sunshine.

Your options re the router are to get another router/wireless access point so one is the main router for the computers/devices you want to leave on, the other one you can cut off at night.

Or if your router supports it, you can apply time limitations based on the devices MAC address. Log into your router's admin page and see what it offers.

We have 2 wifi networks, Dh is in IT but we don't use it for cutting access (yet)

Have a google or post on Geeky stuff board.

This is absolutely mental.

AnyFucker · 17/10/2016 23:02

What's mental about it ?l

Rumtopf · 17/10/2016 23:14

Why is it mental?
We have similar rules for our dd - phone on charge in the lounge every evening, up in her room by 9 and lights out by 10 during the week.
She thought she could be clever and use an old iPod touch to go online on the wifi. There was no drama I just locked down the router to stop her phone, tablet and this iPod from going online after 9pm.

maldini · 18/10/2016 07:51

They're 15.

Rumtopf · 18/10/2016 08:38

Tbf my dd is 13, but my point still stands. She has to be up at 6am every day for school, less than 8 hrs sleep a night and she's a nightmare. If she can't moderate herself then it's my job to do it for her until she can.

AnyFucker · 18/10/2016 09:11

Any insight as to why you think this scenario is "mental" then ?

user1476656305 · 18/10/2016 09:16

honestly - two phones, one cheap and basic and the other a smart phone , for me screams 'weed dealing'. I am sure I am not the first to say this. All the boys who deal weed in this town have two phones. They call the cheaper one the 'trap phone'.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 18/10/2016 09:19

No, he's not dealing weed. Most of the teens I know have a couple of phones because they've upgraded or like a 'spare brick' as the battery life is better. I have a couple, I'm not dealing weed.

If he's a dealer he's a pretty crap one if he's in bed for 10pm! I thought OP said the 'burner' phone too many movies didn't have a similar and just used for apps and music?

NorbertDentressangle · 18/10/2016 09:24

lol at the jump from Pinterest to weed dealing Grin

user1476656305 · 18/10/2016 09:28

dont get upset I am just saying that the majority of 16 year old boys who have a smart fone and a cheap fone are dealing weed. Of course your boy might be the exception but in general there is no other reason for it.

gammatron · 18/10/2016 09:39

Change the router password, don't give him the new password but input it into the devices he's allowed access to!

LetitiaCropleysCookbook · 18/10/2016 09:43

The reason for the op's son's 2nd phone is likely to be that he thought the op didn't know about it (she didn't, till recently), and so he wouldn't have to put it on the landing with all the others, isn't it?

maldini · 18/10/2016 09:50

Yes anyfucker I just said why it is. But thank you for your persistence.

Lol at pp suggesting dealing weed, just because a teenager has two phones doesn't mean they are a drug dealer. Jesus Christ.

user1476656305 · 18/10/2016 09:52

I am just saying it is a possibility no need to jump on it. obviously OP knows her son best.

ohforfoxsake · 18/10/2016 09:55

Bit tricky to deal weed with a SIM-less phone.

user1476656305 · 18/10/2016 10:04

OK well that was said later wasnt it?
Honestly why is everyone so touchy ?
yes that is very often the reason for having two phones, esp at that age, OP has said that this is not the case, and that the fone doesnt have a SIM, but some people just cannot move on can they? Hmm

Lweji · 18/10/2016 10:27

Maybe he uses smoke signals instead.

Lweji · 18/10/2016 10:30

Or he "screams 'weed dealing'".
And I quote from userwhatevernumber.

Saucery · 18/10/2016 10:58

My DS was carrying round 3 phones on a walk the other week. A cheapy one with a great battery life, a SIM-less one that has Pokemon loaded on it and a borrowed iPhone as that was the only one with any signal in the godforsaken middle of nowhere we had dragged him to.
I did wonder what the trail of suspicious characters was doing behind us. I assumed they were also looking for Pokemon but perhaps they were waiting for him to offer them some drugs. Shock
