I am looking for a surrogate, but dont know where the cheapest place to start is.

Careful OP, surrogacy is not well regarded on MN.

I know someone who was a surrogate. I think she contacted a surrogacy service and went from there. The little girl is about two now and lives happily with her two dads. My friend receives regular updates and has visited them a few times.

I think the cheapest way to buy a baby from its mum would probably be a developing nation, where women are even more easily coerced into this through total desperation, poverty and trafficking. Surrogacy slavery happens in this country too of course (see link below), but at least there are laws against it here.

Cheap is definitely a good word to use when talking about buying a baby and exploiting a poor woman’s body

well done you.

TwentyTwoLizards · 27/09/2026 13:49

The buying, selling and procurement of organs is illegal in every country in the world, apart from Iran. I’m not sure why that is. I think that in Iran a kidney goes for around $5000 and you would need to pay for at least one year’s medical insurance for the donor. You could probably commission a baby more cheaply than that anywhere in the world and not even be in any way responsible for the mother’s health or well-being afterwards (or even during pregnancy), which is a great bonus for cost saving x

AgnesX · 27/09/2026 13:51

You are kidding aren't you.

If there's any question to be asked it should be about the best place....as in a healthy, legal baby.

EmpressStorm · 27/09/2026 13:54

I am not against surrogacy when the mother is making an informed decision, hut looking for the cheapest option as your starting point isn’t really acceptable.

WhatDoRacoonsSay · 27/09/2026 13:56

Go to any third world country, then coerce a woman, so you can buy their baby.
Marvellous.

DorotheaShottery · 27/09/2026 13:56

I've just seen this thread in active. I didn't know there was a surrogacy board on MN.

Jesus wept!

RobinEllacotStrike · 27/09/2026 13:57

Surrogacy is human trafficking.

look to developing nations where poor women may be economically desperate & turn to surrogacy where they will be easier to exploit. therefore you can buy their bodies and babies more cheaply.

MellowSubmarine · 27/09/2026 13:59

Morality of surrogacy aside, is “cheap” what you want to look for here?

Callcat · 27/09/2026 14:00

Not sure of the cheapest way to traffic a human is sorry. Try buying one from the third world?

RaininSummer · 27/09/2026 14:01

How grim.

It's a bit of a minefield I should imagine. I don't think it would be wise to go down this route in the UK.

What for? I think many people want to buy a human baby for as little money as possible. They may not admit it so openly in real life, so isn’t it helpful for those people to post this on an internet forum instead?

BillieWiper · 27/09/2026 14:14

Find a vulnerable person who desperately needs money and offer to rent their reproductive organs? 🫥

BloodyRoses · 27/09/2026 14:22

Ffs. Hoping you dont find this 'cheap place' and we stop renting out wombs.

EmpressStorm · 27/09/2026 14:45

Some of the hysteria is a little unwarranted. It’s like people are competing for the most hyperbolic response.

many surrogates are not vulnerable. An acquaintance of mine did it. She could not have babies, the price she paid was over 400k and was in the USA, the woman was far from vulnerable and this was a lifestyle choice she made, she enjoyed helping women, liked being pregnant, had had her kids, and liked the money for a years work. She was also hugely pampered throughout with everything paid for. From weekly massages to her groceries, and transportation and all medical bills paid for.

as much as I wouldn’t wish to do it myself. Pretending these are all vulnerable women is ridiculous. Many women do this through choice.

i don’t beleive she bought a baby or it was trafficked. It was not the woman’s egg, it was my acquaintances and her husband sperm. I believe she did rent a woman’s womb for nine months who was very happy to provide that service and I can say the child is very much loved, but it is their child. Not the woman’s.

ExceptionalDog · 27/09/2026 14:48

Rage bait! 🙄

American women might get paid more than Thai/Ukrainian/Indian women and it might make buyers feel better about the process to think they are paying above the odds but a) the agency takes most of that b) the US has almost no social welfare, employment rights or accessible healthcare for those on low incomes so it's hardly less exploitative to pay an American poor woman to sell you a baby than a woman from the developing world.

And in any case the OP specifically wants a cheap option.

How does the 4th trimester work?

The irony of using the slur “hysterical “ when criticising women who find the procurement of women’s wombs to satisfy a desire abhorrent.

How will the baby/child cope in the future having been taking from their mother at birth?
Do you know that it causes trauma, does your friend?

How does the 4th trimester work?

Just like it does for any other new born whose mother isn’t available, be it through death or illness, or adoption. they immediately snuggle to the non biological parent, although it’s arguable if the surrogate is the biological parent or not her egg, and have no recollection of whose womb they were in, and the woman who birthed recovers naturally, as long as the baby is cared for and loved they immediately think the person doing it is their parent. Just like say an animal that’s raised by humans,
