Smoking to vaping?

Foxbox · 06/06/2018 11:33

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

You're more than welcome. I just really want people to give up smoking, I was astonished how easy it has been to vape instead.

FoxBox · 01/07/2018 11:53

Yes,there's no way I'd have got this far without vaping and this thread. I know others feel the same. I feel hopeful for this being a sustainable change! It's really helpful to read how many people have done it and managed to stick at it!

I’m having a lot of cravings today, first ones in a few days, making me grumpy but I’m
not going to give in. Chain vaping instead, nearly run out of my current favourite (glacier), hoping some more will arrive tomorrow. It’s 20% so I don’t think I am
craving nicotine, just an actual cigarette. Tomorrow will be day 14 so no way am I giving in at this stage. But arghghhhhh I want a fag!!!

FoxBox · 01/07/2018 18:16

Aww dogs,
Well done for pushing through and your determination to not give in. I think days like today are our brains rebelling as they realise we mean business about the new normal we've committed to. You're doing great for staying strong 💪
2 weeks tomorrow is amazing! Grumpiness and cravings I think come and go in waves, remember it will pass...
I've ordered some glacier in your recommendation. I've run out of moriyas mix so ordered some more of that too.
Hope you can give yourself a treat for doing so well and be kind to yourself while it feels tough. It's a big deal but you've definitely got this.
I, like Luna, had a 'dream smoke' last night. I think it's the brain kicking back again!

Day 14 today! I’m very excited to have made it to two weeks! No dream smoking yet, maybe it’s still to come, amazing what our brains will do to tempt us back
to smoking. I hope you like glacier
fox, I have ordered 2 x 3 packs of it. It is also nice with some moriya’s mixed in with it. I’m currently using brain freeze but it is disappointing compared with glacier imo.

Smoke free for 7years now. Went to vaping for 18months on lowest nicotine level then cold turkey. First 3weeks smoke to vaping was tough but then I preferred it to smoking. Going cold turkey from vaping is a lot easier then going cold turkey from cigs. Can't recommend it enough x

Tuttytoffee · 02/07/2018 08:56

Funnily I was thinking about how hard it would be to stop the vape once you've gotten yourself down the the lowest nicotine. That might be a long time away for me but I'm ok with that. How is everyone getting on side effects wise. I seem to only cough now and again. I've broken out in terrible spots. This could be hormone related though?. I'm doing great the passed few days cravings wise. Been really easy dare I say it!. Well done 4dogs on making it to 2 weeks. Pat on the back. I'm actually starting to think about what I could treat myself to as a well done for stopping. I'm not seeing any money saved yet. It's a wonder how I actually managed to afford to smoke!. I'm thinking a nice pair of earrings!

Tuttytoffee · 02/07/2018 08:59

I tried my vanilla custard again yesterday and it's lovely! Not burnt my coil out so far either. I will finish this off today and then I still have a few to use up before I go shopping again. I will stock up on blueberry and vimto I think. I've got lots if 18mg here too that I won't be using i don't think. Unless I buy a lower nicotine in the same flavour and dilute them? I wonder if that's possible?

Jins · 02/07/2018 09:35

Yes it's possible to dilute them but if it's just a small amount then I'd just keep them for days where you need a bit more. I'm mostly on 6 or 12mg but have a couple of 18mg just in case.

I have no intention of giving up vaping and I'm not reducing my nicotine levels in a planned way either. I don't see it as a way to wean myself off nicotine. I like nicotine and I'm happy from my research that nicotine isn't my enemy. I'll continue doing what I'm doing indefinitely.

FoxBox · 02/07/2018 10:19

Congrats on 2 weeks dogs! Smile

That's good to hear Moominfan. We love a success story here! Interesting how it's easier to come off the vape cold turkey. Did you start on a lower nicotine level or taper down from higher over time?

I'm undecided about what I'll do in the long run yet, not sure. But I am wondering wether to drop down a nicotine level just because I was ok on the 11mg stuff I had last week along with a bit of 18mg when I felt I needed it. I was enjoying the flavour so I went for the lower.

I'm not concerned about the nicotine in itself either, as in it's not that harmful. I don't like being so dependent on anything though and that panic when I haven't got it. I like the idea of feeling free of that but it's no way realistic for me anytime soon! I'll just keep taking it a day at a time for now I think.

Tutty- I've had a bit of what feels like a cold over the last few days. Nothing terrible but a bit of a cough and phelgmy. I haven't been coughing anything up. My spots have gone for now. I'm getting some aches around the bottom of my lungs, I guess it's all my body adjusting.
Good news your custard liquid is behaving in your vape. I think it's really important to have something you like. Also good news you've got through the last few days ok- long may it last!

I've had a tougher couple of days. The difference I've noticed is that I get through it without considering caving in which is great news I think!

New earrings sounds like a lovely idea for a treat.

Hope everyone has a good day Smile

If you have sweet coil burning liquids I've found it helps to hit the button for a short while then keep inhaling for a second or two. Seems to drag the liquid through and stop the vape dry hitting.

bigfishlittlefishtupperwarebox · 02/07/2018 12:24

Where are you all getting your liquids from? I've only got some from the local shop so far, I don't know which websites are reliable?
I ended up in hospital overnight on Saturday with my toddler, the doctor just laughed when she was taking our histories and asked if I am a smoker and I answered that I'd quit on Monday... typical timing! Anyway, I'm thinking if I can get through that without wanting a real cigarette I can get through anything!

4dogs · 02/07/2018 14:43

Hope your toddler is ok now Bigfish. Sounds like you had a very stressful time, you’re right, if you can get through that cigarette free you can cope with anything. I get my juice from here www.vapeclub.co.uk. Olivander put me onto it and they have a really good search by flavour thing.

Jins · 02/07/2018 15:17

Rejuiced aren't bad and good prices. They have a half price juice of the week

Nat6999 · 02/07/2018 15:34

I've been vaping for just over two years now, never smoked much, more of a social smoker. I started vaping because I've got ME/CFS & Fibromyalgia, I vape CBD mixed with my vape juice to manage my pain & reduce the amount of strong painkillers I take. My kit is an Ijoy Genie Mod with a Freemax Fireluke tank, I started on a Pen ecig & then moved up to an Innokin Coolfire 4 before getting what I use now, I buy my juice from a vape stall at my local market, I buy more expensive juice sometimes, but use this as a treat at weekends.

Moominfan · 02/07/2018 23:17

Thanks fox. Not sure what the levels were. When I vaped it was shaped like a cig with a screw on part that needed replacing. Then went to another model which had 3 strengths before nicotine free and just flavour. I was on the lowest and the plan was to go nicotine free and the thing just broke. Decided to take my chance and just go cold turkey. I really visualised myself as smoke/vape free and when I had cravings instead of ignoring I'd just sit there and feel it until it passes. Furthest I got with cigs was two months then I'd give in to cravings

FoxBox · 03/07/2018 00:31

Hope everyone's had a good day Smile

I've just hit 18 days fag free! The longer I go, the more I think it's not an option to turn back now.
I'm still struggling with people smoking around me (especially at work) I stare at them and would always prefer the fag they've got but I'm getting used to knowing I'll get through it by vaping and reminding myself in the moment why I'm doing this. Someone said earlier in this thread that 'it's good enough' That's become my mantra!

bigfish
I agree with dogs if you can get through that, you can get through anything. Big test of your commitment to this and you smashed it!! Hope you're proud of yourself. Also hope that LO is feeling better. Very stressful for all of you.

I've followed Olivander and dogs to vape club for liquids. I do also like to go into my local vape shop, because they're very helpful and supportive, I like to support them and they do a 20% off loyalty card for liquids. Will also now check out rejuiced on Jin's recommendation!

Nat
Good to hear your story Smile thank you, it helps us newbies to hear how well other people have done. Glad the CBD is helping, great that it reduces the pain. I have a friend who vapes it to help with her MS, she finds it really helps too.
Hope you're managing ok in this heat, I know it can be tough with CFS/FM

Moomin
That's really good to hear. I love your use of visualisation and feeling the craving instead of ignoring it. We've been talking here about re-training our brains and your very mindful approach sounds powerful. Thanks for sharing that with us, inspiring stuff.

Thanks all. I honestly think I'm really done with smoking now, I really can't say it feels any different so that's great. DD still not right so off to the docs today. Hope everyone has a great day.

Jins · 03/07/2018 09:56

I should also mention vapeinc who have a fair range of products in the clearance section. There's a discount code on planet of the vapes (which is worth joining)

Dinner Lady - of lemon tart fame - have some lovely flavours but they are high vg and low nicotine for cloud chasers. Still worth trying.

I used to use vapegoo but haven't for a while because I mix my own. They have loads of flavours and are very well priced.

Bestcigliquid do some lovely flavours. I use the concentrates but they have a range that you can add nicotine shots to.

You won't get higher than 6mg with shortfills though wherever you look so if you need higher nicotine levels in ready made liquid then you're restricted to buying 10ml bottles.

4dogs · 04/07/2018 11:40

Day 16 for me today🙂. Still can’t stop eating sweets, crisps and cake. On holiday beginning of August and have a huge tummy now. Part of my brain is telling me to just start smoking again and be my usual thin self but that’s not going to happen. It would be dreadful to give up on giving up now! Today is a one hour at a time day whereas other days it hasn’t bothered me much. I will be chain vaping today I think!

Tuttytoffee · 04/07/2018 15:52

Dogs I've had days like this too. You've just gotta try and power through. I've been eating a lot also. While I'm slim most places, my belly looks like it's carrying a child. I'm 're joining slimming world tonight to get me eating healthy. I have about a stone to lose as it is so I don't want that to get higher. Plus the doctor had me in yesterday telling me that my bloods are showing I'm borderline diabetic! Need to be good! Actually thinking about trying to go for a run one day. Haven't ran since school. Hope your day isn't too bad!

4dogs · 04/07/2018 16:58

Thanks tutty, i have got through the worst of today, I’m not so bad late afternoon/evening. Sorry to hear you are borderline diabetic, I feel that now we have stopped smoking we should be immune to all illnesses/medical conditions! At least you are taking control of it by going to slimming world. Running sounds dire to me. I’ve been walking a lot more than usual thanks to
pokemon go but I don’t think running is for me. My tummy also looks pregnant, maybe I will have a cake baby?!

4dogs · 04/07/2018 16:59

Also I thought skin was meant to get better when we stopped smoking so why
have I got pimples?

Jins · 04/07/2018 17:46

You're detoxing from tobacco and it shows in your skin. Give it another couple of weeks and you will see improvements. Give it a few months and you'll be amazed how your teeth look as well.

The best bit is that your lungs will also be improving

Tuttytoffee · 04/07/2018 17:52

Yes dogs I am also covered in spots. I actually look terrible at the minute. I need some me time I think! Running has never been something I've wanted to do as I know how out of breath I get from just walking up the stairs. I'm curious to see how I'd manage now that it feels so much easier to breath. I used to walk up the stairs and get into bed and my DP would say "Your breathing in awful" I sounded terrible! Not anymore! 💃🏻
