Smoking to vaping?

Has anyone succeeded in swapping smoking for vaping?
I can't stand how addicted to cigarettes I am, I wake every morning in panic about my health.
I just can't seem to get myself to stop! In fact the more I think about it, the more I smoke!
I was thinking trying to switch to vaping might be an idea?
Has anyone managed this? Any tips?
Thank you

Its normally cheaper, but harder to carry around. I subohm so I go through a lot, and only at 3mg which is what the short fills are perfect for. Depending on what you're currently using (pg/vg ratio, device, mg) it may not be better for you.

4dogs · 22/06/2018 14:49

I am laughing at Luna trying to get some
secondhand smoke! I can imagine me
doing the same. My day is going ok
so far. I think I’m vaping a bit less, I chain vape for a bit but there are now gaps inbetween. I’m still liking the menthol vape and have some more on order. I feel quite a distance between me and cigarettes right now, don’t think i can word it properly but I feel different about them to how I felt a few days’ ago. Not sure I feel like a proper non smoker tho, dunno why, early days but I feel like if I can do 4 days I can do forever, probably because I have never even done one day without in the past! I must be careful not to get complacent tho or they might sidle back in!

Foxbox · 22/06/2018 14:56

Oh ok, thanks for that. I'll probably stick to my little bottles of 18mg for now I think. Keep it simple for now!

Luna great to hear you're doing so well and don't want a fag! I know what you mean about other people doing it and the smell though 😂
Hope the cough doesn't last too long...
Loving your positivity here btw. It's inspiring!
I'm this far through day 8, bit of a better day than yesterday thankfully. When I think of having a fag I think how far I've come and that it'd be a shame to go backwards. Although I also know it's not the end of the world if I do slip up.
How's everyone else getting on today?

Bit late to the party but I did it too Smile 4 years in October!

Love my vape and can't imagine ever wanting a stinky cancer stick again.

Keep going OP you are doing fab!

Foxbox · 22/06/2018 15:26

That's great Cricketmum!
Hope you're really proud of yourself- that's a long time smoke free Grin

4dogs I've just seen your update. Don't know how I manage to miss posts on here Confused
Anyway, great to hear you're doing so well. Really good news- huge achievements!
I also find it a bit weird to see myself as a non smoker, I guess it's an identity we've had a long time. I'm hoping that one day we'll just realise we're vapers now and be ok with that. You're doing great Smile

Love the thing about feeling the distance between you and fags btw 4dogs. I can relate to that, got to be a good sign hasn't it, distance gained?

That's a great sign, dogs. You're doing so well! I honestly was a bit disappointed that couldn't smell it. Such a weirdo! Lol. Fox, I'm glad I can bring something to the table, as I said before, I feel a bit fraudulent as I realise now I wasn't really a proper smoker! Though, before I had my youngest, I definitely smoked more. I would have two rollies on my walk to pick up the big one from school! I have a bit of an obsessive personality, so I think me getting obsessed with the lovely sweetie flavours is helping! Didn't even entertain the tobacco flavoured ones. I definitely recommend them, maybe you will find it more enjoyable with something a bit tastier?
Have we heard from tutty today?

Tuttytoffee · 22/06/2018 22:58

Evening all! All is well with me. Come 8.55am tomorrow I will not have had a fag in 1 whole week. Actually can't quite believe I've done it. I've had a few moments today we're I've gone into the kitchen to grab a fag and then remembered actually, I don't smoke any more. Then my mind tries to talk me into having one. I'm obviously ignoring it and I know I'm just trying to rationalise having one. I think I can actually do this as long as it doesn't get any harder than this as I've had a trying week so far and not reached for one. I'm also coughing up some nasty stuff but then I have been for months anyway. Especially of a morning. This is one of the reasons I wanted to stop. Seeing my nan cough her guts up every morning and on 24 hour a day oxygen should of put me off at age 14 but it never did. Well done to us all! Bring on another day 👏👏

Tuttytoffee · 22/06/2018 23:01

I would of had nearly 140 fags from Saturday until now. I actually can't believe that £72 in a week 😣 That should be enough to put me off starting again. I could be paying off a Florida holiday with that money!

LoonyLuna · 22/06/2018 23:06

Ooh, tutty, I had my last cig at about 9am last Saturday too! Big well done to you for ignoring the tricksy cigarette callings! You're smashing it!

Foxbox · 22/06/2018 23:39

Fantastic news! Well done Tutty. I really admire how you've just jumped in there and gone for it with this. I also love how you take control of your thoughts and don't let them get the better of you. You're made of very strong stuff! 💪
So 1 week for you and Luna in the morning 🎉
I think it'll be 5 days for 4dogs? 🎉
9 days for me!
I can't believe it either! I feel like someone should be turning up to give us all a medal soon! Go us!!

I'm currently sat with my whitening trays in! My present to myself when I quit was zoom teeth whitening Grin

Foxbox · 23/06/2018 00:45

Sounds fab Ollivander! I love the idea of whiter, unstained teeth- I'm really looking forward to that!
Also really like the idea of treats for not smoking Smile

Yeah it was a really nice thing to get done as a reward
Although my poor dentist Grin (for background I hate going and was a v v nervous patient)

Dentist "you still smoking" < starts to type 30 a day as usual >
"No. I quit"
Dentist HmmConfusedShock
"Also can I have whitening done?"
"Hang on. You've QUIT smoking and you are volunteering to have dental work? Where is my patient?"
He still looks at me suspiciously like I've got a better behaved clone
Grin

Tuttytoffee · 23/06/2018 07:42

Morning. It'll be a week today I haven't smoked for. Once you've done a week and looking back it wasn't too bad, it would be very silly to light up again now wouldn't it?! It probably helps me that I'm not a drinker much, on on social occasions. They don't come around often with 4 DC 🤣 Think that will be my final test though. Although I don't feel like a non smoker yet, I think I'm going to tell myself I am. Mind over matter and all that. Someone in work asked me for a light yesterday and I told them I don't smoke sorry. Felt like a new woman 💃🏻 I moved onto 12mg yesterday and ive felt ok. Not much cravings at all. Feel like I can taste the flavours a bit better now.

GrumpyOldMare · 23/06/2018 08:14

For those of you that like tobacco flavour juices,I recommend [[https://manabush.com/Manabush] I've used them for years, won't use any other tobacco flavours.

Wow everyone is doing so well! This is day 5 for me, I did reach for a cigarette when I came downstairs but it was just a small
reflex action which surprised me. I’m happily puffing on my vape now. I’m not actually saving any money because I had a couple of kg of home grown tobacco from
Bulgaria! I still have a great big tub full in my wardrobe! I am craving a cigarette right now but I know it will pass, I’m not backing out on quitting at this stage. I agree FoxBox someone should give us medals!

Foxbox · 23/06/2018 10:20

Ollivander 😂🤣 That's hilarious! How satisfying to be able to say that too!

Tutty It would be very silly to light up again now wouldn't it?! Yes! That's what I'm telling myself too. I think you're an expert brain trainer!

GrumpyOldMare great, thanks. I might order their 'Connoisseur's pack' to try them out. Although, I think I'm going to have to watch myself- I do keep ordering things! (Another spare vape, tank, coils, various liquids from different sites...)Hmm like Luna, I think it's the obsessive part of me Shock Hence me not saving any money yet either!

4dogs that's fab! I'm also craving but not panicking about it or giving in. Vaping away and know it will pass. I really do think it's a sign we've cracked it...Smile

I'm beginning to wonder if I still want to carry my tobacco around with me. I think it's losing it's appeal as a comfort thing...we'll see.

We've all come such a long way!! Feeling so proud of us! Have a great Saturday vapers Smile

Yes i stopped smoking about 3 years ago, didnt even vape, but stopped with Champix, save around £2000 now, only smoked about 10 a day, but last year decided to by an E cig. as under a lot of stress, and temped to buy cigs
The only problem now is im, addicted to vaping, i use mentho;l as that is what i smoked,

PencilsInSpace · 23/06/2018 10:44

What a wonderful thread!

I switched almost 5 years ago, also with the help of MNers on threads like this. I started smoking when I was 12 and it took me over 3 decades to finally quit.

I managed to switch in one day, DH took an entire year to drop the last fag of the day but he got there. There's no wrong way, just keep counting the ones you don't smoke.

Keep going everyone! GrinFlowers

Foxbox · 23/06/2018 11:01

princesstiasmum that's great you went for vaping not smoking when you had a 'relapse' 95% better than going back to smoking... Sounds really tough to quit with Champix from what I've heard. I'm not worrying about being addicted to the vape, just so long as it's not fags! We're all feeling the benefits already. Well done Smile

PencilsInSpace it is wonderful isn't it?! ❤️ I'm so glad I posted here to ask for advice. I never dreamt I'd get all the support I needed to actually make the switch along with a fabulous group of others going through the same thing as me. I honestly think it's saving my life!
It's brilliant to hear about yours and your DH's success too, really encouraging. Also good to hear how different yet still effective the process of switching is for everyone. I love hearing how so many people have quit and stayed quit this way.

So grateful to all the lovely MNers who are part of my life changing journey here Flowers
