FANTASTIC cheap foundation recommendation

I normally spend a lot on foundation (use Lancome or By Terry) and ususally disdain cheap foundation, as (imo) it's all crap.

However, I forgot to take my make up bag to work (I put my face on in the work car park) and as I cannot face the public without make up on, I borrowed a friend's foundation and blusher.

I was expecting to look like an orange mess, but it has lasted all day and I look blooming. Really good colour match (I am very pale and most foundations look orange and vile on me), has lasted without going all chalky and patchy (Estee Lauder Double Wear I am looking at you) and is very good indeed, better than my foundations which cost a bloody fortune.

I am off to Boots to buy it - it's Maybelline 24 hours.

Really recommend it.

what shade did you use

and at putting your face on in the car park

doggiesayswoof · 14/05/2010 16:34

Ooh - thanks

Do you have sensitive skin by any chance?

I am looking for a cheap non-allergenic one (after No7, which is marked hypoallergenic, brought me up in red lumps)

SuSylvester · 14/05/2010 16:34

nothing will tear me away from chanel dahlink

cyb · 14/05/2010 16:34

i dont know why I'm asking, I've just spent the best part of £35 on a Chanel one.

doggiesayswoof · 14/05/2010 16:34

Yep that mascara that was meant to be a cult product a few years back is shit

BessieBoots · 14/05/2010 16:35

Thank GetOrf, I am a bit of a Morticia and tend to look like I've been tangoed with most foundations.

cyb · 14/05/2010 16:35

doggies do you mean Maybelline mascara in the pink and green tube? Was rubbish i agree

SuSylvester · 14/05/2010 16:36

i saw the sunday times beauty awards were sponsoered by clinique

cyteen · 14/05/2010 16:38

I hate Maybelline too, especially that bloody pink and green mascara. Even in their adverts the make up looks shit.

Although am obviously glad you found their base a good product, GetOrf

Longtalljosie · 14/05/2010 16:41

Max Factor lasting performance foundation's bloody good as well.

MayorNaze · 14/05/2010 16:42

i recently discovered that in an emergency, the lightest rimmel concealor is as close as it gets to my poncey warm ivory bobbi brown concealor...and lasts as well...

cyb · 14/05/2010 16:44

lol @ concealer emergency. I carry a 99% finished benefit boi ing concealer in my bag for just such an occasion! Havent had to break the glass yet....

SuSylvester · 14/05/2010 16:45

lol at glass

seh r drole

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/05/2010 16:46

Lol at Sunday Times style awards sponsored by Clinique. No, you would never have guessed.

Shade is 10, or 01, or 001 I can't remember, anyway it has a 1 and a zero in it. What a helpful person I am.

Everyone used to RAVE about that pink and green mascara because you could only buy it in america and Cindy Crawford loved it or something. Then they sold Maybelline in UK, and it turned out to be crap. Emperors new clothes.

Yes I have v sensitive skin. Mind you I have oly had it on several hours. I will probably wake up tomorrow looking like Stephen Hendry circa 1988.

(NB - car park I put make up on in is staff car park and I park under tree, am not exhibitionist make up applicator like those twats you see on buses)

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/05/2010 16:47

Oh I can't stand benefit shite. I can't get past all the twee nonsense packaging.

OP posts:
cyb · 14/05/2010 16:48

PHILOSPHY have the most twee packaging ever

cyb · 14/05/2010 16:49

IT'S BUBBLE BATH ,PEOPLE

MayorNaze · 14/05/2010 16:49

i have teeny tiny beneft mascara in handbag makeup bag, was free in magazine...is ok but a bugger to get off

cyteen · 14/05/2010 16:50

I really hate Benefit too, their packaging is so faux.

[make up hater]

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/05/2010 16:53

Oh what a crock of shite (re philosophy).

I had a look at the Benefot concealer kit in HofF - it looked like good stuff but it was packaged like a fricking Polly Pocket diary.

I love Maybelline lash stiletto mascara. I come back to this every time. It's fantastic.

I agree that pink/green tube one is shit.

I have the Max Factor Colour Adapt foundation, which is a sample 15ml size (30p in Charity Shop) and will buy it when it runs out. It's a bit heavy for now for me though, better for winter.

I'm now using L'Oreal Visible Lift Foundation, a 10ml sample that I got free when I bought the primer recommended on here at Christmas. Again, I will buy it but there's loads left as I don't use much.
