FANTASTIC cheap foundation recommendation

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/05/2010 14:47

I normally spend a lot on foundation (use Lancome or By Terry) and ususally disdain cheap foundation, as (imo) it's all crap.

However, I forgot to take my make up bag to work (I put my face on in the work car park) and as I cannot face the public without make up on, I borrowed a friend's foundation and blusher.

I was expecting to look like an orange mess, but it has lasted all day and I look blooming. Really good colour match (I am very pale and most foundations look orange and vile on me), has lasted without going all chalky and patchy (Estee Lauder Double Wear I am looking at you) and is very good indeed, better than my foundations which cost a bloody fortune.

I am off to Boots to buy it - it's Maybelline 24 hours.

Really recommend it.

sungirltan · 14/05/2010 17:01

cyb · 14/05/2010 17:03

nah its in 2 shades as far as I know, well at least the boi-ing one is. i have shade 2 for when I am fake tanned! Shade one is pale

doggiesayswoof · 14/05/2010 17:05

LOL at Stephen Hendry - do let us know how that goes, getorf

BessieBoots · 14/05/2010 18:37

I love that green and pink tube Maybelline mascara...

Jux · 14/05/2010 19:37

cyb, my friend gave us some of that bath stuff. DD loves it; can't get it anywhere here.

Adair · 14/05/2010 19:42

Oh I love my Maybelline Minerals foundation. Makes me look all airbrushed. Also do Collection 2000 or Max Factor (cheap and pale enough for me).

Rimmel Concealer well, of course!

AuntieMaggie · 14/05/2010 21:15

really? i had a sample of the 24 hour foundation in a mag and i hated it - was really rubbish on my skin!

MsDav · 14/05/2010 22:34

Rimmel sent me a full size bottle of their foundation. It was shit, claimed to be ivory - was actually tangerine so clearly that wouldn't get my vote.

Stila at Debenhams is on sale so does that count as cheap? www.debenhams.com/sale/beauty#ps=default&storeId=10001&sfn=Categories&lid=%2F%2Fproductsuniverse%2Fe nGB%2Fproductonline%3DY%2Fcategories%3C{productsuniversed1sale%2Fcategories%3C{productsuniversed1sale59001}%2Fcategories%3C{productsuniversed1sale5 900177103}%2Fcategories%3C{productsuniversed1sale590017710377114}&catalogId=10001&sfv=Face}

Christ thats a big link

MsDav · 14/05/2010 22:36

Oh arse that didn't even work. Just go to Debenhams, then on the right click offers and then beauty, then face on the left

BustleInYourHedgerow · 14/05/2010 22:46

I use that Maybelline one because I can't afford the Chanel one anymore, and I love it!
Mascara is shite though, tried it as the foundation was so good when trying to find a cheapo replacement for the lancome one.

Found a E6 Avon one after asking buying it off the pushy Avon rep in work. It is the best mascare I have ever used.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 14/05/2010 22:46

SMASHBOX tsv TOMORROW ON qvc PEOPLE

BustleInYourHedgerow · 14/05/2010 22:48

(Just rummaged through twee Benefit makeup bag to find mascara name)

Avon Supershock. I think I will marry it, I makes my yuck and stumpy lashes look huge

hellymelly · 14/05/2010 22:51

Oh I'm going to buy some then.I'm pale too,and I like by terry,so I'm hopeful this will work for me,thanks for the tip!

MrsSchadenfreude · 14/05/2010 22:56

I have Dior Blackout mascara, which I got in goody bag when visiting friend who is editor of fash mag in New York last year. It is great for my tiny stumps but IMPOSSIBLE to remove, even with ver' expensive poncy eye make up remover which was given to me too.

Need new light foundation for summer. Not terribly impressed with Laura Mercier, tho not convinced it is her fault. I think the orange laydee in Selfridges sold me the wrong colour (too light).

Aitch · 14/05/2010 22:57

oh right, now that someone's started this thread... can i HUGELY recommend the barbara daly pot of foundation, can't remember the name but it's got a light reflecting pigment in is, was three pounds off at six quid when i bought it and is actually a very convincing rip off of chantecaille realskin. i promise, i know about these things...

cornsillkwearsclogs · 14/05/2010 23:00

from tesco?

cyb · 14/05/2010 23:03

corny what smashbox stuff do you use?

and did you see the fab colours from nails inc tonight?

Aitch · 14/05/2010 23:05

yy from tesco. honestly, it's great, particularly for summer as it's so light but with good coverage. it's like a little pot of whipped gel with pigment in it.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 14/05/2010 23:07

I've got a few things from a tsv a while ago- some eye shadow/blusher and a primer, some brushes. It's good stuff. I saw the nailsinc stuff but bought two nail kits from there recently, an OPI and a Leighton Denny so have LOADS!

cornsillkwearsclogs · 14/05/2010 23:08

what colour is the pot?

Aitch · 14/05/2010 23:09

clear brushed glass with a black lid. it's just like the chantecaille pot but their lid is silver.

cornsillkwearsclogs · 14/05/2010 23:13

thanks - will look for that

Aitch · 14/05/2010 23:17

i think they only do two pot foundations anyway, have only tried the black lid one. tell you what else is amazing from that range, there's a FANTASTIC clear nail polish that has some weird shit in it that makes your nails look fantastically healthy. goodbye yellow it's called. and her concealers are great. i interviewed her when she first brought the range out and she said she felt she was creating something on a par with clarins and clinique quality, so solidly lower middle of the beauty counter stuff, but for at least half the price.

brimfull · 14/05/2010 23:17

GetOrfMoiLand- have you looked closely at your face.Peered in the rear view mirror?
You don't have cake face do you?
I find the cheapo ones look it close up.
