Has anyone tried on the New Look black £15 maxi dress?

I reeeeally want this and have stroked it in store SO many times, but I just can't bring myself to try it on. It's quite thin tshirt material and I can just imagine it accentuating my lumps and bumps. Am I just being a drama queen and it's actually really flattering, or should I leave it be?

I took it as far as the changing room today then chickened out!

oh just try it on!!!

tulpe · 29/04/2010 12:18

I've been eyeing those up too. They look so effortlessly stylish . However, my biggest fear is that every lump and bump would be exposed.

Am watching this with interest......

cordonbleugh · 29/04/2010 12:19

I have and I bought it! It's lovely - I am 5ft size 16 with a big belly and it's actually quite flattering! it seems to cling in just the right places and skim the rest.

Haven't worn it out yet cos it needs taking up an inch or two, but I can't wait to wear it with flip flops and maybe a belt just under my bust.

Go and buy it!! you can always just buy it and try it on at home, then if you don't like it you can take it back

BessieBoots · 29/04/2010 12:19

Ditto... Looks soooooo good oon the website and on the mannequin (which has no jelly belly...)

MrsMeow · 29/04/2010 12:22

ThreeBlondeBoys, I know, that would answer all my questions, but I'm really not in a good place at the minute when it comes to body issues/confidence in general

Cordonbleugh, thankyou, that's really helpful! I was looking at it and wondering if it would skim over my tum (my problem area - pesky kids!) but it looked quite straight up & down if you know what I mean?

tulpe, yes that's exactly what I thought! You could wear it on the beach or out for dinner, couldn't you?

MrsMeow · 29/04/2010 12:23

BessieBoots, it would be ideal if it came with a built in belly hiding panel

me neither mrs meow.....but at least you can get it for £15...i have to buy the tall range which is almost double the price!! £28....

i just know if i leave it til i'm ready, then they will have sold out!

TrillianAstra · 29/04/2010 12:26

Link to theone you're all talking about pls? Is it the vest-shaped one? I wasn't very impressed with the neckline/top bit.

cordonbleugh · 29/04/2010 12:29

believe me - I have a jelly belly of epic proportions! It's hard to explain, it sort of balances your curves while accentuating them in a good way iyswim.

And yes, it's very versatile, dressed up or down, smart or casual. go oooooon buy it! I'd be wearing it today if it wasn't slightly too long.

cordonbleugh · 29/04/2010 12:30

here trillian

MrsMeow · 29/04/2010 12:31

Yes it is the vest one, here

I just like how simple it looks.

ThreeBlondeBoys, that's a ridiculous price jump! Have you tried the regular one on? It's very long, almost floor length on me but I'm 5'5".

OP posts:
GypsyMoth · 29/04/2010 12:32

no,i might d tomorrow then if its that long. i'm 5 11

DarrellRivers · 29/04/2010 12:34

I tried it on
It clung to everything
Am quite slim but with large bust line at moment (breastfeeding) and it looked awful

MrsMeow · 29/04/2010 12:36

Thanks Darrell, this is what I was thinking. I suppose it all comes down to body shape so I'll have to try it on - I'll go tomorrow and wear my hold it all in pants just in case, then I can trick myself into thinking I'm slim and gorgeous!

cordonbleugh, I hope it looks as flattering on me

Thanks everyone,.

tulpe · 29/04/2010 12:39

I might be brave and order the purple one.....

DarrellRivers · 29/04/2010 12:39

I think that's it
Just be prepared, I thought it was going to look gorgeous, and it is such a bargainous price, but was quite when I looked in the mirror
Mind you NEw Look mirrors are not forgiving

MrsMeow · 29/04/2010 12:47

New Look mirrors are horrendous! And the lighting is very unforgiving as well, it makes me look half dead!

tulpe, I like the purple one as well. It's a nicer colour IRL than on the website.

OP posts:
tulpe · 29/04/2010 12:58

MrsMeow - rather than those "suck your belly in and give you terrible trapped wind in the process" pants, can I recommend these stunners

I think you will agree that they are spectacularly unattractive BUT they give me a smoother silhouette, no VPL and no belly ache when worn

OhCobblers · 29/04/2010 13:16

i have it.
i'm 5"5, size 11-12 , i don't have the right bra for it so wore a strapless one and as they've shrunk due to weightloss i think it looked pretty good on.

i certainly didn't think it looked £15 on once accessorised.

cordonbleugh · 29/04/2010 13:31

mrsmeow - agree with you and others that new look mirrors/lighting etc are awful, so why not buy it, try it on at home and make your mind up then? After all, your mirrors at home are the ones you'll be looking in before you wear it out in public so you'll be able to make a better judgement!

florencepink · 29/04/2010 13:45

it looks nice, shame about the racer back though always makes it a bit more difficult to wear - like the denim jacket though.

I'm only 5' 2". I'm going to look stupid in one, aren't I?

traceybath · 29/04/2010 14:18

I also like everything tried on the oasis one and it was terribly shapeless and yet also clingy - a tremendous feat of design.

I would have thought the new look one would need a belt but would worry it would not be flattering as material too thin.

But let us know!

cordonbleugh · 29/04/2010 14:22

no thehouseofmirth! I'm 2 inches shorter than you and it looks fine! Nicole richie wears a lot of maxi dresses and she's tiny.

I'll probably wear mine with a belt just under my boobs, and the material is not too thin, thicker than a normal t shirt.
