do you fill your eyebrows? Why?

navyeyelasH · 01/04/2010 14:59

I have been watching some makup tutorials and youtube and they always fill their eyebrows. Why is this, what sort of shape is best?

Just wondering if I should be doing something to mine, I don't even really pluck (just stray ones).

How do you mean? To even out the colour?

pinkmagic1 · 01/04/2010 15:01

I always use an eyebrow pencil as my eyebrows are very pale, however I never go over the hairline, if you know what I mean!

MrsMorgan · 01/04/2010 15:03

I do, I use bobbi brown eye shadow and fill in with a little brush.

I never used to do it, but my brothers gf is a make-up artist for them and she did them once and i love them, they make mine look so much tidier. I feel dd without them filled in now.

pinkmagic1 · 01/04/2010 15:04

Also, it looks much more groomed if you keep them properly plucked or threaded.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2010 15:07

I always fill me eyebrows in - use eyebrow powder and fixative (eyebrow pencil is a no no as it makes me look like a 30s screen siren).

They fade with age, eyebrows. Mine have always been dark and thick despite being blonde (disclaimer: I do not look like Meg Matthews) but they started fading as soon as I hit 30.

I feel ungroomed if my eyebrows are unthreaded and undefined.

SheWillBeLoved · 01/04/2010 15:20

Oh god yes, I look bizarre if I don't. Over plucked way too much as a teenager, so now hardly anything grows where my arches should be. Have to fill in there, and then I fill the rest of my brows to give them a tidier look.

aquavit · 01/04/2010 15:41

GetOrf - I wish I looked like a 30s screen siren

I use a pencil because my brows are so thin (naturally) that it is the only thing fine enough

if I don't fill them in I look like a potato

CountessDracula · 01/04/2010 15:42

how does one fill an eyebrow?

And why?

traceybath · 01/04/2010 15:53

I had brilliant threading at Harvey Nichols blink bar recently. Bought the pencil she used to fill them in.

I use a pencil with a brush at the other end, so comb them into shape and just lightly pencil them to define them further especially at outer edges.

Takes seconds and well groomed eyebrows make a big difference to your face overall.

ZoneBakewell · 01/04/2010 15:55

ahh navy the make up tutorial (those fab girls go a littel OTT though I think)

tis cyb btw

Yes I fill mine in, they are sparse but still thick, ie not one line of hairs. I look like death until I do it

i use YBF pencil from QVC best best best

Blimey theres loads of acronyms in this post

DrivenToDistraction · 01/04/2010 16:09

Yeah, plucking / threading is definitely important but, mad as it sounds, trimming is vital to make them look really well groomed. Once they are shaped brush the hair down and trim away what falls over the inner line of your brow, them brush the hair up and trim away what falls over the upper line of the brow.

It's very scary the first time you do it but it makes an unbelievable difference.

I do fill in BTW, but you have to be careful not to use to use to dark a colour.

Eyebrow shaping diagram. The first line is where the brow should start, the second is were the high point of the arch should be and the third is were the brow should end.

DrivenToDistraction · 01/04/2010 16:10

...careful not to use too dark a colour...

ZoneBakewell · 01/04/2010 16:10

yes I trim. MAkes a mSSIVE difference. I see women in the street and I think 'ooh I wish I had a pair of nail scissors on me to give you a quick tidy up'

AnzoneioBanderas · 01/04/2010 16:11

yes always
the LANCOME pencil in blonde is good spec for brunettes so you dont look like a female member of human league

navyeyelasH · 01/04/2010 16:22

hmm I think mine are naturally ok, is that possible? In the tutorials I'm watching they seem to do it to shape and define the brow.

AnzoneioBanderas · 01/04/2010 16:23

when i onyl do one and look at face it looks SO much better

AnzoneioBanderas · 01/04/2010 16:24

i mean than the undone one
that i hten do

traceybath · 01/04/2010 16:26

Its a bit like foundation - just evens everything out and improves things overall.

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2010 16:27

Can do pencils. They give too hard a line.

I hate loathe and despise Benefit make up (it's for teenagers and people who know fark all about make up imho) but brow zing is pretty good, it comes with a fixative wax which stops the eyebrows from looking too matt (which is side effect of using powder as opposed to pencil.

Oh hark at my boring seminar on this subject.

I have never trimmed eyebrows, not being Denis Healy

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/04/2010 16:29

The Chanel powder is nice also, but a bit of a waste of time, as it has three shades of brown in and I only need one.

brimfull · 01/04/2010 16:29

I do , mine have gone a bit grey .

I use a laura mercier one in a pot and a brush but I am looking for a good pencil .

I had heard the shu emura one was good but have no idea where to get it. Will have a look at lancome and qvc now.

ZoneBakewell · 01/04/2010 16:29

you dont have to be dennis healy to trim. it makes a huge difference. if you cant do pencil you are pressing to hard

DrivenToDistraction · 01/04/2010 16:29

navyeyelasH - mmm. maybe. They may well be very good naturally. Mine are too, but a bit of grooming turns them into stunners.

Could you stick a photo on your profile? Just the brows would be fine if you don't want to out yourself.

brimfull · 01/04/2010 16:29

have never heard of trimming them
