Birkies with socks?

Ok or not? I crave the comfort but I am concerned that this is possibly a giant fashion faux-pas.

A million times No.

traceybath · 29/03/2010 19:58

Good lord - no.

You are joking aren't you?

llareggub · 29/03/2010 19:59

No,no, no!

wildstrawberryplace · 29/03/2010 20:01

I actually think it looks cool in a kind of scandinavian way as long you are wearing earthy fleck knit socks and not those individual toe socks in rainbow colours.

Rockbird · 29/03/2010 20:03

Are you insane???

wildstrawberryplace · 29/03/2010 20:03

rainbow toe socks

AnyFucker · 29/03/2010 20:04

absolutely not

birkies are comfy enough, without socks

if your feet are cold, wear boots

BariatricObama · 29/03/2010 20:04

if you are even considering this you are either

  1. beyond redemption
  2. achingly cool

so go ahead it doesn't matter

Wiggletastic · 29/03/2010 20:06

I have boots but they are just not comfy enough! I love my birkies but its just too damned chilly to wear them just now. Are you all really sure socks are not ok????

OP posts:
hellymelly · 29/03/2010 20:06

Oh I love birkies with socks. At the mo I am wearing swedish red leather clog sandals with red and cream scandinavian wool socks.

wildstrawberryplace · 29/03/2010 20:08

Fine if you live in the muesli belt. And it's all in the socks I'm telling you.

Rockbird · 29/03/2010 20:08

Well, I guess the replies have been a bit ambiguous. Er... NO

AnyFucker · 29/03/2010 20:13

what part of no do you not understand ?

My deepest, darkest secret is that I wear Birkies with wooly socks at home during the winter. Once I even ventured as far as the compost bin in the front garden. Can not for one second ever contemplate doing that in public.

mrsruffallo · 29/03/2010 20:19

I will g against the grain and say yes,
The most comfortable outfit I ever wore was birkies with thick walking socks, a long kaftan and a jumper.
I looked adorable
(I am serious, btw)

Wiggletastic · 29/03/2010 20:19

Where is this 'muesli belt' you speak of? I'm pretty sure its nowhere round here.

I think I will just go for it. Tis more likely I am 'beyond redemption' than 'achingly cool' but what the hell, I can live with it.

Off to research 'suitable' socks....

I wore my Birkies on the school run last week.

You're clearly a wimp.

bintofbohemia · 29/03/2010 20:22

I did once see a brilliant pair of knitted knee socks with birks and they looked fab. (I know it sounds crap but it really did look good.)

mamakoukla · 29/03/2010 20:23

Yes! Sod 'em I sometimes need comfort and why do I have to conform to everybody's opinion? In fact, Birkies+socks are the best thing to wear on your feet when flying as feet are not too restricted and are still warm enough but don't sweat. Hah!

hellymelly · 29/03/2010 20:23

I do not live in the muesli belt.I live in a cashmere sweater from Brora and land girl cords or a pre-war tea dress. And I say fight for your right to wear those socks! (do agree sockage is crucial though, must be wool and chunky, see prada!if miuccia says its ok,its ok.)

AnyFucker · 29/03/2010 20:23

mrsR

did you win ?

(the fancy dress contest, that is...)

Wiggletastic · 29/03/2010 20:25

Llaregub, you are a hardy soul for sure! Do you live in the 'muesli belt'? Is it warmer there?

Hellymelly, you are now officially my fashion icon...

mrsruffallo · 29/03/2010 20:31
