Ok or not? I crave the comfort but I am concerned that this is possibly a giant fashion faux-pas.

no, ta

tethersend · 29/03/2010 20:43

If I looked down and saw birkenstocks, I would have written you off long before I could ascertain sockage.

In for a penny, in for a pound I suppose.

mrsruffallo · 29/03/2010 20:43

Won't work with these though

AnyFucker · 29/03/2010 20:45

Socks and sandals are fine to wear together............................................................................................ .........if your name is Jesus !!

If your feet are cold then it's too cold for Birkenstocks or any other open toe shoe .

Shaz10 · 29/03/2010 21:03

They cover toes, so it works for me.

hates sandals and anything that has potential to reveal yellow toenails and big thick skin on heels

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2010 21:10

Wiggletastic's feet

Do you make all you own yogurt?

Do you refuse to own a car for environmental reasons?

Do you puchase most of your clothes from charity shops becuase you see no point in buying brand new clothes?

If you answer yest to all of the above, then go ahead.

But please don't accompany your children if they are over 8 years of age, for they will die of shame.

hellymelly · 29/03/2010 21:11

Gosh thanks lostinwales...(waves hello).I have been covered in sick for most of the weekend, and that is NOT a good look, even in socks and sandals.

Thread hijack!

AF, if you're still there, I can't work out how to find if I have a CAT from you.

Thank you though - I'm all over the place today.

specialsmasher · 29/03/2010 21:32

Now if you want really seriously comfy then go for CROCS and socks...

mejon · 29/03/2010 22:18

I wear mine with socks... but only in the house/garden until the weather warms up.

mrsruffallo · 29/03/2010 22:36

Crocs and socks ...yes!

brimfull · 29/03/2010 22:46

I have seen people wearing birkies with socks ..and dare I say it they looked ok.Some even had on special toe-post socks.

Mind you it was in a particularly bohemain/muesli type environment in Canada.

LynetteScavo · 29/03/2010 23:14

Now, I do crocs and socks indoors only.

I would like to live in a world where Birkies and socks are socially acceptable. I think it would be a nice place...everybody would smile a lot, and most people would keep chickens and grow their own veg. Children wuld build dens in the woods instead of playing on playstations, and nail bars simply wouldn't exist.

But we don't so take off your socks, and get a manicure/pedicure.

Fimbow · 29/03/2010 23:20

Why don't you get birkie clogs?

wastingaway · 29/03/2010 23:24

I am both beyond redemption and achingly cool.

BelleDameSansMerci · 29/03/2010 23:44

Just chipping in but isn't it the law that you can only wear socks and sandals if you are a weird techy type with a wispy beard, checked shirt and corduroys? Sorry if this point has already been made...

LaurieFairyCake · 29/03/2010 23:50

You can wear them if you are very slim/tall/Scandinavian looking, have a kooky hairstyle and team them with those harem pants from Toast and with a skinny vest.

You cannot wear them if you're fat like me as you'll look like a twat.

You also can't wear them if you channel bag-lady as they will contribute to general bag-ladyishness.

And if you have a tight old-lady purple rinse don't - as you'll then look bonkers.

Wiggletastic · 30/03/2010 07:47

Well, this is a lot more complicated than I first thought. I don't have a wispy beard and could never be described as 'techy' but neither am I the least bit scandinavian looking or possess any clothes from Toast.

I had pretty much decided last night to just go for it and had looked out my most 'suitable' flecked, rustic socks but it has bloomin well snowed!!! Roll on spring...
