Anyone interested in forming a "shop more wisely and less compulsively", "no more expensive mistakes" and "make the most of what you already own" thread?

There seems to have been a digression from the original intention of Penth's very worthy thread so, rather than cause anyone any offence or detract from what Penth and others were setting out to achieve, would anyone like to do a thread in a similar vein? Discussing potential purchases (advising each other for/ against in sensible fashion!!) and talking about how we're wearing existing pieces etc

Am off to Sunday lunch with friends but will check back in later.

Wearing purple Tam Tam dress, grey opaques, grey slouch suede boots, charcoal travelwrap for discreet bfing. Pretty exited about the sunshine so nearly cracked out the new OP sunnies but am saving for summer proper

have a good day all

LTEC - that is very similar in colour and shape to the top you linked to the other day (the not worn very much top iirc.

eshermummy · 25/01/2010 14:16

much better
could rock that with flats and attitude as daywear
I approve

traceybath · 25/01/2010 14:19

Like your second dress LTEC.

LetThemEatCake · 25/01/2010 14:31

knew I could count on my fellow animal print lovers

and what do you think of these sandals?

aarghhelp · 25/01/2010 14:35

I am trying not to buy anything else purple but I am thinking one or two teal/green/turquoise accessories might be good for spring!

My bloody MacBook is driving me mad! Tray again....

I didn't buy Toast dress either. Mainly because I decided that I joined this thread to stop stupid compulsive shopping for things I don't want or need. And a bit because the site crashed.

Some of my weekend purchases arrived.

Most going back - Gap cardigan too big, Gap stripey cashmere tshirt the kind of nothing item that'll be in my wardrobe for ages until I give it away never worn. I quite like the Princesse Tam Tam cashmere www.asos.com/Princesse-Tam-Tam/Princess-Tam-Tam-Wool-And-Cashmere-Longline-Pullover/Prod/pgeproduct. aspx?iid=793381&SearchQuery=princess%20tam%20tam&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=20&sort=-1&clr=SharkGrey top (mine is brown) but am not 100% sure. Am going to try it again later. How would you wear it?

The Gap grey pea coat is nice. Do you think it is a useful coat seeing as I wear a lot of black and grey and want something to throw on that smartens me up?

Right, Uniqlo stuff should arrive tomorrow. Off to make a stew.

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 15:07

MM - I too have had a very rubbish delivery from NAP and most is going back.

RE the Tam Tam jumper. I got that in the sale too and I have to admit it's not really that great (shape wise) compared to the dress. I kept it as I thought it was a good price but now when I wear it I feel a bit blah. Maybe you'll have more luck with it - but only keep it if you love it

Red VW anglomania - is lovely but I have to face facts that I will have zero chances to wear it (plus it makes my bottom look huge).

I also ordered a sort of tunic thing from Vanessa bruno which is very blah and nothing special (so that too is going straight back) - and when I tried it on with my lovely Antik B sandals I discovered they have a fault and when I called NAP to see if they can replace - they've sold out of my size. Gutted. I'm hoping they come back in stock.

LTEC - as I'm sure you can guess I LOVE those sandals. And am very because of my current sandaless state. Now if they did those in a 39 all would be well with the world. Also love the dress (number 2)

carciofi · 25/01/2010 15:17

Hana, buy the bag!

LTEC, I love the animal print dress and sandals. Tracey, I like the purple shoes.

I have 29 watchers on my bag I'm selling, now I just need someone to bid.

Eshermummy, hope your DD is ok.

My Ash order was cancelled due to a problem with the stock system, boo hoo.

monkeysmama · 25/01/2010 15:17

Thanks Helles. It's going back!

carciofi · 25/01/2010 15:19

P.S. Mimi, maybe watch items similar to what you want to sell on eBay and see what they go for. I usually set a reserve for bags/higher value items.

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 25/01/2010 15:39

Hi girls,

Haven't managed to post since my first one because ds got vomitting bug and was up all night, then the next night dd had it - ended up in a+e with her because it was really severe and she's only 8mo. Then on sat, when i was truly exhausted from 2 nights no sleep - i got it!

Needless to say i've not had a ver stylish weekend!

LTEC i love those sandles.I'm just about to order some black rats. What do you guys where yours with. I'm struggling to put together a winter to spring transition wardrobe.

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 15:41

oh burning . We had that (well the whole family except me) - horrid.

I shall watch suggestions for black rats with interest as I've got some on order too

almondfinger · 25/01/2010 15:54

Marking the page.
Couldn't join the other thread either as I've decided to buy quality this year over quantity, not nothing at all. Some Brora cashmere winging its way as we speak. Seriously short of tops.

Only made it to page 3 but keen to see if Riven has been taken shopping. You deserve to look and feel good Riven, you have it tougher then most day to day.

traceybath · 25/01/2010 16:08

Ok topshop denim mini skirt arrived and will be going back as barely covered my bottom!

So am on the look out for a denim mini thats more mid thigh than bottom skimming.

MM & Hells - so irritating when deliveries are disappointing.

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 16:18

that's both of us Tracey after the same thing. What height are you? I wonder if we'll get the same one I'm 5ft 8 (and a bit)

traceybath · 25/01/2010 16:22

I'm only 5ft so imagine how short it would be on a normal height person!!

God their eyes would be on stalks at school if I dropped DS off wearing it.

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 16:26

OMG - sounds like it would be very 'interesting' on me as well then! I"m sure the perfect skirt is out there somewhere

geordieminx · 25/01/2010 16:41

Tracey - they had a couple of nice ones in dorothy perkins - one reduced to £15?

LetThemEatCake · 25/01/2010 17:47

I've got a denim mini from Diesel and at 5'10" can vouch for its non-butt-skimming properties

one in your size on ebay tracey

quick update from me while the dcs eat their hastily prepared highly nutritious dinner ... bunny am glad you had a fun hen's night, happy Aus Day for tomorrow.

Outnet delivery - don't like the Vanessa Bruno tee, the texture is a bit funny .. so it's going back ... the K by Karl Lagerfeld tank is lovely however, as are the over-knee socks.

Bought the snakeskin dress but have to say that I think it will look really good on me . And which one of you bstards has started bidding on my Antik sandals?? I suspect dexter*...

feeling very pleased that the universe provided for me today and didn't let me do the Toast thing, as i know I would have felt crap about it tonight ...

hells more stock of those Antik sandals due, acc to the website.

can you believe Jan nearly over? I think we need to do a month's end look at what we've acquired ...

OP posts:
traceybath · 25/01/2010 18:07

Right back from school run and tried denim mini on again - actually now I've pushed it down to make it more hipster I think its ok.

Its actually a nice shape and nice denim so am going to keep it. Will be ideal for hot holiday when I get around to booking it.

God - I don't think I want to think about what I've bought this month - too much I'm afraid but took advantage of the sales.

Am seriously going to make my list tonight of spring/summer purchases and then stick to it. No more winter stuff.

LTEC that dress was lovely - but as you know I love a bit of animal skin and white jeans and metallics - god I am so channeling Liz Hurley!

dexter73 · 25/01/2010 18:28

Not me! I'm not a fan of sandals as I think my feet look weird in them. My toes are very long.
Love the snakeskin dress though!

blossoming · 25/01/2010 18:38

carciofi - do you have paige skinnies?

mrsjuan · 25/01/2010 19:13

Tracey - French Connection had some nice denim minis in the sale at the weekend. None on the website though and they were only in sizes 8 and 16 in the Trafford centre.

Oh -Just read back and seen that you're keeping the Topshop one anyway -never mind!

hellsbelles · 25/01/2010 19:25

not me LTEC - I'm a 6 and yes I saw that note on the NaP website so I'm hoping that I get some. They are lovely. So glad you bought that dress...it was gorgeous.

Tracey - glad the topshop one works. I'm guessing though it wouldn't for me as I'm taller and fatter.

Will look at French Connection (thank you mrsjuan) and Diesel (very sad that I'm not a size 8 as that ebay one is a bargain)
