What did you wear with your white stilettos in the 80s?

I know I lived in white stilettos for the best part of the decade but cant remember what I wore them with. I found a pair for £4 in Primark yesterday and snapped them up for a 1980s party, what is one to wear them with???

A very long tight jersey skirt, with some hideous shoulder padded long top, mullet hairdo and dangly earrings.

cocolepew · 29/12/2009 23:02

I never wore white stilettos. I was fashionable

shockers · 29/12/2009 23:02

I remember wearing jumpsuits... shorts in the summer and rolled up trouser legs in the winter. The trick was to co-ordinate yoyr belt and jewellry with your shoes! Also boxy patterened jackets with legging or ski pants. If going 'posh' taffeta backless or boned dresses.

brimfull · 29/12/2009 23:02

those awful skirts with gathered waist band - are they called drindle or something

or ankle length trousers in white or black

dungarees

shockers · 29/12/2009 23:02

patterned!

JaneiteQuiteRight · 29/12/2009 23:03

I only had black ones but I would say, with Cybil, long clingy hobble skirt - to be worn with huge black and white striped t-shirt and black backcombed hair.

brimfull · 29/12/2009 23:03

jumpsuits probably what I meant instead of dungarees

shockers · 29/12/2009 23:04

And a perm...

bunny3 · 29/12/2009 23:04

A long skirt? Wow, you had class, mine were very short and, IIRC worn with bare motled legs . With the long skirt did you wear tights or leg warmers?

White ski pants, longline shirt, with a HUGE belt over the top, and electric blue eyeshadow and mascara.

I thought I was it.

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 29/12/2009 23:05

jumpsuits, 3/4 length trousers

hatwoman · 29/12/2009 23:05

calf length tight white skirt, flowery top, belt, bangles, and rosary. not trying to emulate madonna at all

shockers · 29/12/2009 23:05

I was such a chav!

brimfull · 29/12/2009 23:05

like this yellow jumpsuit

CoqAuVin · 29/12/2009 23:05

ooh no
iw as moody in black

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/12/2009 23:06

DD has bought a pair of jeggings which are 80s bleachwash style with zips up the side, they look so 80s and remind me of good time girls in Jean Jeannie with BIG hair, bleachwash jeans, batwing jumpers and hideous plastic macs with their stilettos.

Was too young myself as was at junior school in the 80s.

hatwoman · 29/12/2009 23:06

oh yes jumpsuits. a pale yellow one with a black belt

bunny3 · 29/12/2009 23:06

Jumpsuits with rolled up legs - very Bonnie Tyler but will make my arse look huge. I need to adapt 80s fashion to fit a dumpy middle-aged body! 80s colours were black and white, electric blue and bright pink werent they? Cant recall any brown.

I spent most of the 80's in doc martins , long indian skirts and massive jumpers

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/12/2009 23:07

Think ankle bracelets were de rigeur as well.

hatwoman · 29/12/2009 23:07

no no they weren't jump suits. they were flying suits.

JaneiteQuiteRight · 29/12/2009 23:08

Skirts to the ankle or knicker length: nothing in between.

Long v v tight skirts (like that Japanese designer whose name I've forgotten) to be worn with bare legs and black stilettoes, or black opaques and black stilletto button boots, or Woolies PE pumps.

Short skirts (or belts) to be worn with opaque tights and PE pumps, or opaque tights and stiletto boots - not stiletto shoes as too tarty. Oh and black polo neck for added Beatnik.

cornsilkcremeeggspotter · 29/12/2009 23:08

I was white stilletto girl for about 6 months in he 80's. Prior to that I was 2nd hand shop alternative girl and looked a bit of a twat. After that I was studenty girl and looked similarly twatty.

Pluto · 29/12/2009 23:09

I wore mine with a peach and white striped shirt dress, with shoulder pads, white plastic dangley earrings and a mullet perm of course. I grew up in Chelmsford, the county town of the white stiletto.

bunny3 · 29/12/2009 23:09

ski pants, lol. Can you buy them anywehre now? They had that funny under-foot strap thing didnt they?

Snow-wash drainpipe jeans, they were horrible, a boyfriend wore them well into the 90s!

What can I wear to an 80s party (my dhs 50th)? I am 43, size 16, apple shaped. Everything will look crap wont it?
