Something glam yet warm and with sleeves?

We are going to my sisters for a posh Christmas do, and her house is freezing.

I don't want to spend the whole time in my cardi, so have been searching for a warm dress which is still glam/funky. I don't mind it being short, but I would like at least 3/4 sleeves.

I can't wear wool unless it's merino/cashmere (and even then it's a bit dodge).

I need to be able to eat lots in it too!

I'm asking too much......

I posted this earlier. It's probably not glam in the way you might be thinking but is probably warm and could dress it up?

thought I'd get the ball rolling anyhow

ChrisMissWooWoo · 11/12/2009 14:51

shimmery?

Poppity · 11/12/2009 14:52

I do like that a lot, but yes was hoping for less of a day dress I think.

It doesn't seem possible to be glam and warm, perhaps I'm just getting old, I always mutter at how chilly the barely dressed girls-in-town must be of an evening

Hmmm, don't like that one, not sure why.

OP posts:

still a bit boring?

I do think glam and warm is going to be tricky. Especially as you're not able to wear wool easily.

Maybe a glam top with an (unseen) warm extra layer underneath?

NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 15:02

It's not exactly what I was originally thinking of but how about something like this with a long sleeved top underneath (something warm like Uniqlo heat tech in a jewel colour)?

ChrisMissWooWoo · 11/12/2009 15:02

it's hard isn't it esp if you can't wear wool.

well that Reiss one is not what I would wear but thought I'd give you opposite ends of the spectrum

could you wear a (faux) fur stole type thing drapped around your shoulders ...I'm thinking 1930s cold country house glamour?

really though you need some of the more regulars on Style and Beauty .. they will help!

traceybath · 11/12/2009 15:06

Budget and what size are you please?

ChrisMissWooWoo · 11/12/2009 15:06

this is beautiful .. could wear thermal underneath!

Poppity · 11/12/2009 15:09

I could do a pinafore style dress with a polo underneath couldn't I? Or a super glam cardi/stole (although not an annoying balancey one- must have sleeves)

I have bookmarked the Uniqlo site norks, have to do the school run now- I'll be back!

I'd tink about putting a tuxuedo or velvet jacket on top of a dress or with glam jeans/trousers.

Also wear shoe boots to keep feet warm.

Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:09

I need to know more about the heat tech polo tops, has anyone had one? They do leggings too, think I might be making some purchases from there.

I know I'm going to sound super fussy now, but I hate it when a polo neck tries to strangle you.....

I might start a new thread on it.

Love love love the Karen Millen dress ChrisMiss, not sure I can justify the price- think I might head off the the vintage ebay section with that for inspiration

I prefer the idea of a dress with something under to wearing a jacket/shrug (although as ever can always be persuaded otherwise with the right item)

I have heat tech polo necks. They are quite fitted, but not throttling as the fabric is quite thin (yet warm... I don't know how they do it but it's true). I also have the scoop neck top and that would look good under dresses too I think.

Don't have the leggings.

NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 16:16

Any good??

NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 16:22

Too plain?

Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:23

Thanks Norks, that's good to know, I like that dress too.

I'm going to send for a couple of tops and a pair of leggings, what are they like size wise? I am a 10/12, and 5'10,and am also challenged by norks in the sense that it's a challenge to find them

OP posts:
Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:24

the Moon dress that is

NorkilyChallenged · 11/12/2009 16:27

Colour wouldn't suit me but is quite nice and good shape I think could wear scoop neck long sleeve top under I think

Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:28

bugger, they only have XS, S or XL left in the plain polo. Might be ok in the small if they re generous?

I think I got small and am a 10/12 5'6. I can't remember, I will check upstairs when I can get out of the room from the kids! They fit me well, so will check what size I got...

yes, small. Am quite broad shouldered but v v flat chested and they fit me perfectly.

Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:31

I like that too, but have red hair, might be a bit

Poppity · 11/12/2009 16:33

Oh, good! Identical challenge to me then!
